Fire Opal positioned himself behind Relampago and the others, horn at the ready. If necessary, he would use it, but he was still debating with himself which spell he should use. He settled on a spell that would recquire most of his energy. All he need to do is set the timberwolves on fire, and he would simply pass out for a few hours. He huffed. Hopefully it didn't come to that, but he would do it if he had to.

said Usaf a little irritated at his own ignorance circling down from the branch that he had been on.

"The SOP... Standard Operating Procedures...Of the Night Guard to attack wolves is to bait them with a few good fighters on the ground then have a few pegasi or talented ponies in the trees of the ambush site to take them out from the sky. Death From Above style."

Misty spoke up, a little nervous. "I think I could do the ambush thing." She really wanted to try. She might just end up failing, but she had to do something. They would need as many able bodied ponies as they could get. She just hoped somepony else would volunteer. She doubted she could ambush whatever was out there on her own.

Trench tightened the straps on his armor as he stepped forward. "I can take some punishment," he said, "and I can't stand just waiting aroundwhile my boys do all the fighting. I'll take the blunt."

Usaf went and gathered the little bit of his armor that he had left mainly the helmet and the chest guard. He had scratched out his rank and the Night Guard insignia and had painted on his winged dagger cutiemark with the words "Fly Fast, Aim High...Fly, Fight, Win" written around it on his left side and "Who Dares Flies, Wins the Skies" around it on his right.

"I will take the over head watch and the ambush, but i need at least one more and the rest of you go as ground diversion. And never cut off their retreat, an animal will fight more if it knows there is no escape."

Starbolt readied herself on top of the tree. She had a flame spell prepared.

Fae flew behind the timberwolves as they entered the outskirts of the camp.....

Usaf took to a good hiding spot in the top of a tree above were Trench was standing getting ready for the diversion.

"Ok let me take the Alpha Male of the pack but you need to look for targets that are important looking." Usaf said to Starbolt

 

OK pack of timber wolves, canine, predator, fixed on target, blind spot from above, conclusion Dive attack brake the back equaling instant termination or removable from combat. Alpha male leader locked on main target but more aware of surroundings must wait for it to engage ground forces. same weak point as normal timber wolf, timing is key wait to long and member is dead go to soon and I am dead. conclusion wait for first signs of engagement then proceed with attack.

"Alright, I will." Starbolt replied and readied her spell. "I've got maybe around 3 casts before I can't cast anymore. I could cast a fourth, but that's kind of dangerous......" She added.

Fae readied a spell and roots started to come out of the ground slowly and unnoticed.

The guard held the pony on him. The weight felt staggering for him to continue on, but he'd needed to stop this crazed pony. Blood started to drip from his hooves. He bit his lip as the pain grow stronger his muscles burning with pain, "Keep going, I won't stop!"

Right when the door was unlocked, a blue aura was covered by both ponies. Slowly they were pulled inside the room. A few guards were standing in front of Celestia as she had the face of indifference. Though she looked indifference, a sense of anger and doom emitted inside the room. She spoke, "Do you mind of asking me why are you here, Trench's men?"

Relámpago shook his head, though his plan wasn't exactly some sort of ambush. He was the leader of the group and decisions must be made by him, not by a ex-solider. Still, he held his tongue, because an argument could lead to a bigger problem. The wolves started to burst out. The howls came out, Relámpago stood in front of the lines. A big wolf came out, Relámpago eyes rose as the teeth came right at him. Relámpago grabbed the wolves face and held the wolf in a lock. His strength keeping the wolf from moving. The other wolves started to started to circle Relámpago as they were about to save the pack-leader.

(sorry about that my idea was a simple proposal but others started to act on it so I went with it)

Seeing the pack leader start the attack on Relámpago Usaf dropped out of the sky and drilled three of the wolves at the base of the neck then went for a kick at the leader hoping that it would hit something vital.

The wolves started to feel the pain of the kicks they whimper from them and growled at Usaf. They went for a attack at Usaf.

 

Relámpago instincts came into action as the kick came in. He pulled away from Usaf and yelled "What the hell are you doing?! Keep the other wolves at bay, this one is mine!" Relámpago was in that zone as all his attention was at the pack-leader. He increase the poer of the hold as the wolves struggle to pull out of it, slowly the wolf started to give in...

Usaf took to the skies again, and again landing more blows from above on the surrounding wolves. Usaf started quick powerful attacks of about 3 well placed strikes then would fly up to pick more targets taking care to not get in the way of the masked fighter. Usaf knew what it was like to be in the zone he had felt it many times in difficult air combat.

Starbolt fired one fireball towards the timberwolf that Relampago was grappling with.

Fae ensnared several of the timberwolves with roots and vines. She hid in a bush so they could not find her.

Starbolt looked around for important targets to set alight.

Misty did her best to follow Usaf's example. She rolled and dodged as best as she could. For the most part, she just ended up kicking timberwolves and avoid swipes and bites. She took a few hits, but kept airborne. The brutish creatures only focused on her for mere seconds. She had no idea what she was supposed to be doing. Gritting her teeth, she slammed into the head of one of the smaller ones. It fell back, but appeared still able to fight. Swinging out of the way of it's counter attack, she finished it off with a well timed kick. "Eh, that's one." Misty whimpered, swooping back up and around, kicking a few wolves in the process.

