Love, tolerance, and a preview of things to come

It's okay. Somebody else would have gotten around to it - it just would've taken a couple minutes longer.

Oh no, I think he isn't banned, or at least I hope so.

What I'm saying is that this might be contraproductive, because if you punish people hard for breaking the rules, loving and tolerating ponies around here wouldn't have the heart to report them. So it might end up doing more harm in the end.

I know, my point was that while some people may think this way - be it completely, or only where their friends are concerned - many more yet will report it out of a desire to keep the forum clean of such things. Additionally, we do have sectional moderators who are tasked with sifting through specific portions of the board for unreported content.

At the end of the day, the rules are the rules.

Also, that spoiler gets all of my approval.

I think that's what people were looking for: a pictorial definition of what is acceptable. That spoiler has all of my "yes," and if the picture in it is acceptable, all my worries about this rule system have officially vanished. :D

Thank you Zoop, have all my brohooves. :P

Actually, it's still not clear for me. I know what IS acceptable, but maybe you mods should consider showing us what ISN'T?

It seems there's a distinction between "sexy" and "pornographic." "Sexy" would mean the above picture. "Pornographic" would mean showing naughty bits, poses that go beyond suggestive, pretty much blatant R34 stuff.

There are actually two versions of the above image...

If this version is also acceptable, then the definition seems certain: unless you post outright R34, you're safe. :)

Actually, since there are no humans in Equestria, I would consider the version I posted a bit more naughty. ;)

I like this new warning system. Strict, but simple. :3

Anyways, I'm pretty sure we'll have less pointless posts and spammers. I myself am even scared to get one of my posts deleted or reported. :P But that in itself is good, because it'll scare people into not making those kinds of posts.

I'm gonna give a brohoof to you for helping out the forum become better! :)

This actually is a really good idea for a warning system. Among the better of ones I have seen, if not the best, on the forums I have been on. That being said, I do question what values things like the following hold:

1. Quoting a hidden post.

2. Spam.

3. Posting of illegal (Not necessarily NSFW) content.

4. Asking for solicitations.

As well, I do wonder how this could be applied to status updates and topics, which also can potentially violate rules.

Hey here is a nooby question inbound XD but what does NSFW stand for? I just want to know so I dont break that rule because I'm unfamiliar with the term.

thanks!

NSFW means "Not Safe For Work", including content like pornography. NSFW is pretty much another way of saying "adult content" so knowing that you should be fine.

Even though I still want to stand mostly neutral on this point, I find that this system surely has potential to be a good one.

There is one more small thing that has me concerned. It's more of a loose end that I forgot to mention, so it kind of ties into my other post.

You mentioned that every post deletion will carry with it a certain warning level. In theory, this is fine.

However, it should be noted that there have been posts in the past that have been deleted without breaking any rules whatsoever (usually because they quoted someone that ended up breaking a rule later in the topic, so the posts are mass deleted to get rid of the tension). I've not only seen this happen, but it's happened to me. It wasn't an issue before, because there weren't any infraction points tied to it, but now there will be. If you decide to start infracting people every time their posts are deleted, it will be prudent to only delete posts when they are clearly breaking the rules. Otherwise, someone might get infracted and not know why.

It's just a loose end, but one worth considering.

I've addressed this about two times before. Let me get the quoted post again...

I don't think this will be the case. Presently, we do not hand out any warnings to people who get their posts deleted for responding to deleted post. Why would this change? It's not really breaking any rules unless the response was inappropriate.

It really would make no sense to infract someone who wasn't breaking any rules in the first place, basically. I believe what is meant is that every post that is deleted that breaks rules will be removed. An infraction is a punishment for breaking the rules. Quoting a post that was deleted is not a breech of rules.

EDIT : Arylett, you ninja'd me! :P

Anyway, I get the impression that this really isn't altering the existing rules in any way. It's just putting a system in place to enforce those rules, seeing as there is no real procedure at the moment. It looks a lot more intimidating than it really is. :)

Oh. Well, that's a relief. The first post in the topic led me to believe that every single post deletion would result in points.

What? Well, i guess this does make sense, there has been a significant amount of swearing, ship pictures, and NSFW elements of these forums, and most of us are over 13, including me, i think this is actually reasonable.

i like this idea... sounds like alot to keep track of though, goodluck to you guys!

i have seen some talk of an 18+ forum, separate from the general discussion and life advice forum, would this solve the nsfw problem? on a rave thread i used to frequent, they had a strict no drug talk rule, and it was constantly being broken. so they made an 18+ forum with a drug topic, porn topic, angry flaming rants topic, ect. not many people posted in it, but it kept the few people who wanted to post that stuff inside that forum, so other's who didn't want to be involved could easily avoid it, and it kept the drama down. it was also easier for the mods to just move inappropriate topics there, allow people to get their opinions out (and hopefully get over it), instead of closing every single thread where someone said something not nice to someone else. that being said, im not advocating for these types of topics, i was just suggesting this as a solution to the drama because i have seen it work before.

i like all the new rules we have so far tho :)

Thanks, that's quite how I would interpret it too, I just wanted to know the official interpretation.

I know other forums just have a mature section that requires you to be a certain age to enter, maybe you could have this here for people who wanted that sort of stuff?

Well, the site CAN'T have one of these. Feld0 is 17. If he hosted stuff like that on his site, it would be shut down. :/

Plus, you'd have the boatloads of people who'd lie about their age to see that stuff.

well minus the porn thing? again im not advocating for this, just suggesting the idea of a forum where a higher age is required for people to discuss drugs, or complain about "everyone who is leaving is a dick" or whatever the current "drama starter" is (lol), might solve some of this dilemma.

this is what gave me the idea:

that some people don't seem to mind.

or maybe it would cause more problems than it's worth. now that i think of it, most people on here are so young that this is probably a very bad idea. i keep forgetting that since most of yal are so mature in your posts! ^^;

What? Of course we could have one, the Internet police wouldn't take it down just because there's an 18+ section on a site owned by a 17 year old. We have plenty of staff, including admins, who are over 18.

That being said, Feld0 not being able to legally visit a section of his own site would be a problem anyway :P

In my opinion, the most drama caused on a forum comes from the people whining about the fact that there is drama.

When someone points out "Oh my god there is a problem! We must remedy it with the force of a thousand suns!" everything rapidly snowball incontrolably. I personnally can't see any drama on this forum, mostly because I don't participate a lot in the discussions actually, but I really wonder hat happened to cause all of this.

Can't we let the people work on their problems by themselves instead of coming behind them screaming "YOU CAN'T FIGHT HERE! FEEL MY WRATH WITHOUT EVEN WAITING FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!"

Why do we need to make up new rules? I don't get it... But again, I'm probably missing some informations so...

But... wait, if he was hosting the stuff on HIS server, wouldn't that mean he'd own the 18+ stuff? As far as I know, you can't have stuff for people over 18 on your site unless you're over 18.

I might be wrong though.

Edit: I would like to had that most 18+ sections on forum like this one end up in either some sort of porn gallery ora big infinite loop of trolls trolling other trolls, never really on healthy conversations...
