gaming Torchlight II

Hello all! Didn't see a thread for Torchlight 2 yet, so thought I'd make one! Anyhoo for those of you who don't know, Torchlight 2 is an ARPG (Action Role-Playing Game) made by Runic Games. The levels are randomly generated using certain land pieces, so each time you play you'll get something new. There's a ton of loot and a lot of interesting creatures. I should also mention it has various forms of Multiplayer, which the original lacked. As I'm not very good at explaining the game much more than that, I'll just drop a link to a review that has a lot more info:

http://www.joystiq.c...light-2-review/

It has considerably more content than the original Torchlight, as shown by this chart:

So... ya. I think that's about it. :P Back to my original question, anypony else play this? If so, feel free to post pics of your character or anything else, I love a good discussion. ^_^

I've been playing through veteran with an engineer, and it's been very fun, albeit borderline easy. Both curiosity and a slight inferiority complex thirst for challenge led me to try out a berserker and embermage on elite, but those have toasted my cookies majorly, especially with the berserker. The thought of a 2H engineer on elite seems like complete suicide!

I could at least run away and shoot as an embermage, but I die so fast as a berserker, even when I've been putting 3 points into vitality each level and investing into defensive skills and armour! It's starting to make me rage. And when I run into a pack of enemies with one that ressurects, or a purple monster that divides? Goodness.

Still, I want to keep persevering. I've looked up a build or two for the engineer and berserker, but I don't think I'm going to follow them anymore. I want to discover the game out for myself, even if it means dying 5+ times to kill one pack of enemies. :)

I opted for a first playthrough on normal difficulty haha. xD Veteran sounds painful. :P Wonder what Game+ with a hardcore veteran character would be like.... Anyway I admire your perseverance lol. What level are you? I'm sitting on 22 or 23 at the moment. Not very high, but I've been playing a lot of other games in addition to TL2.

I haven't played yet, NOOO!

And I may not be able to since I can't get things on the Internet anymore.

But it looks great *sniffle*

I liked the first one.

At least I have Witcher 2 (finally!!!) to keep me busy...

D: That stinks. :( There's always hope! I wasn't actually crazy about the first one (might have been the class I picked), so I had fairly low expectations for this one. I'm very much pleased with it though. I still enjoyed the first one (didn't ever fully beat it, need to put that on my list of things to do), but not near as much as this one.

[Assuming ye art referring to myself] - Twould be glorious! I've been wanting to try the MP out as I'm not sure how everything works. I'm fairly certain I read that quests aren't linked though, so we'd quite possibly be in very different places. :P Anyway it'd still be fun I'd assume. I think I also read it supports up to 6 players, so if we got everyone together on there that'd be awesome (even if we don't have 6 people :P). I usually can't play during the weeks due to school, though I'm off next week so I have all that open.

[if that wasn't directed in my direction] - We still should anyway xD

Anypony else know about the hidden Minecraft weapons? Apparently, somewhere in the game, you can get swords from minecraft!

Think I heard that somewhere. I know that they exist but that's about it. :P Also I know that there's a Borderlands reference in there somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

Playing through a lower difficulty first seems like a really good idea, though. You can experience each act and experiment with your character's skills more. By the time you decide to try out veteran or elite, you're much more prepared. Veteran hasn't been too difficult (I've only died a few times. it's elite that been curb-stomping me), but it can still kill you if you're too reckless, so it feels like a fair challenge so far. Elite is just ridiculous..

So far I've made it to act 3 veteran on my engineer, at about level 36. I find myself dying so much more quickly now than I did at the beginning of act 2, but I'm learning to manage.

And I deleted my two elite characters. I figured that it would just be too aggravating and difficult, so I'm gonna stick to veteran.

My mind's been going kind of crazy lately with build ideas for each character, like a Spellsword type of mage that fights up close and personal (that fire hammer looks awesome) or a cannon/ robot engineer. They might not be viable on elite, but I think they could get by on veteran.

Multiplayer seems like it'd be a blast. I'd like to be able to play with 5 others at some point. :)

I don't know about weapons, but I read that there's an area called "Notch's Mine," as well as a Creeper enemy. I've yet to see them, though!

I've played a bit of Torchlight (not much), and it was okay, but I preferred D2. Items seemed to be more useful and have more impact on gameplay, all I ever found in TL was stuff I couldn't use, or gave me negligible bonuses. Granted, I only played for like and hour or two, but by then in D2, I'm already having a great time.

