I do keep it a secret. It is sad but I know that everyone that I dare tell would spread it around my school, and before long I would be a laughing stock. I'm not as awesome as this one kid that has Algebra the period before me. He walks around with his MLP hoody like he owns the place! lol. It's just how it is. If I tell somebody, I will be driven to madness. The only kid I feel like telling is my Old best friend. He was A MLP:FIM Know-it-all! He would never shut up about it. If his personality hasn't changed though, then he'd probably just contact all of my friends and tell them just for trolls. Though, that is what WOULD happen, because I don't even know his number and he moved to some far away land. I could probably get my new best friend to get his number so I could contact him and find out, but in the end, the only person on earth that has suspicions that I am a brony is my little sister. Though I have to thank my little sister for existing, as when I watch MLP on Netflix, my parents think It was my sister that was watching it and they don't say a thing. So I pretty much haven't told anyone and I don't plan to. It is such a shame, but we all have secrets. Hiding one little thing that doesn't concern them is just fine. I bet my family has hid a million secrets from me.

If you guys haven't seen one of those "Mom, Dad, I'm pregnant" videos, there was this one group of bronies that did a "Mom, dad, I'm a brony" video, and their parents freaked out.

Eh... For me, it's not a secret but I don't advertise it really. I don't think it's fair to say I'm ashamed of it, but explaining it to a group of people other than my close friends leaves me blushing (and usually nervous laughing).

I am an expert in whatever you don't call me out for not really being, and don't know enough about to realize I have no clue what I'm doing   :)

I wouldn't necessarily call myself super secretive, since I wear pony shirts in public occasionally, but I usually don't tell people I'm part of the fandom or that I like the show unless they ask me first. And even then I give very short answers like "Yeah, I like the show" or "Yeah, I do music related stuff with the fandom".

Whenever I go to school everyone is like "hey there's that brony!" My friends also like it. Like come on. If you know me it's hard to tell I'm not a brony. My friends and I talk about it all the time

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

I treat it like any other show. Sure, some people may be a little surprised that a show like this would be considered great, but lol like I care.

Plus, a lot of people around me know who bronies are and dgaf.

Though, when I was in high school, I got interesting responses. When I "came out" as a brony, I guess I was considered "that guy who likes ponies," which was fine by me since this was senior year and I was aiming to leave and go as far away as possible. It was fun though to see people's responses and only two people questioned my sexual identity. c:

Well I just started watching the show this week so I may tell more people but we'll see.  So far only 2 people I know IRL know I like MLP.  My parents and my sister do not know about it and I fully intend to keep it that way.  My mom and my sister found out about my ball jointed dolls collection and they flipped out and threatened intervention and therapy.  My sister said all condescendingly "When did this start and please tell me it's going to stop."  So chances are they wouldn't take to me watching a show for little girls and collecting plush ponies lol.  I'll probably keep it on the down low at work too.  I've told some of them about my dolls but I think one gender bending hobby is enough for them right now lol.  Actually the first time I heard the word brony was from a girl from work who was complaining about some boy relative going to a mlp meetup or something. She said something to me about it and I kinda brushed it off thinking "if she only knew what I collected."  haha now I collect ponies too.

EDIT:  forgot about the netflix thing.  It will rat me out eventually.  I pay for the netflix but allow my mom to use it on her kindle, and now on the bluray I got for my dad upstairs.  My sister even comes downstairs sometimes and uses my xbox to watch stuff on it.  So it's in the recently watched.  I'm F'd.  I could probably brush that off though.  The plushies...eh not so much.  They werent' thrilled with my DC Skelanimals and they're comic related, which is an acceptable hobby for males.

