Greetings and Salutations everypony, and welcome to the story of the century! This story is filled with tragedy, comedy, horror and splendor!

It is the Origin of the Bat Ponies and I hope you are prepared!

Everyone knows the stories of how the original pony folk came about to Equestria. How most other species vanished or ceased to exist. Some species however, did not leave this plane. The Crystal ponies are a good example as well as the changeling species. So it brings to mind, what other type of pony folk are out there? I'll ask you a question everypony, have you ever wonder where Princess Luna's guards came from? I have the answer you see and that is where I shall begin our story! Now gather round and listen up, because I wont repeat myself.

 

The young mare began her story, levitating the book with her horn, "Our story begins with the winter's beginning. The winter was far more harsh than expected, the pony folk taking refuges in their own villages. The Pegasi, the Unicorns, and the Earth ponies had all forsaken the other tribes to parish under the storm. As they fended for themselves, the storm getting worse and worse, the other tribes soon began to die off. The Quagga tribe quickly retreated from the land and sheltered elsewhere. The Ceffaders or better known as the Ceffyl Dwr tribe had begun to adapt, turning into sea ponies. The Cartazonon tribe had tried to take shelter in caves though did not have much success. The Noogle tribe had survived, blending with the Unicorn tribe. The Unipeg tribe, otherwise known as the Alicorn tribe, had survived better than most, finding their own land to call their own. The last two tribes were the Bat Ponies and the Phooka ponies. Both had helped one another and soon became one powerful tribe. As the winter became colder and colder, the bat ponies began to dwell deep beneath the harsh cold, keeping warm and soon adapting to the dark and the diet they could find in the caves.

The winter soon calmed, but for the bat ponies, they still assumed the winter had gone on, never once leaving their caves again. The years passed and soon the above ponies founded Equestria with their reigning lord Discord. All was not happy and soon two alicorns for their native land had arrived, defeating Discord and assuming the titles of the Rulers of Equestria. The lighter, more pink sister Celestia ruled the day while the darker more purple sister Luna ruled the night. Every day Celestia would raise the sun and every night Luna would raise the moon. Everything was in harmony. However, soon, Luna became bitter. Every night the ponies slept and did not enjoy its sweet embrace. This angered Luna and soon she was overcome with her anger. As the tension rose, she finally snapped, refusing to set the moon and let the sun rise. The two rulers, sisters by birth clashed, resulting in the land to shake and tremble before their might. The Ruler of the night Luna had finally had enough of the daylight and rebelled against her sister Celestia; the ruler of the day. As Luna, now named Nightmare Moon rallied up her troops, she asked the aid of the forgotten species known as bat ponies. The bat pony queen agreed, allowing her own troops to support Nightmare Moon.

As the troops began their assault, Celestia had begun her assault with her own troops.

The battle was gruesome, many ponies died in the battle. As Nightmare Moon was almost defeated, the queen of the bat ponies came into the fray. Knowing a dark and powerful spell, Nightmare Moon and the queen both became one being of night, thus giving them the edge. However, Celestia had her own trick up her sleeve. She used the Elements of Harmony, overpowering the two and sending the two beings into the moon, not knowing that she had imprisoned both the bat pony queen and her beloved sister.

Many years passed and soon the bat pony kingdom needed a new ruler. They appointed the Princess as the ruler and soon the land prospered. The Bat ponies stayed to their own kingdom, which was now deep underground away from everypony.

As the years went by, a prophecy soon came into the world. Nightmare Moon would return in a thousand years along with the Bat Pony Queen.

As the bat ponies prayed for their Queen to return, the Princess, now a Queen, continued to keep their kingdom alive and well. Soon however, a thousand years had gone by, and the two rulers were freed. Still being combined, they began their assault once more, only to be defeated by the new wielders of the Elements of Harmony. As they separated, the Queen vanished from Luna's side and back into her kingdom only to see her kingdom ruled by her daughter. With this in mind, she regained control of her kingdom, and ventured to her husband's side, knowing he would pass soon. Day after day, she stayed by his side until he faded from the world.

