Hey everypony :)

As you can see, I need some Metal songs which have some social criticism in it.

I need it for my English lessons and I would like to present a metal song, so I would be glad if you could help me out.

If you know some ballads it's also fine ;)

Turns out, I just posted one in the Metal Thread. It's by Molotov Solution and it's about the American government. Go see if it meets your criteria!

Hmm, you could have a go at Empire by Queensryche if Crispy's suggestion isn't what your looking for. It is a direct criticism of the American system of pumping billions of dollars into national defense and neglecting law enforcement. I wouldn't know about that personally, I don't live in America, but I think it might be what your looking for. I would have suggested any Rage Against the Machine song, but they have quite a large amount of explicit language, which wouldn't be great in English class.

Anyway, here's Empire:

I'll even post a different one in there that doesn't swear, now that I think about it. It's on the separation of church and state.

Most, if not all, metal talk goes in the metal thread. There's a convenient link in my signature, if you wanna check it out.

And if it's social critism you want, I'd recommend some Death (Everything past Spiritual Healing), or even some Megadeth. Though Dave Mustaine's commentary can be a little, one sided..

If you want my honest opinion, using metal music for English lessons seems a bit farfetched, and I'd advise against it. But that's just me.

As for recommendations, these two songs are the only thing that come to mind.

I think what you're looking for might be more prominent in the first link. =/

Punk might be the only genre more rife with social criticism. There are metric ass tons of metal that criticizes various social norms/institutions. Some standouts, in my opinion:

Rage Against the Machine's cover of Bruce Springsteen's classic "The Ghost of Tom Joad". It's even based on one of the most famous social commentary novels ever written, The Grapes of Wrath.

Marilyn Manson's "Lamb of God" critiques the use of mass media to glamorize death and further agendas.

Toubabo Koomi means land of the white cannibals

Lyrics:
We wanna see some blood
We need a new whore
We don't give a fuck
We just want more
Blood, we want blood

I'm gonna fuck the hole in Kennedy's head
Revolt, deface, resist
Push the button
Legalise freedom

Let's shoot the president
Rape the queen
And feel the flowers breathe again
Inside this dead machine

Swimming into nowhere
Thrill kill avenue,
Cutting her slowly
Liberty, she crawls to me

I slept the last mile on our way to endsville
Shove it inside her, spectro-trippin on
I slept the last mile on our way to endsville

Spread your legs, don't look at me
Cut me, rape me, make me free
Breeders screaming, dreaming bloodless
For the loveless

White sound, oceans of dreams
I won't be another number on the screen
Shhh, I wanna hear you scream
I won't be another number

White sound, jet black scream
Vomiting this cold mass of hate
I'm gonna push my love
Through her skull (x4)
Through her

I have heard abortion stories from the leather nun
Holding hands with dead girls, hiding from the sun
I did a line (x4)

The lines that define begin to gray and fade now
We shoot out the lights and swallow razor blades
I feel nothing for the meat that came before
Liberty, she crawled to me playing the whore

NB4 "Linkin Park isn't metal"

Maybe not, but consider their stark take on the Manhattan Project and what it meant for all of us. A few years ago I landed a job related to all of this, and even now I sometimes have nightmares. The very idea is absolutely horrifying, and its potentially unbalancing effects cannot be overstated.

Fear Factory's "Final Exit" is inspired by journalist/activist Derek Humphrey's book of the same name. It advocates the dignity and mercy of allowing a terminally ill person to choice the time and circumstances of their death. Obviously, the issue is highly controversial: whether or not a person has the legal (or spiritual) right to take their own life; to call for their own final exit. As a bonus, the song is uncharacteristically uplifting -- even beautiful -- compared to the rest of Fear Factory's work.

Disturbed has some political things, such as their song Deify which deals with people putting too much faith into one man, namely the president, when it's hardly what he does that matters. I also think it's a criticism of who was in office at the time. (See: George W. Bush)

Their song Another Way To Die is also a sort of political song talking about the practices of garbage and recycling and how it's hurting the environment. This is more of a media and ecosystem directed song though and may not be exactly what you're looking for.
