7 Legit Tips to get you to the 100 (or 200) character limit.

::::EDIT:::: The character counter has been updated, Crossed out tips means they no longer apply!

Have you ever found yourself just shy of that 100 character limit? You don't know what else to write down because you didn't have much to say? Well, here are 7 tips to LEGITAMENTLY get you past 100 characters! The first thing I'm going to say is this guide isn't going to tell you to over puctualize your posts like this: "@#$YU#!@@$^™¡¢∞§ª•¶∞". This is a no bull-crap guide to help you get over the 100 letter bump.

How do I know this stuff? I've been around internet forums for about 8 years now, so I am no stranger to post minimums. I have also moderated my own forum in the past. Anyways, here are the 7 tips to make your post that much longer!

1) Spell check your post. Most of you already do this, but there are times where your computer or yourself doesn't catch bad spelling. For example: "I watch that episode last night too bad my friend is miss it." The mistakes in this sentence seems pretty obvious, but if you are a fast typer like me, it is easy to forget the "-ed" or "-ing" at the end of words. Also, sometimes people type the wrong word like, "wear" instead of "where" or "their" instead of "they're", "your" instead of "you're". Things like this can push your post over 100.

This tip is helpful if you are super close to the 100 minimum. But even if you aren't that close to 100, you should spell check anyways. :) You can also forget about using contractions. Instead of "don't", use "do not"! The counter recognizes spaces!

2) Never type "leet". This is already against the forum rules, but on occasion I see people use "4" or "r u" in the middle of their post. Almost all of you don't do this but it is worth mentioning because leet speak can really eat away your characters.

Get in the habit of not typing the same way you text on your phone, even if you are posting from your phone.

3) Make sure your post has all the commas, semicolons, periods, and any other puctuation you need to make a properly structured sentence. This tip is pretty straight forward, but for some of us, we forget the rules of english grammar and therefore forfit some characters. Double check puctuation if you are short on characters.

This tip is helpful if you are close to 100. Also, if you use an ellipsis (...) or (???) or (!!!), this can add emphasis on what you are saying. If you are excited use three explaination points. If you are anxiously asking something, use three question marks. Only use three of them however, because after 3, the character counter stops recognizing them. Besides, it looksl like spam if you do that!

4) Make sure you are using the pony words! "Everypony, anypony, nopony, somepony" instead of everyone, ect. This adds one more precious letter to your post if you are close, so don't be afraid to use them!

5) Use adjectives and adverbs! The more descipters you use in your post, the more colorful it becomes! Whenever you are using a noun, put an adjective in front of it! It may sound dumb but it may just be the difference between being below and above the post minimum. Don't go overboard with this tip, however. People want to read rich content, not read how well you can use descripters!

6)

Some bbcode doesn't count the characters inside them!

If you are addressing someone's post directly, don't be afraid to use quoting. But if you are using the quote tags to quote something like a line from a MLP episode, just use these instead: "I just don't know what went wrong!" I also believe urls, pictures, and video tags don't count the characters inside them. I could be wrong however.

7) Think harder! The last tip I have for you guys is think of something else to say! 100 characters ISN'T that hard to type up! Two average sized sentences should do the trick. So if you typed down one 50 character sentence that already summed up what you wanted to say, expand on it! Explain why you feel that way, or ask a follow up question.

This seems like dumb-obvious advice, but trust me, it works every time for me.

I doubt I touched on all possible tips to reach 100 characters, so I am open to any suggestions to add to this guide! Thanks for reading!

**BONUS TIP** Avoid using abbreviations such as, "IMO" or "TBH" or even "LOL". For ones like "IMO", type out the phrase, "In my opinion" instead. Instead of typing "LOL" be descriptive about how you laughed, like did you fall out of your chair, or did you spit coffee on your screen?!

In an ideal world, punctuation doesn't count toward character count.

Rather than thinking way too hard on how you should worded your post to bypass the extremely low limitation, it's better to get more point on your 'trashtalking' ability.

Anyway.. shouldn't this be in Everfree Forest? It's not like there's any question or feedback

I think this is most like feedback. I looked through all the sum-forums and I feel like this is the best place for it.

Hmm ,some pretty good tips, I personally don't think it's that hard to achieve the 100 character limit, <-- this is already over 100, it just doesn't seem that hard to me.

I agree. Honestly though, I just felt like making a new thread, and i thought, "Why not make a guide?" <-- I used one of my tips to make this from a 99 character post to a 102 character post. Can you guess which one? :)

I was just thinking about making a topic like this myself.

So I'll just post whatever I feel could be added to your post.

The easiest way to legitimately add more content to your post is to answer one or more of these questions:

  • Who?
  • What?
  • Where?
  • When?
  • Why?
  • How?
You'll have 100 characters in no time, and a better post that adds more value to the site!

Punctuation, without it posts can be difficult to read. So by just adding in some periods, commas, colons etc. you can improve the readability of your post while adding more characters.

Being more verbose. Try explain whatever you're talking about in as much detail as possible. Not only will it be much easier to reach the character limit but it could make your point clearer.

Comment on what other people have posted or answer any question they have asked. Doing so could help develop the topic and help other members.

I'd like to thank the MLP Vector Club for the images used in my avatar.

Known as "Princess Mi Amore Cadenza", "Trixie the Great", "Tom" and "Tomzoid the EggDroid".

This was a pretty good text with some tips some ponies probably need to think about. But as I've said in some other threads about this 100 character limit, is it really that hard to reach 100 characters? I mean really it's just one line of text. So these tips shouldn't really be necessary.

You can also try removing contractions. You can get a nice post and get by the limit if you just type as if you aren't a freaking challenged person and type like you would in your English classes. I could spend more time, but try not to do this.

I've got a really easy tip. In fact, this one tip alone will completely eliminate the need to even worry about that silly character limit:

Don't post unless you have something to positively contribute to the conversation.

Don't forget Who, What, Where-....

*reads posts above*

Feld0 just had to say it before me, didn't he?.....

Anyhow, good tips, I hope they're helpful to other ponies, I easily keep my posts above 100 characters xD

well i'v started to adapt to typeing 100 charactors for each post even on the fan artsection, then again i posted over the minimum charactor limit before the limit was put in place so myah no change for me. But yeah this seems like good advice for the new ponys and the one who arn't ajusting to the change.

How is passing the 100 character limit actually any threat to anybody?

fillerfillerfillerfillerfillerfillerfillerfillerfillerfiller-Nah, just kidding.

Anyhow, I would just like to point out that I really, really dislike the pony puns when used outside the fictional universe of MLP. I mean, seriously? :P But for the rest, your advice is kind of good, I guess. I suppose I wouldn't use them myself, for as you can see, not much thought is put into my posts. But it's still recommendable to some people out there... :/
