Bari 7,023 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 Fine, you win. I'll just stick to my boring existence as a human. But, I have to disagree about the whole earth pony thing. I'd love to be an earth pony. I'm afraid of heights, and magic isn't the best thing in the world. Having to use my mouth would be difficult, but I'd get used to it. I'd get used to it all! I still wanna be a pony, just so I could see life through new eyes.
Tycoon 79 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 You said that the bad parts of our world greatly outweigh the bad parts of Equestria. The problem is, like I said, a matter of world-view. We only ever see the times that Equestria is happy and content, or the times that they are saved in the end. You think nopony died in the changeling invasion? You think that there were things the Mysterious Mare Do Well couldn't stop? The fact is that there always problems, in any world, and just because we can't see them, doesn't mean that they aren't there. Yeah, I know. I never said those things weren't true. However, I was going based on what we have seen in the series. We didn't see times when Equestria wasn't happy and content, we only saw times when it was happy. I didn't say those bad times in Equestria didn't exist. I just said that I've personally seen or heard of a lot more worst things in this world than I have seen in Equestria. InfinityWhale 771 July 25, 2012 Author Share July 25, 2012 I still wanna be a pony, just so I could see life through new eyes. Why do you have to be a pony to see life through new eyes? That's why I made this. So you could stop thinking that for life to get better, you have to stop being human. Life is wonderful, and amazing, and even magical! You just have to see it for what it is. Than that's not happiness, that's ignorance. You could just as easily ignore all the bad parts in this world as you could all the negativity that's there in Equestria. It's just a matter of choice, and worldview. Tom The Diamond 1,830 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 I still love the show. It's a great show, and has lead me to some great friends and really cool people. But it's just stupid to say that you'd rather live in another world, when they have just the same amount of problems we do. After all, we're not ponies. We're human beings, and that's all right. I dunno, while there are definitely cons to living in a world of ponies, it seems a bit harsh to say that anyone who would prefer to be in another world is stupid. I mean just because someone prefers something that they don't have doesn't mean that they're in the wrong. One of your articles biggest flaws IMO is that it assumes that everyone who wants to go to Equestria is absolutely depressed with this one. Which isn't true. I would love to go to Equestria, heck, maybe even permanently, but that doesn't mean I am horrifically depressed and hate this world. I just prefer Equestria to Earth. To me, it has more things in it that suit my interests better then this world, like magic, dragons, and Trixie. Ultimately, every universe has its pro and cons, and while a lot of people never truly consider the cons and look only at the pros of other worlds and the cons of their own, it does seem a bit mean to think wishing to be somewhere else is stupid. Which it isn't, wanting to be in another world is kinda understandable, but what we have to accept is that unless some super scientific device is made, we're gonna be stuck in this one, so might as well make the most of it!

In the true spirit of a Cracked article, I was examining it using a whole lot of logic, without tempering it with wisdom. Yeah, its possible that you could prefer the struggles of Equestria, I was just tired of everyone saying that Equestria was much better than Earth. If you could get past the difficulties of adjusting, then you might just be happier, but not necessarily happier than on Earth. Mostly, the point that I'm trying to make is to stop assuming that everything should be perfect, and start being happy with life as it is. While it would be cool have magic, it kind of pails in comparison to what we can do with technology. Dragons are almost Always Chaotic Evil beats who will eat you if you bother them too long, and Trixie is.... alright, lets not start that one. 1 Frayed Logic | Wits End | Light Eye
