Trainloads of Moderators Episode I: A New Hope

As was alluded to in this thread I made a few days ago, the time has come to start rounding up our most recent batch of new recruits to the MLP Forums staff. We've given consideration to a vast number of users and feel that the candidate pool we've come up with is fairly good and well rounded.

 

While we're aware that many members are not always terribly fond of large-scale recruiting efforts, the addition of new staff members, to both replenish our ranks and to prepare us for the onset of season three, is necessary in order to maintain the same level of quality across the community that we are presently accustomed to. With that in mind, we ask you to please give the newbies the benefit of the doubt.

 

It is worth mentioning though. that if you do have any preemptive concerns regarding any of the people we've selected for staff positions you are very welcome to notify the MLP Forums administration of your concerns via a Moderation Dispute support ticket - these tickets are visible only to administrators; any concerns that you raise will be kept confidential.

 

With that said, this is only our first wave of new staff members - further reinforcements we be brought on in the near future once we've had a chance to break in our new recruits and get them accustomed to life as a moderator. Taking them on in relatively small groups will allow us to give each of them closer individual attention during their initial days as staff members, and ensure that we are able to properly monitor their initial actions to ensure that there are no missteps or grave mistakes.

 

Without further ado, these are the new staff members that have been added today:

• Chaotic Discord (Global)
• Chigens and Kay (Section - Beyond Equestria)
• Apocalyptic Chaos (Section - Octavia's Hall)
• Evilshy (Section - Roleplay World)
• (\SBB64/) (Section - Friendship is Magic)

At any rate, they are new yet - try not to break them; or us, for that matter. As stated, let us know if you have any concerns, or witness any untoward behavior. We'll be keeping an eye on the new folks to make sure that they don't break the forum - that is, after all, Scootacool's job.

LOL. Anyway, on topic. Congrats to all the mods on getting your status, I think you all deserve it for the most part. Now, onto my buddy :3

 

Chaotic Discord! Yes! You were one of the first to introduce me in my first thread, and since then we became good friends. As soon as I heard there were new mods incoming, I t’was like YOU (and a couple others, but I lost bets on them ) However, I’m pretty happy to hear that you became a mod. If anybody deserves it, you do. Once I knew section mods were being hired, I knew you would become one. What surprised me was that you became a GLOBAL MOD!? I mean what the fluck!? I just thought you would be the purple man, but it’s a pleasant surprise! MFW:

 

 

Anyway >< I’m getting too cheesy and fanboyish so I think I’ll just stop it around here. Again, congratulations on becoming a green member, and I hope you have success in your moderating times here on the forums

My only concern is the fact they may have a personality change. So far, only one person had had a slight change only. Which I am thankful for. Considering he is one of my friends.

 

I am kind of worried about all of these members since basically all of them are people I look up to.

Nothing too off at first glance, of course all are unproven though, so some time will need to pass for a more accurate picture.

 

Also PR note: This is actually episode 2 btw, and the Star Wars reference is incorrect, as A New Hope was Episode 4 of the series. Cutting fact checkers from the forum budget was not a good diea.

That's the reason why we're going to be bringing a fair number of folks in - spread the burden sufficiently so that it doesn't have a massive impact on any one person's ability to participate in the community. Additional staff members will also give the old staffers more free time to enjoy the community that we all enjoy so much.

Just because they become moderators doesn't mean they will post less in the forum.

If being a moderator means you have to be bored on a forum, i don't think anyone would have signed up for it.

 

Sure they might be a little concerned at the start, and they might have to deal with a problem or two, but i doubt that anyone of those will have a personality change

I'm particularly happy that Chaotic Discord and Evilshy received positions; they're both incredibly deserving, and I think they're the best on this new panel (of course, I'm sure the others will be just as quality moderators).

They are both great guys who loves to interact with members. They are both great shining examples of a goofy moderator. (And thats a good thing)

 

Arylett and Klopp would have been two other examples as well.

I think mods getting a little too serious is not as common as not posting as often.

 

It's a just don't see some mods posting anymore unless it's about the forums, and even then, I sometimes don't see them. :/

As a global moderator, you'd be expected to assist with reported posts spread about the entirety of the forum, and more or less just keeping an eye on things in general, sowing the seeds of harmony and peace wherever your path may take you.~Praprhasing Zoop, from once upon a fairytale

 

Seriously though, I'm very honored and humbled by the fact I was chosen. While it hasn't come out of the blue, I was surely not expecting a global position. I will do everything in my power to assist the board and uphold these duties, while trying my best to maintain a presence of discussion on the board. Other than my job I'll be starting soon, I have constant free time to try and accomplish both.

 

As an anecdote, and I only bring this up because it's something I'm all too aware of, I know exactly what members like @ are talking about in the 'personality change' that can occur with some people. I just want to mention that this is hardly the first staff position I've ever had, and that you won't be seeing this from me. If I do somehow become crazy with power, anyone has my permission to slap me to the moon :3

 

All in all, I think these other choices are great, and I hope the staff can feel more complete again with these additions.

So what about Kyronea? I never really saw him post at all and now he left. Ezynell, I haven't really seen around. Devin was just slowed, but he still posted. Scootacool I think I remember him making very long post before. Haven't really seen him all that much either, except for the technical side of the forum.

 

In fact, haven't really been seeing anyone who is an old time member been around and discussing...kinda weird...
