500 Word MLP:FiM Fanfic Challenge

Okay, I just took a few minutes to read through the last of the ones I hadn't read and I do see what @@Sne was talking about. There's a few instances where characters may act a bit strange but no one said they had to be perfectly in character, and most of the time the out of character moments add a lot to the story.

 

Obviously, what happened in @@MallaJong1's story wouldn't really happen. But that's the fun part about story writing. You can have characters act in different ways. And I don't think Spike or Luna once fell out of character during that whole interaction.

 

It's all perspective, I suppose, but I think every one of these stories is exceptional. Some are sweet and heart warming, and others are a bit more poignant and grim. Overall, I would like to see some of these flesh out into full stories. Especially yours @@Zoop, you leaving-all-the-juicy-details-out writer, you!

Okay so here's my entry. This turned out to be longer than I had expected. The title is 'Midnight Mission'.

 

 

Spike was a dragon on a mission.

The objective: get some delicious ice cream for a midnight snack and get back to bed without waking Twilight.

 

He knew that she probably wouldn’t want him eating this late, but he was hungry and he was going to eat something. He had to get something into his belly and ice cream seemed like the perfect midnight treat. Twilight would never have to know, Spike chuckled quietly at that thought. It would be a secret between him and the library.

 

As carefully as his clawed feet could manage the purple dragon tiptoed down the stairs trying to put extra effort into being as light on his feet as possible. Spike was very much aware of the fact that for whatever reason every noise was much louder at night time so he had to be extra cautious. Unfortunately for Spike the next step he stood on wanted to foil his plans and Spike winced as it creaked loudly. As the ridiculously loud noise ended Spike opened his eyes and waited with bated breath as his heart pounded in his chest and his fate was decided.

 

For many seconds the only noise was the quiet tick tock of the clock, eventually a quiet sigh was added to the mix as Spike wiped some invisible sweat off his brow. That had been close, a bit closer than Spike would have preferred. The baby dragon placed a hand to his heart, this was way more intense than he’d thought it would be.

 

After waiting until his heartbeat slowed down Spike continued his journey down the stairs and into the kitchen. Feeling around in the dark Spike managed to find the drawer where the spoons were kept and grabbed one for himself. After feeling around for a bit longer the he found the ice cream.

 

Spike cackled madly (quietly of course) as he ripped open the tub and dug in.

 

Mere minutes later Spike decided that he’d had enough ice cream and headed back the way he’d came. He was just barely up the stairs when something called out to him.

 

“Who.”

Spike very nearly jumped out of his skin and just barely resisted the urge to shriek. Spike’s cape wiped around as he turned towards the noise and came face to face with Owlowiscious.

 

“Oh, Owlowiscious it’s just you. Hey don’t tell Twilight about any of this okay,” Spike said.

 

“Who?”

 

“Twilight, you know, the purple unicorn that lives here?”

 

“Who?”

 

Spike shook his head in disappointment, “I thought we already went though who everypony is, Owlowiscious, you shouldn’t be having this problem. Twilight should really have your memory checked or something.”

 

The owl’s head tilted, “Who.”

 

“I’m going to bed. Night, Owlowiscious,” Spike deadpanned, as he climbed up the stairs and snuck back into his bed, he was certain he heard a faint ‘who’.

 

I have no idea if that's the correct spelling of Owlowiscious but it's what I found.

I go offline for a bit, and see someone with their jimmies up their bungholes. Because we all know this contest is serious business, and should be dealt with in the most serious manner. If you do one tiny thing wrong, oh fuck you writer, you are going to hell. You can't change a small thing about a personality inside of a fanfic that happens in your mind, IT'S CHEATING DAMNIT. WAAAH, Y U GUYS CHEAT.

 

This. This amused the hell out of me. It's just a small contest we are having on the forum. No one is winning anything. No one gains anything but satisfaction. Stop thinking that this is the one thing that will change your all important life, and fill it with riches. It doesn't work like that. Don't like a story? Ok then. Don't call us cheaters because we don't fit your over the top expectations in a fic. Show us how perfect you are, please c:

To those who haven't had their stories added to or updated on the front page, don't worry -- if you sent me revisions over PM or posted them here (or posted a story for that matter), I shall have them all on the front post tomorrow, updated or added -- I won't be doing more than remotely maintaining the TF2 Hangout tomorrow, so while that's going on, I'll work on finishing reading all entries, and get the community poll up for people to read and vote on their favorite stories. Yeah, that IS a popularity contest, so it's not weighted as heavily as my own judgements, which are purely constructive and objective. I have no bias. Heads up, if you feel once results of the winners are announced Monday morning and you feel my own vote (which will not be shown until news of the winners on Monday to keep voters' views independent of mine) is unfair, keep in mind I'm open to talk it over and explain it.

 

Thanks for the patience, I've been extremely busy and exhausted and haven't been able to keep everything up to date the past day or so. Future contests should run smoother. So again, as long as your story is posted somewhere here or via PM, I DO have it, even if it's not on the front page.

 

 

Finally, all unentered entries and wanted revisions need to be submitted within the next hour exactly. Contest ends Midnight EST. By this point though if you haven't started on your entry, I'd suggest you either get going right now, or wait until the next contest starts soon after this one.

 

 

Thanks yet again for all understanding, and for acting civilly in the thread. I appreciate it, and I hope the next few days of judging and voting will be fun and rewarding.
