A drawing I made for my mother

So after I told my mother about the whole brony-thing, and showed her my drawings, she asked for a drawing of herself... As a pony~

This is the result of quite a bit of experimentation, as well as some old stuff~

 

 

What do you think?

I spent somewhere around 6-10 hours on it... I didn't really pay attention to the time!

What's new: This was my first attempt at a kinda realistic wing, as well as somewhat realistic clouds and hair~

 

I've also gotten it printed on some matt photo-paper... I think it looks way better on that than on the screen~

 

Oh, and I made a gif that kinda shows how/what order I drew it in... Not 100% correct, but you can see what some layers did! Have a look if you want~

 

 

As for why she's got different-coloured eyes:

She's got blue eyes, but she uses coloured lenses that makes them brown... And this is kinda joking at the fact that she's lost one a few times, leaving her with 2 different colours~

Righteous. Pretty rad that your mom is down with bronies and you being one, but it's even more awesome that she would want to be ponified. Heterochromia was my first guess as to why she had different colored eyes but it's a fairly rare condition.

 

Did she request to be a pegasus or was that your call?

I haven't converted her or anything... I simply told her about it, and she seemed partially surprised, and partially interested in the whole thing. When she asked for this drawing she also said that it was "for my sake."... So I thought "I've watched a guy draw some amazing stuff. I'll try some of the tricks he does, and I'll amp up the quality and style to surprise her!".

You can check my dA - you'll see this is quite the leap from my earlier stuff...

To be honest: I never watched or used a tutorial for the shading... Only partially for the mane (which I in the end ended up using something I figured on my own).

I simply watched

, and tried out some of this amazing artists tricks in my own way, and I think it ended up really good~

So sorry: I have no tutorials! Just watch the video and see what he does...

She didn't ask to be a pegasus - that was my idea~

I'm not sure if she even knew there were different ponies at the point she asked for it... I just thought about what she's like - calm and caring, and >kinda< raging when behind the wheel... So the freedom of being able to fly struck me as a good idea~ (+ It gave me a reason to draw clouds and the sky as the background...)

She's a foot-therapist, so I thought hooves and plants, flowers or herbs... Also why her pony-name's Healing Hooves~

And her clinic is integrated with a flower-store!

I made it using one of the cheapest Wacom Bamboo-tablets~

As for what software I used, I used Paint Tool SAI... As for how I did it, it's pretty much my experience with computers and tricks/techniques I've learned through that... On paper I suck~

Wow, that's really excellent work there, it looks really great. The only slight problem I can see is that the line by her nose looks like it could either be her mouth or a nostril, but other than that I think it's fantastic.

I'm sometimes amazed at how fast I got to this point... I've only been drawing since early June...

If you check that link out, it's like a timeline for almost everything I've drawn so far since I begun~

Also, the main thing I've learned is that patience is the key... The longer I work on it, the more complex I can make it~

If you want realistic, it's very helpful to use references. I used to think I can draw great clouds until I realized they looked like crap because I wasn't referring to real actal clouds to base off of.

It's comments like these that makes it worth it (as well as my mothers reaction to it)! Usually puts a bigger smile on my face than the Smile Smile Smile-song~

I'm thinking of maybe doing a canon pony next!