Carolina 212 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 Are ponies vegitarian? I would assume so, given that real life horses are herbavore. If that is the case, just not being able to eat meat alone is a good reason to not want to be a pony! And also, I like being a human. Humans ftw! I'd actually say people are my favorite animals :lbf. Silverhoof 2,844 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 (edited) OK lets look at this. 5. You could be an earth pony. Of course, somebody's going to jump up and say that it would be fine to be an earth pony. After all, they live in a magical world, just the same as the rest of them. They get friends and they can seek out magic, and they are faster and stronger, with a deep connection to the ground. And it's true: earth ponies have great lives, and are allowed to enjoy all these things. But they've lived with this all their lives. I mean, do you thing there was never a point where Applejack looked up at Rainbow Dash and said "Man, I wish I could fly?" (Add kitschy Southern accent to taste.) But they realized it wasn't for them, and got over it. As far as we can tell, that is, because they never mention it in the show. It's entirely possible every single day Pinkie Pie wishes she could do magic, just hides it to avoid conflict. But, for a newcomer into Equestria, it would be nigh impossible to adapt. Every day, toddling along the ground looking up at a pegasi pony who can zoom across the sky at speeds faster than sound? Having to take out the trash with your mouth while a unicorn can levitate it easily? WITH YOUR MOUTH? Eww.... gross. Just think of all the things you pick up on a daily basis, and how many of them you don't want anywhere near your mouth. Of course, you could argue that you wouldn't be an Earth pony for any number of reasons, but in the end, it pales in comparison to the fact that you could have to pick up things with your mouth. In the show earth ponies pick up items and use them just ny touching them with a hoof. This is the inate magic available to all ponies. It is a zero range telekinesis that allows for manipulation of the environment. Earth ponies have this because the environment itself is highly magical, they absorbed it just by living in Equestria for 1000's of years. This is what allowed ponies to leave the grasslands and become farmers. Ponyville was built by earth ponies using tools with their hooves. 4. Ponyville is the only happy place. The psychology of Ponies as demonstrated in the show is very American. city dwellers would find the cities just like cities here.In America, small towns are far more friendly than any city. ---> No real revelation here. 3. You're not the dominant species. Yes manticores seen uniquely evolved to go anywhere a pony does. Ponies would be a natural food source it would seem. Like humans ponies have no natural weapons. But humans have technology. Ponies developed magic and technology. It makes all the difference and its a direct result of intelligence. So why do the monsters stay in the Everfree forest? The show doesn't say. You would think the presence of Ponyville would ring the dinner bell. We can only speculate, but It would make sense that ponies erected a magical barrier to keep the beasties within. look at the show, are the ponies living in fear? no. They are the masters of their world, not the monsters. --> you are wrong here. 2. Weird pony biology. Any human can adapt to a crippling injury. A change in body style would be no sweat. I think you're reaching here. 1. It's just another world. Yes. Its a different world with different rules. Anyone who reads sci fi stories knows all about alternate dimensions. In this one magic makes the calls. technology seems to work but magic is predominate.Everyone who watches the show knows this. I think the fact that Equestria is different is a draw, not a turn off. Bottom line: You are missing one important fact. Equestria is escapism. Ponies are analogies for humanity, they have all our strengths and weaknesses. If you watch the show, ponies live exactly as confortably as humans do. None42069 520 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 Hmmm, valid points, but being a pony could STILL be better than being human. I mean, they are a peaceful species. Do they want a war with each other? No. Humans just fight. Let's look back at Hearts Warming Eve: the play showed that before Pinkie got her Cutie Mark Equestria was made, the kingdom of Earth ponies, Unicorn and pegasuseseses were at odds with each other. Not much was shown but wouldn't be surprising if violence erupted between the 3 kingdoms. Then, in season 1, there WAS a war: Appleloozians vs Buffalos. Only weapons were pies but it still counted as a war. Finally, the Royal Canterlot Wedding incident in which CANTERLOT WAS INVADED! Also, since the mane 6 were separated from the elements, they had to FIGHT BACK! PHYSICALLY! There are other incidents which were only mentioned but not shown like Nightmare Night and Discord. Common sense can be used here and suggest that they fought back. Speaking of Nightmare Night, remember when Nightmare Moon returned in episode 1? The guards were about to attack when they were knocked back.
