gaming Guild Wars 2 Thread

Welp, there goes all the interest I had in GW2 pvp lol

Lets start with a guild name and go from there lol.

Sure there's GvG and small team PvP. I think the real interest I have in the PvP is World vs. World. It just depends on what server you join, and the battles can get insanely huge. The Yogscast and Total Biscuit have done quite a bit of coverage on just about every aspect of the game.

When you log-in, you get to choose which guild you want to represent. All the guilds you join are linked to your account, and any character can represent them.

Have you participated in these "large" battles? I can almost guarantee you that a month in and they won't be so large anymore.

Plus, I like competitive PvP. SvS isn't competitive. It's preference I guess.

I never got into the Beta, so no I can't say I have. I just upgraded my computer so it would be able to actually handle the game. There's still structured PvP and pick up and play PvP. What you've said could very well be true, but there's always something to do if you don't feel like just PvE.

Hey Bohtty here is an explanation of the two different genres of pvp that guild wars 2 will have in it.

Doesn't really tell me if the game will be competitive or not with regard to pvp. There are a lot of things that factor in not to mention balanced gameplay, etc.

It says there will be tournament style pvp, which most definitely is competitive, unless the meaning of the word tournament has changed since the last time I looked it up in the dictionary.

Just because it says tournament doesn't mean its competitive. Often times tournaments hosted by the developers of the game are shit simply because everybody and their mother knows about it and it gets too big.

If you can't organize a GvG or 1v1 battle then it definitely has no chance of being competitive.

Besides, god knows what they mean by tournament style pvp. It really doesn't tell you much.

Okay well then read this, it explains more about the competitive side of the pvp and even explains in more detail what Sever v Server v Server pvp is supposed to be like.

Still doesn't tell me anything except that they want it to be e-sport compatible, but I've seen some moronic developers in the past. If the players can't organize their own matches completely then it has very little chance.

ArenaNet definitely isn't a moronic developer. If something is unbalanced, they'll balance it. Nothing ever stayed overpowered for long during the entirety of the original Guild Wars.

I actually like the new combat system a lot more. It feels more involved than me standing absolutely still and spamming shadow bolt and fear, but I guess that's just me. If you're interested in some more details about how the game works, may I point you to the wiki: http://wiki.guildwar...d_Questions#PvE

It is surprisingly detailed and it sure helped me when I was trying to figure out how things worked.

So I was brainstorming some ideas for a guild name and I would like to toss them around see if they stick.

Since we are going to make this guild a mlpforums exclusive, how about "The Feldian Deciples" or "The Feldian Warriors"?

I'm not one to worship Feld0. Hes not a god, just a mature, awesome web developer.

We should probably do something related to the show just incase we want to expand outside of MLPforums later down the road. I'll try to think of something during class today. They key, from what I've seen, is simple and witty.

Better you come up with a name than me. The last guild I was part of was called noobs united with a bunch of my friends :P

I got it, if it is not taken I say we use "The Cutie Mark Crusaders". Anyone? I think it is the most badass name for a group in the show. If not how about "The Wielders of Harmony"?

The Cutie Mark Crusaders isn't bad. I'll trying to think of some one word names since they roll off the tongue better usually.

I would rather not have a one word name for the guild. One word guilds are always bland, you need adjectives to describe the noun and that requires more words than one.

There is only a few reasons to buy over WoW.

First would be that it's no monthly fee.

Other wold be the graphics. Even tho the graphics are pretty outdated for a new game.

If i ever start with an MMORPG i will be WoW xP

Nah, usually multiple word guild names are hard to remember. Best clan in Combat Arms: Vertu. Best clan in Soldier Front:Tuga. Best guilds on Bellocan Maplestory: Vanity, Mutiny. There is a sign!

I kinda doubt you can make a pony related guild name with only one word, and if it is too far away from being pony related then it won't work.

This video might answer a few of your questions about the PvP.

GW2 has no monthly fee and the graphics are very nice of a MMO. I honestly believe GW2 will be the next biggest MMO and will be popular for a good while.

One word guild names are much easier to remember and can be quite catchy. I honestly would rather have a one word guild name than a multiple word one.

Sweet it looks like WoW. lol

Didn't really answer any of my questions, but the gameplay looks like it has a high potential for imbalance.

I was thinking something like Guardians of Equestria, shortened to GoE, or something to that effect. In terms of a shorter name, maybe just Everfree? As far as imbalance goes, during the entirety of the original Guild Wars, there were hardly any balance issues. People will always complain about their class being underpowered, or another class being overpowered. That's just the way the world works.

It might have potential for imbalances but since we no longer have the "holy trinity", every class has the ability to play what they like, i think that's good balance because it brings more team builds to the table, which may counter said imbalanced team build etc. And since every player has the ability to choose their "role", it will allow more people to play together, something i prefer over the very limited "viable" WoW arena teams, where classes are divided into healer/damage/tank . If your team choose to go for a full melee, no survival etc, it's your fault, not the game's balance. People just need to adapt their play style more because you no longer have set roles, every class can soak damage, heal, avoid, do damage, in one way or another.

Remember the game is not even released yet, I can assure you that it will be more balanced over time. WoW or any MMO started the same way, yet imbalances exist at this date, it's unavoidable with the amount of class, stats, traits combinations most MMOs have.

(One thing that i forgot to add to Gw2, in PvP every player has the same gear, no longer do gear decide the outcome of the fight. Racial skills are also disabled.)

My interest for Gw2 sparked for one reason, they broke the traditional MMO style, which i'm very grateful for, it should be promoted, maybe future MMOs will learn and do it even better next time. I welcome innovation, we have stayed too long in the same generation of MMOs. It's time to move on, like other games do.

For those who want to play with me, i'll name my character "Jonke", feel free to add me. =)

I've seen a lot of people get excited for Guild Wars 2. My question is: What *new* concepts are they bringing to the table and why should I play it over WoW?

Thanks.

They won't spoonfeed everything to you on a silver-platter, ruining any fun and challenge in a game.