How would you say this compares?

They changed the equipment requirements so that you can fulfill either the stat or the level requirement to equip it (you don't need to fulfill both anymore). Along with this, there are pieces of gear that can only be worn by one of the four character classes. In this way, you can wear more powerful gear early if you know what stats you need, and can wear all but class specific gear by max level.

As for how useful the bonuses are, I'd say it depends on what difficulty you choose to play on. To my limited knowledge, in the top two difficulties, item bonuses like +Health, +Element Resists and -%Damage Reduction gain top priority, with regular stat bonuses' use being only to equip other gear. The Vitality stat, which gives a percent boost to your armour and block chance, becomes near useless unless you plan on equipping a shield, because armour stat itself gives a flat reduction to damage, not a percent based one.

That being said, I've been having a blast with it so far; each class is completely unique from the others (they no longer share any skills, unlike the first game) and playing on the second hardest difficulty has given me a fair challenge while not feeling too restrictive in terms of my skill and stat build.

You can download and install the demo version of the game for free, without having to create an account. The demo appears to be the full game, minus internet/LAN play, and limiting you to only the first act, so it's definitely worth checking out if you have even the slightest interest in it.

That's nice to know, that did get annoying. D2 requires you to fulfill both reqs, but most equipment only has a stat req, with only certain magical items having level reqs. And if you're build would want that item, you'll probably have the stat reqs covered by the time you're the required level.

See, in D2, you're getting equips that give +skills, +regen, life/mana drain, all kinds of fancy stuff, fairly early in the game. Element resist is generally a thing you throw on when needed, say going through an ice dungeon or something. Things that add a few points to a skill aren't always as important, either.

I'll definitely try it out, especially after D3 was so disappointing :(

I've been running across that stuff fairly frequently (or similar to it, if not exactly) and I'm only a little ways past Act 1 (lvl 23ish). Some of the socketable items also apply different effects depending on what you place it in (I.E. something that might give +5 electric armor if placed in armor may give +5 electric damage if placed in a weapon). Enchanters can also add more stats onto what you're already using if need be.

Really? Then it's exactly like Diablo XD

I'd heard it was basically a Diablo clone, but I didn't think they meant it that much. I'll try it a bit more, then.

Well it was made by some (or all, can't remember which) of the people who made Diablo 2, so maybe that's why they're so similar. :P Never actually played D1 or D2, need to look into that.

My embermage has been a blast to play since I started yesterday. I'm going to focus on skills that freeze, immobilize or stun, and I want her to be able to take a few hits, so I'm giving her a 2 Focus/3 Vit. stat build. Once I begin to see that vitality isn't raising block by .2% each point, I'm gonna start investing into dexterity for the dodge chance. :) I really wish I could have her use a sword of some kind, but then I'd be gimping myself damage- and utility-wise!

So far, the Wand Chaos skill has been really awesome; it seems to work with spells that use your wand's DPS for damage, and can give some nice effects like fear, shock and even a meteor strike! I think I'm going to work towards maxing that and Charge Mastery, then I'll focus on leveling my spells. If I'm going to be in full charge most of the time, then I won't have to worry about mana much, I hope?

My adventures are going well. I'm mainly focusing on the AoE abilities and a staff. I'm quite squishy, but I think the damage makes up for it.

Me at the moment (not liking the desert cosmetics >_>):

I actually think the desert clothes were pretty snazzy. I kind of wish I found more of them with the stats I wanted, at least until I find some engineer specific gear, but I've only found one shoulder piece. Lots of other class equipment has dropped for me though...

And your squishy? Have you even invested a single point into vitality? XD Although I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference. The monsters seemed to have become much stronger from the latter half of act 2 and on, like if I don't dodge their attacks I die really fast. The beginning of act 3 owned me, but now that I have a solid strategy against the monsters, I stand a much better chance. :)

I've never been a fan of desert themed attire much in any games actually, I just like the locations. :P I'm moderately squishy. Haven't died once yet, and can take a fair number of hits, but my health seems to drop fairly quickly if I'm not careful. I'm throwing points mostly in Focus, with the second most in Vitality. If it becomes much of a problem I'll start chucking more in Vitality than I have been I suppose.

I have yet to pick up Torchlight II. Been really busy with Mists of Pandaria. I'm hoping to eventually get Torchlight II when I get a chance, not sure when that will be though. However it looks really fun and I can't wait to eventually check it out.