Silverhoof 2,844 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 (edited) OK, I'll post this here for your edification. Pony Physiology 101 This post is inspired by the Equine Anatomy 101 poster. http://twentypercent...n_4-horn-organs Pony pre-history is that of a grazer. There are vast grasslands in Equestria, but no other large grazing animals. When the Earth Ponies discovered agriculture, the race left the grasslands. Nothing has since evolved to take the ponies place. Compared to humans, an Equestrian Pony is about 4 feet tall at the head, and weighs about the same. The face of a pony is very human-like: rounded with a small (if any) muzzle. Ponies in Equestria no more resemble earthly ponies, than humans resemble the apes. Equestrian anatomy allows for far greater range of movement that earthy equines. They do not sport the distended belly an earthy grazer must have. Further, an Equestrian can stand and sit much like a human (even to the point of dancing). Magic and Telekinesis. Magic infuses the very land itself. It’s through the use of magic that ponies were able to rise above the beasts and shape the land. There is one universal magic inherent to all ponies: telekinesis. Earth Ponies utilize TK at its most elemental level. They can pick up objects simply by touching it with a hoof. This is true telekinesis but with no range. For example: An Earth pony picks up a saw. His TK holds the saw in place, but it’s the strength of his forelimb that moves the saw back and forth. This particular brand of TK is limited to his forelimbs only. Pegasus Ponies also have this simple Telekinesis. But they can express this TK thru two other limbs: Their wings. Flight is simply an expression of telekinesis. Pegasi wings are far too small to effectively lift the pony. TK does the flying, the wings appear to be for control only. In some cases, this telekinetic flight is stronger and faster than others. Pegasi also have a racial magic. All pegasi have the same abilities, though the degree of power expressed may vary. Walking on clouds, weather manipulation, and shaping clouds into a safe home environments make up this dramatic racial magic. Further, Pegasi can combine their abilities to produce ever more powerful effects. Unicorns are masters of telekinesis and magic. Telekinesis can be expressed at range by any unicorn. Further it enables fine control. TK strength varies, but in general it’s about the same as human strength. Unicorns with training can express their telekinesis in many ways including large area effects (as seen by Twilight Sparkle in a number of episodes). Unicorn Magic: As pictured in the poster, the skull of a unicorn protects a second brain like organ. This is where the expressions of magic come from. Every unicorn has some magical ability, powerful or not. Certain unicorns like Twilight can be trained to act like a true earthy wizard. Most however are limited to their own unique brand of magic (like Rarity’s ability to discover deposits of gem stones). The Fauna of Equestria. The magic inherent of the land also infused the many enemies of Ponykind. The manticore for example, is perfectly adapted for predation upon ponies of any type. Anywhere a pony can go, so can the manticore. All manner of magical beasts have evolved to prey upon magical ponies. What is interesting is that humans are familiar with many of these creatures as well, but that is for a later chapter. Pony’s coped with this monstrous situation with more magic. The monsters are magically confined to protected areas like the Everfree Forest. Occasionally one might escape, but ponies live a life free of predation thanks to powerful magic. Of course so much magic concentrated in a relatively small area has resulted in a wild proliferation of magical beasts and plants. These reservations of monsters are shunned by all but the most foolish ponies. But one brave zebra, Zecora, does study the intensely magic flora from within the Everfree Forest itself. Other Intelligent Life. Equestria is home to many forms of sentient life. Most tend to be racially segregated into their own lands. The Gryphon Kingdoms are the best known, but Zebras and Buffalo also maintain their separate lands. Diamond Dogs live separated from the rest of Equestria in their tunnels, which are clearly within the realm of Celestia and the ponies. They appear to have enjoyed a secret existence but lost that when they enslaved one of the six Heroines of Harmony. The Dogs appear to be operating illegal gemstone mines (gems which clearly rest on Equestrian national land). It is not clear if Celestia sent her army to clear the buggers out (probably happened off screen). Other sentient races without their own lands include bovines (who stampeded in one episode), and sheep (who were corralled in another episode). Both spoke in English/Equestrian