Could Twilight keep a secret from Celestia?

Ok, lets say somepony had something important to ask Twilight about, BUT they did not want Celestia to know about. They break down and ask Twilight to keep the secret but help with the problem. How would Twilight react?

Uh actually the reason whyCelestia knew about that was because Spike told her about Twilight was going crazy.

 

As for Twilight keeping a seceret from Celestia im not sure....maybe if it were one of the other mane 6 but not from anypony else.

I think it would have to depend on what kind of secret it was. Breaking the law? I don't think she would feel obligated to keep such a secret since she is a rule follower by heart and crossing lines doesn't sit well with her. If it was something about the princess? She would probably want to keep it to avoid anything awkward.

 

Heck, she might right a letter about it. XD

Today I learned that when somepony asks you to keep a secret, it's important to keep it in confidence. Just because some pony did something wrong it doesn't mean it's your responsibility to fix it. Nothing illegal. Something very personal and something that if Celestia knew would give her tremendous power over the pony in question(Far more so than she usually has). Something Celestia would very much want to have but would never really know to ask for specifically. And no this wouldnt be from a mane 6 pony.

From the way you phrased the question I have a couple of remarks.

 

First, as we've seen in Green Isn't Your Color, Twilight has no problems keeping a secret unless she believes that releasing the information would benefit both parties (or more specifically in that episode, to avoid the pain and negative feelings that accompanied each party's view of the situation).

 

Twilight has also been shown, specifically, to be sensitive about other ponies' private information (see Ponyville Confidential) as important to them, so it's very probable that if she understands that the information is in fact personal that she would definitely keep the secret. In fact because the information would cause harm she'd likely be more motivated to keep the secret and thus would do whatever she can to keep the secret.

 

So in short, yes. However I fundamentally see Twilight as a problem-solver, I'd think that the more she knew about the situation and its circumstances, the more likely she'd try to actually get the pony and Celestia together and mediate talks between them. Or try some magic...

If it was really that important I'm sure Celestia would find out. Besides twilight isn't very good at keeping secrets.. Like in green isn't your color ;p

If she couldn't keep a small secret like then. I doubt she'd be able to keep something from her mentor.

I really don't see Twilight keeping a secret from Celestia. I don't exactly see her to be the one to tell it out right away, but at the same time I don't see her keeping one either..

The type of secret depends on how she acts. If it's a secret that would rather not be let out, due to Celestia's Reputation at stake, she would keep it secret easily. (If Ponyville confidential taught her anything)

 

If it was a secret that she thought benefited Celestia being let out, but another made her promise to keep it secret, or a secret that changes her perspective of Celestia altogether, or makes her uncomfortable in her presence, she would have a lot of trouble. (She is shown to be afraid of Celestia at certain points when she fears she may have done something wrong. Holding a secret that changes Twilight's view of Celestia while in the presence of the Princess would cause her to feel very insecure. Celestia probably would sense it as well, and try to ask Twilight what was wrong, which probably would only worsen the situation.)

I think it would mostly depend on what you wanted to keep secret. If you told Twilight you were hiding a Balefire (Nuclear) bomb under Canterlot, she'd tell on you in an instant. But if you were just a common, petty thief, I think she'd do her best not too unless you started causing trouble.

Now that you bring it up, I'd really like to see an episode where Twilight has to keep a secret from Celestia.

 

I wonder what Celestia's keeping from HER. I never have trusted that princess. Where is she? What's she doing all day? Has she ever solved any problems in her own kingdom? I can imagine how the citizens of Ponyville might feel. "Hmmm, something weird or dangerous is rampaging into town again and the princess and her stallions are nowhere to be found...but that's okay, because we can always count on these SIX RANDOM CITIZENS!"

I think that she "could" but not really. Remember Philomena haha she struggled to keep it from coming to light. But considering all Celestia has done for Twilight and her family i dont think she could. I mean could you keep a secret from the person who raises the Sun everyday?
