Quoted from wikipedia,

Portal is a 2007 single-player first-person puzzle-platform video game developed by Valve Corporation. The game was released in a bundle package called The Orange Box for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 on October 9, 2007,[3][4] and for the PlayStation 3 on December 11, 2007.[7]The Windows version of the game is available for download separately through Valve's content delivery system Steam[2] and was released as a standalone retail product on April 9, 2008.[9] A standalone version called Portal: Still Alive was released on the Xbox Live Arcade service on October 22, 2008; this version includes an additional 14 puzzles. A Mac OS X version was released as part of the Mac-compatible Steam platform on May 12, 2010.[11]

The game primarily comprises a series of puzzles that must be solved by teleporting the player's character and simple objects using "the handheld portal device", a device that can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes. The player-character, Chell, is challenged by an artificial intelligence named GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) to complete each puzzle in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center using the portal gun with the promise of receiving cake when all the puzzles are completed. The game's unique physics allows momentum to be retained through portals, requiring creative use of portals to maneuver through the test chambers. This gameplay element is based on a similar concept from the game Narbacular Drop; many of the team members from the DigiPen Institute of Technology who worked on Narbacular Dropwere hired by Valve for the creation of Portal.

Portal was acclaimed as one of the most original games of 2007, despite being considered short in length. The game received praise for its unique gameplay and darkly humorous story. It received acclaim for the character of GLaDOS, voiced by Ellen McLain in the English-language version, and the end credits song "Still Alive" written by Jonathan Coulton for the game. Not counting sales through Steam, over four million copies of the game have been sold since its release. The game's popularity has led to official merchandise from Valve including plush Companion Cubes, as well as fan recreations of the cake and portal gun. A sequel, Portal 2, was released in 2011, adding several new gameplay mechanics and a cooperative multiplayer mode.[12]

So yeah. If you haven't played it yet, I HIGHLY reccomend it. Discuss here.

.....what?

Usually a discussion begins with the first topic and all you really did was supply a wiki page. All though wiki pages can be good for tidbits of info, you should never rely on them since the public could change them as they see fit, though that's beside the point on this topic you posted.

Yeah, I really like the game itself and own both the original and the sequel Portal Two on BOTH the PS3 and the PC. If you had made mentioning to some of the mods you liked, some custom maps you were impressed by, what you liked and disliked, then yeah I can see how a discussion could be furthered by members and people whom also enjoy the game; supplying a copy/pasta info from another site doesn't really give us much to discuss other than the usual dribble of "I sure do like this game!"

I mean there's Cave Johnson, the weird gel that was used, the multi-verse, or even fan works of the game. Supplying something akin to this video here makes more sense.

Meh, I preferred Portal 2 a LOT more than Portal 1. Portal 2 was made better; had extra characters; a better storyline and had great co-op. Don't get me wrong, I liked Portal 1, but I liked Portal 2 more. I honestly played 2 before 1 so I was a little disappointed that Portal 1 wasn't as good as 2. Of course, 1 was supposedly a beta-type game, with Portal 2 being the actual game. :3 It's still my favorite game series though; with Wheatley, GlaDOS, Chell, Atlas and the turrets being my favorite characters. <3

I wasn't sure what to think about the Portal games until I finally caved and bought the first Portal out of sheer boredom. Needless to say, I wasn't anywhere near bored for quite some time later. Portal was just about everything good about puzzle and physics games, bundled up with everything good about writing. GLaDOS quickly became one of my favorite video game villains ever, and I made it my mission to buy Portal 2. GLaDOS remained my favorite character in the series, but Wheatley and Cave Johnson gave her constant competition. As if the game's endless funny dialogue and dark humor weren't entertaining enough, I'm still finding easter eggs and hidden things throughout the single player and co-op levels.

I've got an idea! No..... No, wait; it's just a concussion....

If you want some quotes, then here you go.

Here are some of my favorite Wheatley quotes:

"Most test subjects do experience some, uh, cognitive deterioration after a few months in suspension. Now, you've been under for quite a lot longer, and it's *not* out of the question that you might have a *very* minor case of serious brain damage! But don't be alarmed, all right? Uh, although if you do feel alarmed, try to hold on to that feeling because that is the proper reaction to being told that you've got brain damage."

"Ooh. It's dark down here, isn't it? They say that the old caretaker of this place went absolutely crazy. Chopped up his entire staff - of robots - all of them robots! They say at night you can still hear the screams - of their replicas. All of them functionally indistinguishable from the originals... No memory of the incident... Nobody knows what they're screaming about. Ab-solutely terrifying. Though obviously not paranormal in any meaningful way."

And then we have GLaDOS:

"Well done. Here are the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: "A horrible person." We weren't even testing for that. Don't let that horrible-person thing discourage you. It's just a data point. If it makes you feel any better, science has now validated your birth mother's decision to abandon you on a doorstep."

"I hope you brought something stronger than a portal gun this time. Otherwise, I'm afraid you're about to become the immediate past president of the Being Alive Club. Ha, ha."

And lets not forget Mr Johnson

"All right, I've been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade!

Make life take the lemons back! Get Mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man whose gonna burn your house down - with the lemons!I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that'll burn your house down!"

" Just a heads up: we're gonna have a superconductor turned up full blast and pointed at you for the duration of this next test. I'll be honest - we're throwing science at the wall here to see what sticks. No idea what it'll do. Probably nothing. Best-case scenario, you might get some superpowers. Worst case, some tumors, which we'll cut out."

And let us not forget... the wonderful space core!

"Dad! I'm in space![low-pitched space voice]I'm proud of you, son.[normal voice]Dad, are you space?[low-pitched space voice]Yes, now we are a family again."

"So much space. Need to see it all.

Wheatley: I wish I could take it all back. I honestly do. I honestly do wish I could take it all back. And not just 'cause I'm stranded in space.Space Core: I'm in space. Wheatley: I know you are, mate! Yep, we're both in space.Space Core: SPAAAAACE! Wheatley: Anyway, you know, if I was ever to see her again, do you know what I'd say?Space Core: I'm in space. Wheatley: I'd say, "I'm sorry." Sincerely. I am sorry - I was bossy... and monstrous... And, I am genuinely sorry. SpaceCore: I'm in space. Wheatley: The end.

And yet this is just a small portion of the amount amazing quotes from portal 2. I LOVE it! wub.png

I like Portal 2 a whole lot, but I was thinking, maybe we can try and make a My Little Portal story mod from the series. :)

Anyway, Portal 2 has a lot of replay material, like custom test chambers from the workshop, etc.

I love Cave Johnson's lines, they're amazing. I've heard his voice before but I'm not sure where, anybody have any idea where?

Also, anybody ever play the fan-made prequel? I don't remember the name, but it looked pretty good, and supposedly had real people behind the windows instead of an AI. It was a bit too tough for me to get the timing down on a couple levels though. Although, I guess you could call Portal 2 a prequel and a sequel, with the underground levels showing how Aperture was formed and how the testing was and all that. I found the second game far more interesting than the first, and still find myself replaying it at times.

I really love portal, its a great game series, The first game was a bit short, but was still entertaining both for having some difficulty to it, and because I just kinda like GLaDOS humor.

Portal 2 I think was even better personally, It was much longer, but the story was also much deeper, and it still had that touch of humor I liked thrown in, along with GLaDOS returning and stuff. And the puzzles where also alot harder.. Which is good for a puzzle game, even if it was pretty frustrating sometimes.

Overall though Portal is probaly one of my favorite Game series I can think of right now. And definitely my favorite Puzzle game I think.