and appeared perfectly capable of reason. However there was no demonstration of the telekinesis ponies have mastered. Lastly, there are ambiguous examples of sentience. Many of the lesser mammals appear to have sentience, but do not speak. Fluttershy’s rabbit demonstrates many actions that can only come from sentience. Further the rabbit and a number of other animals are shown with eyebrows. On both Earth and Equestria, sentients have facial muscles who’s only purpose is convey emotion. Eyebrows are prefect examples of that. Many Equestrian creatures are able to express all the emotions of a human; they just have no speech or telekinesis. Without a language or ability to manipulate the environment, they are treated as animals by the ponies (and likely preyed upon by gryphons). The whole "picking up things with your mouth" was mostly a joke. since I was referring mainly to the fact that Earth ponies are outshined, if not outclassed by those with such abilities as flight and magic. 4. Well, if the ponies in the city and the small towns are the same, that means that they all follow directions sychophantically. It's hard to deny that 90% of the ponies in the show are rather useless, all things considered. 3. They don't always stay in the Everfree Forest. The dragons go where they please, with the ponies all but helpless to stop them. And many of these monsters have hints of magic themself. A magic barrier is basically saying "If you step outside this line, everything will ruthlessly murder you." IE they are trapped. 2. The difference is that even if you face an injury, you're still you. If you become a pony, then it is an inherent change to your pschology and physiology. Some people go crazy dealing with injuries. Imagine dealing with an injury when you lack a knowledge of your own thought processes. 1. That's the point I'm trying to make. They are comfortable, but life isn't perfect, and nor should anyone callously say that would give away these problems, these issues they are familiar, even comfortable with for a whole new set of problems they may not even understand. 1 Frayed Logic | Wits End | Light Eye
Pinkazoid 3,493 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 I understand what you mean, But....eehhh I got nothing to do .....Pinkazoid's rant AHOY! 5. Yeah, Earth Ponies have it pretty tough, considering no magic, no especial abilities, of course. But, still, being a pony none the less, I wouldn't change my life to be a pony okay maybe a Pegasus It'd seem pretty pointless, but to me it's a wonderland, to you not so much, yeah, being an earth pony would be pretty disappointing. Personally, I wouldn't mind being a pegasus, the idea seems pretty cool, of course there's no real possibilities that I'll ever turn into one, I'd like to, but of course I won't. But, I'm sure being an Earth pony ain't that bad, from our point of view it is, but like almost anything else, it's something we'd get used to over the time xD 4. While I agree that Canterlot, and Manehatten aren't all that great, I don't think there's only one place as Ponyville, we haven't heard of one, but who knows, Equestria could have more of them for all we know, Appleloosa seems pretty cool too, I wouldn't mind living there if Ponyville wasn't possible. 3. Me'h, well it's one pony out of Hundreds of thousands in Equestria, sure there's been many occurrences on the show, but chances are, that as a pony we might never even see one. 2. Yeah, I got to agree 100 % on this, many don't realize it, but it's trueeeee xD 1. Yeah, all worlds are the same, however it doesn't change the fact that the one I've lived on is already pretty rough..... Ethan Pow 332 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 5. Honestly, If I where to be a earth pony I would be able to handle that because I wouldn't want if I was a pegasus to learn that I have a extreme fear of heights (which I used to have it, falling isn't something I enjoy), Nor would I want to use magic to cause a issue that would destroy Equestria, I still live on a farm right now so a Earth Pony would be ideal based on my family linage. 4. Equestria isn't perfect and I like that, you will have ponies that will try and take advantage of your first steps into the world if your not Prepared. Your not going to find ponies that are always friendly. You might not be in the same time where Equestira was founded, maybe before. It would be that ponies will be more like how humans socialize and that's where I can still adapt. 