Envy 6,159 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 (edited) Well, gee, My Little Pony is made for girls. It is made specifically, in Faust's words, to show girls that there are many different ways to be a girl and none of them are wrong. In other forms of media, particularly anime, I find that I do not even like the female characters in them. They're always fit into a few narrow archetypes, and are almost always mere fanservice. That goes for both heroes and villains. The directors of MLP:FiM know how to make good female characters, and I'm happy for that. And I'm happy that they have tons of female characters to work with to show us that. Again, you have to remember that this is a show for girls. There's nothing wrong with guys liking it, but seriously. Let us have a show where our gender can be something more than fanservice or some other overused cliche to satisfy the male mind. Guile 18 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 There are few male ponies in Ponyville, and the ones that are around seem to be there to do manual labor. I'm not saying this show is feminist or anything, but it's kind of funny to me.

I'm inclined to believe that FIM has done more than its share of satisfying the male mind. It's truly impeccable to know because the Mane 6 each seem to have the traits you would want to look for in your future partner... or unless I'm being superficial, but nonetheless it ties into them great role models. Jokuc 8,173 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 I dont really care how many mares there are. As long as the show is good and there is atleast some stallions
Cadence Sparkle 102 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 ACTUALLY, if Cadence and Shining armor have kids, there is a possibility that 1 may be a male alicorn Sunshine, Sunshine ladybugs awake, clap your hooves and do a little shake! - Princess Cadence and Twilight Sparkle
I used to be a stranger 7,993 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 Interestingly, Friendship Is Magic failed the Inverse Bechdel Test until it's 41st episode (S2E15 The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000). The Bechdel Test: 1. Movie or show has to have at least two [named] female characters in it 2. Who talk to each other at least once 3. About something other than a male character Inverse Bechdel: 1. Movie or show has to have at least two [named] male characters in it 2. Who talk to each other at least once 3. About something other than a female character Flim and Flam are the first named male ponies on the show who don't talk about female ponies or otherwise directly female subject matter. The only other argument would be S1E21 Over A Barrel where Sheriff Silverstar and Chief Thunderhooves talk about pie and territory (however Thunderhooves is not a pony, he is a buffalo.) notdog1996 315 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 Well, the lack of Pegasi annoys me much more than the lack of male characters. We had quite a few new male characters this season (Iron Will, Discord and Pound Cake to name a few). If they just put some in episodes like they did this season, I have no problem with it. Lolness The Hunt 39 July 17, 2012 Share July 17, 2012 I honestly don't care about the lack of male ponies. I actually kind of prefer it, to be honest. I don't really like the design of the male ponies except the ones like Shining Armor. Yorick walks into a bar. There is no counter.
Dundermiffly 27 July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 The show was primarily aimed towards girls. Girls relate to girls. It makes sense that the show primarily focuses on female characters. There are plenty of male background ponies, we just don't really hear from them.
TheHouseholdWarrior 12 July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 (edited) Colts cols colts! We like colts in car(riage)s... Colts cols colts! Buy us drinks in bars... Colts Colts Colts! With manespray and denim... Colts Colts Colts. We love them, we love them! All singing aside, there's really not much to it. Who cares if there aren't many prominent stallions? It's not like there's really any problem to it, is there? As long as they're not involved with the plot (heh), there's no reason for them to really be there. I guess that's what Hasbro's thinking too. TV. TV never changes. Coolius rpi 117 July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 Yeah, I dont really see the problem either. Men and Women are pretty much the same, except for the whole private parts thing...
