I've never really been intimidated by them...But I tend to respect higher ranks more than lower ranks, because it proves that they've been here longer and know more about the forums than me.

Nope! It just shows their experience and activity in this community, and lets you know who is a bit newer around here.

It shouldn't intimidate anyone really, we are all friendly folk! ...right?!

Nope. I honestly don't care. So long as I like the person, it doesn't matter to me if they're a mod or a Blank Flank *shrugs*

If anything the length of posts and some of the intellectual acumen of some of the posters can scare me, if in a positive way. I know that I'm new and that someday I'll have as many posts as they.

Well...no. I'm more intimidated by their personality. Like if someone is known for using sharp words that can cut like a knife...I try my best and avoid those people.

I feel that it is good we don't have post number, but high badges can mean two things so I don't give auto respect. Either they are a faithful poster or a spammer. The quantity of posts says nothing about quality. Even so I feel that high badges can be intimidating, it means they probably have more people supporting them. By extension it means if you disagree with them people are less likely to side with the lower badge people, at least in theory, so weather it is true or not it can be intimidating.

I dunno about you, but in my book people tend to side with the person that makes more sense, or follows their opinion :P

This is true, but I didn't say people really do side with people with higher post, that is my theory on the mentality. We people often presume untrue things... I'm actually in a therapy and that is a big thing they teach against.

I sure hope not. I don't even bother looking at badges. They don't really mean much to me and I haven't memorized their order. :P

I don't really care one way or the other personally, a long as they post within the rules and are respectful. But I have already seen another member that REAL proud of their badge status. In fact, they tried to call another member out because that other member has a high post count due to RP posts. I mean, who really cares where someone gets their post count?

It's not a race, grow up.

I have the highest post count, and I honestly couldn't give a shit.

I mean, I brag in some areas, but it is only as a joke.

Not once have I ever saw it as a way to argue with people xD

I can see it as being less of a deal here but in some forums it encourages an elite-st attitude, which in turn means that a lot of the people get aggressive about post count be it directly or indirectly. I can't find where it was but there was a post somewhere saying that people wanting to keep their forum status as respected or gain that status may become aggressive. You don't seem to fit that, but I can say for certain I've met people like that.

Considering I have no bad experiences with any higher ranking ponies on this forum, no. In fact, they seem to be extremely nice.

I never was and never will be intimidated by the higher ranking ponies on this forum.

I used to. Mods were just mods, those really scary people that no one likes, but I have learned that these are really nice people here. And I was stuck with the idea that those with the high badges were really well known and cool...and they still fit that description! Cool and laid back! Nice people all around!

Lol, yeah, I'm not really scared of Mods... Except Arylett Dawnsborough...

Only because she's the first mod I ever saw, lol, and since then I realized Devin McCourty's a mod, and I remember him, and we friended eachother back before he was a mod, so now I really see how mods are just regular forumites but they help run the forums and keep the peace ;)

I am not the least bit intimidated by the badges. Sure, a Feld0 post may warrant a second glance out of respect to the fact that is HIS forum after all.

I do think that there are some members that DO believe that they are superior because of their badge, which only proves that they have far more time to be on the internet, not that they are anymore knowledgable or insightful than they rest of us.

Yeah... Being more knowledgable about everything is my job :P lol.

I make very complicated, intellectual, and physically accurate posts to prove it! XD loljk.

Well, mostly...

I just like to think of myself as helpful in some way.

But I'm sure that anyone who's as interested in it as I am would be equally adept.

When I joined, we didn't have badges!

No, not really. I mean, when I do see the mod's badges, I do think that they are more powerful because they hold that badge, but I've never been intimidated by them. After all, they are normal people.

Lol, yes, I remember those days, and I remember the thread where it was announced that the badge system was being added...

And I thought to myself: "There's no way I'm gonna memorize all this! :o "

And to this day, I have a vague idea because I remember I was a number of other things in the past, so I know what's below me and above me, but I don't know the specific order...

Only parasprites intimidate me... the little devils... Never know what's going through their heads and I don't trust em

I suggest flamethrowers. Make sure you have a good thermal suit, but flamethrowers are most effective against insects.

And most enjoyable for us pyromaniacs :D

Whoooo, OH MY GAWD IT'S A GLOBAL MOD ROYAL GUARD BADGE SCARY SCARY SHE BAN ME

:)

Okay, I'm done fooling around. When I first joined, I was a tiny bit intimidated of the big wigs. But not really so much. The only people who scared me were Zoop (and he LOOKS scary in real life too, dammit! One look at his picture, you think he's going to punch you in the face!) and Feld0 since they were the modly peoples when I joined. Never saw much of that Kurtiss guy. Feld0 still scares me a little. ^^; Though Zoop? Yeah, he scares me too. But only when he sings. Man, that stuff is horrible!

Otherwise, I'm not really intimidated by people with higher post count badges. Maybe a tiny bit jealous because they have less of a life than I do, and that's really something I love to prove that I don't have. Though not intimidated. But that's because I AM A MOD AND I HAVE THE POWER BOW DOWN TO ME.