Relámpago once again, move out another attack. He was started to become annoyed by the attack from them. The wolves keep getting beaten up, but they still keep getting back up. They still feel they could win this battle. Their teeth snarling right at Misty and Usaf. They knew some other pony was there as well, but were unable to climb the tree.

 

Relámpago held the lock still, he saw the wolf was starting to give in. The struggling started to become less and less. It will be time soon to end this fight...

Something inside Misty began to change. She felt 'in the flow'. That was how to best describe it. She moved like fluid, dodging and kicking. She eventually downed another one. But she'd been too careless. One of the larger timberwolves struck her hard in the side. She lost her balance and crashed into the ground a few feet away from the fighting. With a bit of rage, she quickly got back into the air, ignoring the horrible pain in her side. At the very least, her ribs were bruised. But, that didn't matter. Her comrades were relying on her to help defeat these predators. The very least she could do was fight through the pain. Her kicks weren't as well timed now, though. She wasn't able to dodge as much, either. She knew somepony was going to yell at her for incompetence later, but all that mattered now was getting rid of the wolves. Her hooves struck the head of another wolf. It went down, making three killed. The pain was growing unbearable. Misty needed to go lay down and let the other's finish up, except she really didn't want to fail them. Swooping to the left, then to the right, she got in several good kicks. Sadly, her body was wearing out. She needed to rest, or else she might collapse and get killed by the timberwolves. This really meant a lot to her, so she just had to keep fighting.

Scout saw the wolves attack. He knew their weak spots. 'Neck, eyes, spine and leg joints are my targets' He thought as he landed several attacks on a timberwolf. Behind him one of the wolves pounced at Scout.

 

Starbolt saw the wolf jump. "Scout behind you!" She yelled as she fired a spell. The magic hit the wolf and it burst into flames, falling on the floor. Starbolt felt light-headed she knew she had maybe 1 more spell in her before she had to rest. "You okay Scout?" She called out to him.

 

Scout rolled out of the way of the flaming wolf. He knew it was no longer a threat and he attacked another. "Yeah I'm fine. Thanks!" He called back to Starbolt as he hit another wolf in the neck crippling it.

 

Fae rooted 4 wolves in place. She concentrated more and several vines wrapped around them, suffocating the wolves.

Harold began to cringe in anger. "Be wise!" Jack commanded, "She has a loaded deck!"

 

Ignoring Jack's logic, Harold spread his wings. "I'm tired of running, and I'm not backing down when so many depend on me!" He yelled, "A mulberry is a tree, Harold is a stalion, and when a pony goes through life doing what he's supposed to, he aint got regrets! So come and give me your best shot, Princess! I want to see if you're capable of fighting with honor!"

Trench had his back planted to the ground by a single wolf mounted on top of him. The beast had seperated from the pack to go after him, perhaps because he was old. The howls the creature made did not make avoiding his claws any easier.

Starbolt saw Trench in trouble from her spot in the trees. She was tired and the dome was sapping her strength. She concentrated and fired a rather large fireball towards the wolf. The timberwolf was hit and thrown off Trench and fell to the ground next to him. Starbolt's vision started to dim and she struggled to remain conscious. She fell of her perch in the tree and to the ground near Trench. Another wolf saw what happened and began to move towards the now unconscious unicorn. Edited August 21, 2012 by Mal (Starbolt)

Trench got back on his feet and stepped between Starbolt and the wolf before it could attack her. "Bad puppy," he said. He spread his base and braced for a fight. The letter straps on his chest plate had loosened in the last struggle, and the armor was now awkwardly dangling lower on his body.

The wolf became desperate to breath. Relámpago didn't care anymore. He pulled the wolf up into the high into air. He pulled the wolf down as and made the wolf collapsed on the head. The wolf yelped and ran away. The other wolves started to flee...

Seeing that the timberwolves were fleeing, Misty truly began to feel the pain in her side. She glided as best she could to the ground. It was a crash landing. She remained conscious, and didn't sustain too many cuts. None of her bones felt broken, and she might have been able to stand if she hadn't been fighting to stay awake. She watched as the others did their part to send the beasts packing. She let out a sigh of relief, glad that she had done her part. Misty looked towards the other ponies, hoping one of them could help her.

Fire Opal, staying in the background, not needing his magic, stayed with the group until he was sure that the wolves didn't launch a surprise attack. He watched the wolves as they fled in fear, making sure they didn't turn around.

Usaf followed the pack for a bit do ing a bit more damage to leave a bad imprint in the packs mind so that they would stay away longer.

 

10 dead 11 wounded, failure of the Alpha, no losses on our side, no advantage gained by the wolves, minimum of 4 days till next attack probably longer, time to prepare and smaller numbers, conclusion chance of successful defense is high.

 

"That was a nice bit of fighting out there. they won't bother us for a while. Trench what is going on with your plan to get this shield down, the wolves will be easier to fend off now but i would rather not keep fighting them for months. speaking of which we need to get rid of the bodies or it will attract other things. bury them or cook them we have to do something."

Scout made his way over to Starbolt and smiled, glad she was alright, "When I said climb a tree, I didn't say passout in it," he mumbled, battle-giddy. "You alright Starbolt?" he asked. That went much better than expected.