The bad news was soon public; the Queen's husband had left this world. Grieve stricken, the Queen enclosed herself into her chambers, allowing her offspring to deal with the kingdom until she could grieve no more.

 

This is the origins of the bat ponies and how we survived." The mare breathed, tired from reading the story. "Alright little ones, it is time for bed my dears" She cooed to the little ones. The little colt huffed and flapped his wings, causing a horrid tune with the air currents. The mare could only smile and pat the young bat pony on his head, sending them off to their beds. She gave a nodding sigh of relief, trotting up to the royalty's chambers. The mare knocked calmly upon one of the doors labeled 'Prince' and awaited a response. With a muffled groan, the Prince answered with a solemn, "Present Lady Sea Salt." The mare nodded and trotted along, knocking on the younger princess's chambers only to receive a cherry reply, "PRESENT LADY SEA SALT!" She blinked and trotted to the last chamber on the floor; Princess Hallow Skye's chamber. The Princess opened her chamber doors and smiled faintly, cooing her response, "I am present Lady Sea Salt. I hope you have a wonderful sleep. " Sea Salt smiled with glee and nodded, taking flight to her own chambers.

 

She stretched her long, webbed wings and flipped her hair, cascading the pink locks over her shoulder. She closed her red hued eyes and sighed, gliding back into her bed, the covers surrounding her lean body and securing her warmly. "The sun is coming up yet again...Yet I do not hate it, I want to embrace it.....Hm?" She glanced over towards the window and sat up, noticing it was open. She climbed out of her comfy bed and trotted to the window, curious to see why it was open. What her eyes beheld down below caused her to shriek in fright, falling backwards unto the cold ground. "No..No...Oh no...This can't be." She uttered, her voice trembling and choked. The guards down below had been slain, their bodies covered in blood. She gulped and dashed out of her chambers, flying through each and every room, trying to find survivors. Whimpering echoed through the halls and she stopped, creaking open the cabinet where the sound was coming from. Her sister was huddled in the cabinet, whimpering. Startled, she asked what was wrong. "Sister, my darling, what has happened?" Her sister shook her head, wiping off the blood from her face. "...." Her eyes seemed dim and dead, almost asif she had lost hope. Startled, Hollow picked up her sister and flew into the safe house, only to be knocked down by the assailant. Dazed and confused, she scrounged to try and pick up her sister, only to be hit in the face and sent backwards even more. "Ugh.....mmmj...." The pony that had done such a horrendous crime was non other than her personal guard, Abyss Armor. He gave a wicked grin, his sharp fangs clearly showing. He was unicorn half breed, his father a bat pony and his mother unicorn. He flipped his hair, the silver locks now a murky, red stained hue. Angry and full of a seething hatred, she shouted out to the stallion, her words full of spite, "WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING? WHY ABYSS?" He frowned and stared directly at her, his piercing blue eyes glowing with power. "Fool, I am tired of how this Kingdom is never seen or heard of. We are stuck in the old times and its time for a new ruler. I shall be the new king of Eternia!" He chuckled and nickered at her teasingly. "Oh, and don't think the Queen will help you, she's a bit tied up at the moment." He cooed. She roared and sent a crimson beam of power at the stallion only to be sent back at her and blow her into a tree. "Ahhh...mmn..." She whimpered, her sight dimming. He trotted up to her and picked her up using his magic, his eyes glowing with a seething hatred. "I hope you enjoy your new life Princess HallowSkye, because you'll never be the same again!" He barked, casting a spell unto the Princess. She screamed out in pain and fainted, her body beginning to alter and change. Her mane became lighter in hue yet shorter, her body twisting and turning into the size of a simple earth pony. Her horn bursted into a blast of shards, vanishing as well as her jewelry; She looked like an average bat pony. Groaning in her slumbered state, her hoof tapped Abyss, causing him to scowl. He kicked her into the nearby woods and flew off, assuming his new position. Eternia had been taken over within a day's time. The future of the kingdom was now unknown and no one could save them.