...All right no, really. Being scared of me is like being scared of a little puppy. I'm just a super tiny 5'2" girl behind a computer screen with a fancy Nicomade badge under my cute pony avatar. Why would that frighten you? I guess psychology, people are frightened by status.

Lol, I was hoping you'd post here so I could quote you so I wouldn't be talking behind your back when I say you're the one mod that intimidates me, lol. No particular reason, other than I thought your avatar was cute, but all the red makes me think of fire, and you're the first mod I noticed was a mod, and that intimidated me.

And yes, all three of those things are intimidation factors. Cuteness can be intimidating :P

But after reading your post here and thinking about Devin I'm feeling better about it, lol.

Oh, and I guess I got some memories mixed up and thought this was your OC, lol: http://peachpalette....set=72#/d4sgayn

The thought of you killing me from that picture wasn't helping, lol.

I guess PeachPallate has an imaginary (I would hope) violent side. Doesn't seem the type

It does, doesn't it? Human psychology I guess. For me personally, mods and admins scare the HAY out of me. I guess it's because I'm afraid of getting banned and being sent TO THE MOOOON!!! You see I like everything to be just right. I don't like to get bad grades or get a bad reputation. So when it comes to mods and admins, this is what I think:

Mod and admins= BAN! I HAVE to act perfect

BAN!= I'm not good enough to be on this site. :(

Having to act perfect= I don't get banned at all! Yay!

You see what goes on my mind now. but no matter how much I try to get rid of this nasty habit, my fear usually takes over. Stupid flaw of mine..

We all have our fears. It's how we deal with those fears that is important. I have a fear of failure, but I use that fear to be better and succeed.

I kinda found this combination to be hilarious...

PegasisterTaco is talking about being worried about the consequences of not doing something right on an online MLP forum, and getting punished, and the person replying is from the military. Lol.

"A man who fears nothing values nothing either."

Original quote from yours truly, a conclusion I came to during some previous thinking. For example, if a person feared death, then we can say that the person values life.

Woah. Amazing quote there!

Hmm. Makes me think of "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight". A supposed theme there was that Sir Gawain didn't fear death, but rather loved life, and because of that didn't want to die.

Nah, but they make people with higher rankings seem more.. sophisticated or something. (?)

Mods can be intimidating, but that's because they're mods...

Sophisticated?

I say

Cuteness... intimidating?

How strange.

Also, BOO! HERE I AM FEAR ME!

I never thought I intimidated anyone specifically. That's kind of nuts... I can see how red would be an intimidating color, but cuteness? Well, apparently everyone says I'm cutest mod, so I guess I'm MEGA scary to you.

My avatar has never been as scary as Peach's! It's just all happy-happy, 'cause Artsy is least intimidating pony next to Fluttershy.

I've never felt so creepy in my life. It's like when you go through someone's facebook page and you feel like you're stalking them, and then you realize, hey, people post this because they want you to look at it

Yeah, I'm a big fan of deviantart :D

ADDED:

Anyways, to get this thread going again because few things feel as bad as being a thread-killer...

I don't see much to be intimidated by in these badges (OHMYGAWD, bunnies, Parasprites and Unicorns! Lock your doors!). I think they're a pretty decent way to display how active you are around the forums, minus forum games and the like. Plus, if you're goal-oriented, a shiny new badge gives you something to aspire to, and by extension, a reason to join in on more topics and discussions. When you think about it that way, the badges are just another way some of us might become a little more social around here.

I have to heavily agree here. Not to mention the system is like, near impossible to really know the order correctly.

And I love the cupcake. For some reason those Sapphires look really delicious. Probably because I'm imagining they're sugar crystals and not actual sapphires :P

But anyways, who could be scared of a bunny? Or Squirrel?

Though Unicorns actually make me think of a regal, powerful, magestic, magical creature, so that is actually a wee bit intimidating, lol, but I won't consider someone's post any differently just because of a badge.

Though it is kind of a neat novelty to see someone who's a super-high rank and be like: "heh, that guy is famous around here", but once again, doesn't change how I treat the content of the post at all.

Being an experienced idiot doesn't make you less of an idiot, and being an inexperienced nice pony doesn't make you any less of a nice pony :D

  • 2 years later...

I would say I was and still kind of am, only because power can be corrupted and I've been wrongfully accused before. Also, I like to think of them as members just like us even though they do have to maintain order, just like police and other authorities. I'm just afraid of getting in trouble for nothing, which is why I like to think before I post, but I'm not perfect haha. Having power can turn anyone into a genuine or ingenuine person.

For me it was the opposite. I see badges as a goal. I see people who have become successful in a place that I wish to become a part of, and thus see the badges as something I want to have for myself. I respect people who have managed to obtain higher rankings, but I hardly feel as though it makes them a more superior person. And I'd wish the same from people below whatever rank I have at that point in time.
