I haven't played TF2 in a couple of weeks now, but I love the game.

What is everypony's greatest accomplishment in TF2? I consider me crafting the Spine Twisting Skull as my greatest moment.

I think I may have 2 or 3 refined if anypony wants to trade for them.

I could say unboxing an unusual after opening ~25 crates as my greatest accomplishment, but it really, really isn't. I guess it is in TRADE Fortress 2, but TEAM Fortress 2? Absolutely not.

THIS. RIGHT HERE. Is my greatest accomplishment. Still, to this day, the best kill I pulled off in such an incredibly tight situation. A shame I didn't record it in full 1080p...

I never used keys for unboxing. Then holiday 2012 came along and I caved and bought a naughty and nice key.

The nice key got me a lowish-tier unusual.

The naughty key got me a strange fastive ambassador

I guess gaben is fond of me.

I sure love TF2. One of my favorite games ever. My favorite class is the spy and I've also been getting more into sniper lately.

I sometimes also like to wear my gibus and pyrovision goggles just for the lols. tongue.png

Heya TF2 fans! Has anyone else noticed how many bronies play this game? It seems like every match, I see at least one person with a pony avatar, name, or both.

In terms of the game, I just finished a really nice run where I beat my personal best with Soldier and made 14 kills in a life. I'm using Black Box, Gunboats, and Escape Plan. I used to really suck at that class, but I realized my problem was that I didn't think before I fired and would misjudge distances, movement, and so on, so that I'd miss my targets a lot of the time and have to reload too soon. The problem is even worse when you have something like Liberty Launcher or Black Box that has one less rocket. At least I'm finally getting better. When I finally left the game, I was top score on both teams. Earlier though, there was one soldier who had me beat, and honestly he was probably a better player than me as he was a much better rocket jumper. I did get a great kill on him though where he shot at me, and I rocket jumped up to dodge his shot, and while in the air, I fired down, killing him with a direct hit. Twice, I dominated him as well.

The big downside is that Soldier is slow and an easy target for a lot of classes. I'm glad I have Escape Plan for that though.

Anyone want to play sometime? I need some brony TF2 friends.

You are a kickass scoot. Good Scouts are probably the most dangerous class, and they take a lot of skill to play. My problem is that I can't aim well while moving. I don't know why; I guess I just have terrible reaction time or something.

Oh boy...I spent way too much time on this game. At the moment, I have 1000+ hours logged in, and that's just...sad.

I have enjoyed it though. :P At one point, I owned almost every genuine weapon in the game, and I sold those off for buds (and then sold those for real life money).

My current thing is collecting vintage weapons. I have almost every one of them, with the exception of the Vintage Choncheror and the Vintage Fan of War. (You could count the Vintage Big Kill and the Vintage Shortstop with the "to-get" list, but there are only three of the former and 1 of the latter.)

I'd like to get some buds just for bragging rights along with an unusual helm, but I don't know how to go about that without spending real money. I'm fine buying a key from the store every so often, but I'm not spending 35 dollars on some damn ear buds that I wouldn't buy IRL (they hurt like hell).

Right now I'm collecting one of every piece of equipment and turning duplicates into scrap so I can build up on metal, but as of now I only have 2 refined. Maybe I should just breakdown all the things I never plan on using. I can't think of any other way to get cool items.

I was playing lobbies numerous times as I want to attempt to get into competitive TF2. One guy, if I recall correctly, for some reason, whined at me and said anyone can play Scout. The answer is: yes, anyone can play Scout IF they put tons of practice into it just like with Soldier, Demo, etc.

The reason why I mainly play Scout was due to MvM. Need to get all dat cash. tongue.png Since then I've been playing Scout a whole lot. I'm not fantastic as Scout, but then again, you need to be attempting to dodge all forms of threats while at the same time attempting to pick off lone enemies.

You gotta let your movement help you aim as well. If you move in one direction but turn the other direction to aim at an enemy, you're making it difficult for yourself to aim.

I've just really been lucky, I guess, with the fact I had TF2 for so long, so I can play any class decently due to the amount of time I've been playing this game, lol.

Anyway, I would say that playing MvM as Scout is a great way to get better at it. Better if you play expert, if you're brave enough.

Something that I did a couple years ago was use Black Box. It's fine, I guess, if you don't care about rocket jumping. Now, however, I use standard Rocky because the +1 clip size from the Black Box is incredibly useful. Especially since I have an extra rocket to be able to maneuver quickly to get an advantage on enemies or to simply get away. Because of this, I use Gunboats all the time. It's the class I use to play more often than any other class, but I steered towards Scout quite a lot because you get things done fast as that class.

If you want, you can add me. My Steam name is Tootiboy. I usually play on public servers, since my main goal in TF2 is... lo and behold... have fun! tongue.png

I love TF2 trading so much :D

Picked up 5 Steam Games today for around, I wanna' say... 9 keys (both keys and items worth).

Also, my offer is still open from my last post. I am a good supplier, I can get most things (nothing like unusuals or buds :/ )

Hit me up if you need stuff. :)

I think that Scout has the greatest range in terms of skill, in that I can annihilate Scout players left and right as Soldier if they're bad, and if they're good I can't touch them with anything save Engineer. What you were talking about in terms of aiming and movement makes sense. I have my mouse sensitivity up, which I'm guessing is a good thing. I just can't hold the reticle on target as I'm moving, much less trying to jump. I miss some seriously easy shots as well, and it bothers the living daylights out of me. I get pretty invested in games too, so when I don't do well I start to beat myself up over it, and that makes me play even worse.