Well I'm a new brony, I've only been into it for a week, but I can't stop talking about how awesome it is to my friends, who have mixed opinions.  Most of the women my age say they have watched it and liked it, but the dudes are a little skeptical.  The only friend I have irl who actually watches it is one of my best friends Brock, coincidentally he's gay, but you would never know he's gay if you met him.  Awesome guitar player, great guy.  The only weird look I have gotten so far was from a keyboard player in this comedy band I sat in for last Saturday.  I hooked up my phone to our monitor after the club closed to the public and played him I've Got To Find a Way.  He loved it so much that he said he's going to learn it, and we're going to jam out to it if they get another gig in the near future.  To me it's more beneficial to tell people than to hide it, because moments like that happen.

I usually wear pony-related merchandise such as bracelets or shirts so most people can automatically tell that I'm a brony. My family knows as well, especially since my parents continuously buy me pony merchandise and such. People know but they don't really care at this point. The only reason my parents aren't big fans of my pony obsession is because of how much money it costs after a while...but that could be said for any of my other obsessions.

I am pretty secretive about liking it to be honest. I'd rather not hear shit from people and if you lived where I live you might agree with me. I live in the south a very small town at that and the whole time I have been down here I have not met one single brony. I'd wear shirts and stuff around others in a group that enjoy the show but out in public I get really paranoid easy.

For me, it's a small circle of people that includes fans and non-fans, and I have no active desire for more or less people to know. I don't hide that I like the show, but I don't go around wearing my fandom on my sleeve either.

Nothing about my appearance really indicates I'm a fan. I don't really wear T-shirts anyway, as I almost always wear a dress-shirt and tie to work, so my clothing doesn't indicate I'm a fan. And aside from one Rarity plush that sits on my computer desk, I don't really collect the merchandise either. Not that there's anything wrong with these things, but eh, they're not for me.

But really, I just don't see any reason to bring it up most of the time. I don't want to be "that fan" who always prattles on and on about his hobby to people who aren't familiar with it or interested in it. That's annoying and rather discourteous, no matter what your fandom is. I can talk your ear off about the episodes and characters if you're a fan too, and enjoy talking about the series, but I also have the basic social skills not to bore someone to death about MLP if they don't even watch the show.

  • 3 weeks later...

Only a few friends and my brother know I'm a brony. I'm not very secretive about it, I wear a Derpy belt and beanie almost every day I walk around the college and I don't mind if people see it but I don't talk about it unless they bring it up

Haha, I keep it a secret to my parents and when I'm home in Republican Orange County (Don't tell them though, they're really nice at times)

But when I'm in college. . .It's pony time! College is far more open and I've seen some crazier stuff than guys liking a show, so I have a few friends in college who absolutely love MLP and I don't mind wearing my MLP shirts to show support.

well, my closest friends know for sure, but others might know as it has been brought up in conversations. However they haven't reacted much at all, but it might be because I didn't react to it being brought up either, I was just not letting it bother me. =)

However I haven't told my parents, I won't have a meaningful conversations with them about it anyways, so I don't see the point :D

I don't necessarily hide it, but I don't go out of my way to bring it up either.  Most people who know are either bronies themselves or at least know the show.

If I hide it from anyone, it'd probably by my 3 nieces (aged 9-13), more because I don't feel like having to explain it if I don't have to.  Though if I did I'd only have to point to my books of Yotsuba&! and Azumanga Daioh, since I mainly like them for the same reason (funny, cute, and can be quite clever)

The only people who are aware that I am a brony are other bronies. I kinda like it that way though, since a lot of non bronies that I know are close minded to the whole pony thing.

Well, my family members certainly know, I don't watch MLP too much around them though. I'm not shy about buying pony merch in public either, don't do it that often but treat it as any other casual purchase. ^_^

Still, the internet is definitely the place that I'm most open about it, just 'cuz I guess. I'm no closet brony though, just... more reserved and selective about showing pony love in public, I guess.

Well my brother found out by seeing me watch an episode. I blantintly told my parents and I watch mlp on my laptop in front of my sister and husbond so yeah no shame in liking the show.  Gets kind of annoying when people think that is odd but eh that's life