3. I can accept that, Dragons and other powerful creatures that can rip you apart in a instant... we do have animals that can kill humans too, understand of their territory. There is where you need to be smart in the world you live in, stay where its safe and if you need to do something that needed better make sure you got friends to back you up. 2. If I wasn't prepared for this I might freak out a bit, getting how to use my new body would be the first step, If I was prepared that I was going to end up here I might not freak out. It would be a thing to understand, but if I was limited to a earth pony I would be able to get this quickly than a Pegasus or unicorn. As wings and a horn would be a major attachment than I would need to get used too. Random magic bursts unexpectedly or crashing into other ponies homes would be a major worry to me but in practice you will improve. That's the learning experience for anything. 1. From a view they are not much different like any intelligent species should. The culture and Ideals of that species would be something to be careful of, If not, you might offend every pony in Equestria that you never be accepted, but based on what I know on looking at this. Like I said before adapting is something that any creature can do, if you can't adapt you can't survive. Since its based on new laws of its own universe, things will not make sense to what you normally will. Logic won't help you and sometimes instinct will get you in major trouble. Got to take it one hoof at a time. After all of that, If it matters how I am offered a chance to go to Equestria. I believe most of me would do it even if it was a one way trip. 2 I Run and Operate Alicornradio

Cherry Blossom 864 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 I would still totally be a pony, I mean it might be better than humanity in a few ways. 3. Due to the lack of advanced technology, ponies would have to put more effort into work, which can make them more fit and healthier. 2. It seems that everypony gets along very well with no racism, but maybe with species and problaby no discrimination against filly fakers and colt cuddlers. 1. There wouldn't really be any war and corruption among ponies, because they are united into one nation. Unless a civil war takes place with the Lunar Republic and Solar Empire. LightningBlaze 0 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 *cough* Pre-Equestria was lots of conflicts. If they didn't make up, the three tribes probably would have went all out war. Now for OP. I'd have to agree, I don't want to LIVE there, but VISIT it, as a pony. You really can't beat being a human. It's life that sucks, not humans, so make it better. Although, my life is pretty good right now. I only want to go there for the curiosity, but eventually come back. I want to go to Equestria I want to meet Princess Celestia I want to see that magical land and have hooves instead of hands I want to go to Ponyville I want it to all be real I want to say hi to everypony that's my dream as a brony I know all of this. But, visiting there now would be fine. A Pegasus Pony insulting an Earth Pony today would be like racism. But it's not anymore. Besides, only if you were sent back in time by Dr. Whooves to before the three races made peace would you be in any trouble. Everything that people have said here is a valid point. And everyone that answered me said about Hearth's Warming Eve. But it's all out of instinct and defence. The Changlings are a higher rank so they chose to attack, it was also to feed their 'tribe'. And PS, Pegasi. :
Glaceon 793 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 Sorry when it comes to being a pony I won't listen to reason. PONIES ARE TO AWESOME! Still good valid points there. *Brohoofs* 1 Previously: Mal (Starbolt) Eeveelutions: @Eevee: Eevee @Vaporeon: N-Harmonia : Ampharos @Flareon: Descant/Bard @Espeon: Locked @Umbreon: Lhee @Leafeon: Firebolt @Glaceon: Mal @Sylveon: DontDropThatDedenne
XrosOver 613 July 25, 2012 Share July 25, 2012 Valid points all of them but many of us still want to be equine 1 way or another because beside the near perfect life, having an out of body experience would be fun and challenging. Also nopony would be able to mock you or scorn you for appearance because in a way they are all the same. Besides the trash portion I find that experience intriguing but still a literal 4th wall away (sighs in a depressed fashion). I love having HiE dreams and reading the fanfictions about what it would be like.(HiE=Human in Equestria) you make very valid points and if you don't want to experience life on the side of the equine biology fence, by all means ignore the comments like mine and nobody or pony will judge you. The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?

Yes they used pies but that was because it was the only weapon they could use to keep the ratings where it was. It was still a war.Besides, the fact that guards are present implies that Equestria is not THAT peaceful even today (or their present day). As for the "pegasuseseses", that was a joke based on Chouncelor Puddinghead (Making her played by Pinkie doesn't make it less official... Right? )
