Actually, skilled soldiers use the shotgun all the time. The rocket launcher takes a while to reload, so they generally exhaust all the loaded rockets, then whip out the shotgun and finish off their target. And pyros also use the shotgun frequently, moreso against enemy pyros, but they also use them at mid range against targets that they can't get too close to due to something like a sentry.

 

Probably just me, but I barely see a Soldier ever use his secondary before, and seeing a Pyro holding a shotgun is even rarer. Personally, I just use the Reserve Shooter (if not the Detonator) to damage midair or airblasted opponents when Axtinguishing is difficult.

It's doubly satisfying when you can get them while using the Backburner.

 

I like the Backburner for two reasons: I have a Strange version of it and the ambush potential is terrific. It's a good tool for teaching you to play smart. The weapon is deceptive insofar as you would think M1+W would carry the day -- but such is not necessarily the case. Unlike the Degreaser, you can't quickly switch over to your secondary or melee weapons, which means Heavies and stronger classes will carve you up if you run right at them. The real trick is sneaking up on classes and subsequently making them panic. Once they start to run, their backs are exposed. Presto! You've got a lot of cooked meat.

 

The air blast cost is such that it comes down to being circumspect in its usage. So long as you have a sufficient backup weapon (i.e., Shotgun) and know where ammo spawns, you can stay a mobile threat. The drawback is most apparent when a bunch of Soldiers and Demos are running around, or if the other team has a steady rotation of standard Ubers.

To be honest, I was probably biased on why I disliked the Backburner. It was because most people misuse it for the wrong thing. Technically, the Backburner is supposed to require Pyro to be sneaky as Spy, and get behind the enemy lines and ambush.

SOOOOOO... Aparrantly this topic has gone completely unnoticed for me for over like... ever since I got into the forums. I have been desperately searching for bronies who were at least SLIGHTLY in competitive tf2, and I think I found them. I would just like to hang around with fellas like you guys, doing random stuff in pubs and lobbies, doing some pugs, mixes and maybe even scrims (and of course screwing around in mumble)! I don't know if you guys are doing this already since I only just jumped into this thread, but if you are, I'd love to join in. If you aren't, why don't you come join me? :3

 

Please enlighten me guys :c. I would really like to do some cool stuffs with bronies. Up until now my team has been scorning me for being a brony (thought disdainfully tolerating me) and I would like to change that...

Fo, sho! I usually play australianlongshootman in highlander matches sneepy is best class tied with soldier, because rocket propelled explosive leaps is IMO the best thing in tf2.

Well, Eventide is a 6s team made up of people on this forum, and I personally run a highlander team and a 4v4 team as the only brony, but considering I technically founded both teams and we were mostly all a group of friends prior to forming it, we don't have any kind of friction in that respect.

If any of you other bronies want to play, feel free to add me on Steam (same username as above). I was kinda bummed when I learned that the PoniArcade servers weren't even working. Ah well, destroying anonymous people on the intraweb gets me pumped.

Powerups? What are you talking about? There's only extra weapons that you can get from the drop table and, of course, hats.

OOH! SOMEONE NEW*! I'd love to teach you about Tf2, I am trying to develop this method to get people to become good in tf2 really quickly. I added you, I can play almost anytime. It just depends on what timezone you are in. (I hope not america... THE LAGS :c)

By the way, noob would be an overstatement. I use the buckshot approach. If you fire enough bullets, you don't have to aim.

I wasn't shooting too accurately with the sniper when I first started using him. I generally use the huntsman now or go for fully charged bodyshots with the rifle. I am getting better at headshotting though.