The -1 clip on the Black Box is a pain, but I stink at rocket jumping too. It feels so random to me. I run forward and fire a rocket as I crouch jump, and sometimes it propels me nice and far, and other times, I must screw my timing up, and I just do a little hop. Nothing is more embarrassing as Soldier than to screw up a rocket jump in front of people. Now if I could rocket jump consistently, there wouldn't be a Demoman in the game who could beat me unless he was some sort of Loch and Load sharpshooter. I just love Black Box for the healing. I try using Direct Hit every now and then, usually after I leave a server where World's Best Soldier has just been mopping the floor with one, but I just can't get the timing right and can never hit anyone. I'm so used to firing at the ground in front of an enemy, that the small blast radius screws me over most of the time. Actually, I have a lot of rocket aiming problems. I've noticed that I still have a lot of freak-out moments where I just fire at where the enemy is instead of where he's going to be, and I overestimate the rocket blast radius a lot as well. On the whole I feel like an embarrassment to the TF2 community. I'd just like to get good with Soldier. The time I've spent playing Soldier is staggering compared to the other classes, yet my top point score is only 16.

Even though I've been playing Scout a whole lot, I also miss easy shots, lol. Try to pick out your enemies carefully. Go for the ones who are out of position, where their teammates will struggle to help that guy out. Focus on slow moving targets as well as you're starting out. In time you will get used to mostly keeping the crosshair on your enemy as you move about, but it does take a ridiculous amount of time to be that good. Also, yes, boosting the sensitivity is a good thing. I usually think that if you can swing 360° with one swipe of a hand, you have a good sensitivity level, but it's something that's specific to each and every person. You have to find what suits you and you alone. Sniper is a good class to try to sort out sensitivity levels. If you struggle to score headshots, adjust the sensitivity level.

A great map to sort out your rocket jumping is jump_4starters. I highly recommend that map to practice rocket jumping, but you need a ton of patience as it take an incredibly long time to get through. One day I went crazy and went on for nine hours almost constantly. Got from being stuck on B2 to being stuck on C2. If you go on that map, you have to start on A, because B is harder than A; C is harder than B, and D is harder than C. Just being able to rocket jump upwards help you a great deal as soldier since you can pinpoint where the enemy is heading, and deal splash damage on groups of people. If you think about it, if you shoot horizontally rather than straight down from the air, there's a good chance you'll miss. Not so if you take to the air and slam a rocket at your enemies.

How do you go about getting the rare items? Right now I'm just trying to stock up on refined metal in the hopes of eventually having enough to buy an unusual hat. Is there a better way?

How do you go about getting the rare items? Right now I'm just trying to stock up on refined metal in the hopes of eventually having enough to buy an unusual hat. Is there a better way?

It's not exactly something you should be concerned about, but I understand. Feeling poor and Irish feels bad, but when you have plenty of hats and miscs, you'll feel tons better than owning one simple expensive item. The most basic way to earn is by scrap banking. Selling a specific unique weapon for a scrap metal. That's as far as I'd personally go with trading. I haven't gone through with this though because in my opinion, 1-1 trades are best trades. I don't care for value.

Also, a best bet is to just allow the items you do have display your skill level and keep on playing. When you have one refined, you can pretty much trade that off for a hat or misc. Imho, the expensive items are way too overrated. Buds is the only decent one because it simply states you love music, in a way. Then again... ~30 keys (is it?) is way too expensive. Just take pride in the items you earn, even if they're not all that expensive, is the way to go.

Unusual hats... it's pretty tricky, tbh, to understand what one hat is worth when it has the status of being unusual. I managed to get my own unusual after uncrating about 25 crates (not counting the ~10 crates I opened before I had a mass uncrating of 40 crates). I think generally, unusuals are more expensive than buds. I'd say the very politely named 'cancer unusuals' are somewhere like a buds, then as you get better effects and a better hat, the price increases rather drastically, but I'm not sure in what way it actually increases. I've never cared about unusuals, so I don't really have an understanding of the pricing for unusuals. You could basically sell one unusual for $50 if it's a 'cancer', and easily go above $100 - if someone is actually willing to put real money into it - for a decent unusual.

In a way, you could go for a gamble and buy keys from tf2shop.net, buy crates if you need more from the Steam Community Market, and attempt to find an unusual, which I would severely disapprove of. If you get lucky, you could sell the hat for credit on your Steam account, so you're basically getting free money at this point, then but more keys and crates and stumble upon another unusual and still have money left over. Or you could be unlucky and get nothing out of it: money wasted.

Here's what I don't understand about the TF2 economy: First, the number of buds in the game is finite, and given that at this point, no one would use buds to rebuild hats, we can assume that the number of buds is also fixed which would mean the value is fixed as well. Secondly, unusual hats are obtained mostly from crates, which are infinite. This means that the number of unusual hats is also infinite, which should lower the value on that fact alone. The problem is that unusual hats are worth more than buds, probably based on the illusion of rarity. It's like using gold to buy an equal amount of copper. Thirdly, keys, as far as I know, can only be obtained from the TF2 store, and for this reason, each key already has a value, albeit a monetary one in actual money. Yet for some reason, keys seem to be the base form of currency. I can understand using refined metal, as it is obtained through random drops, but keys can only be bought. Why then are keys a form of currency? If I wanted to buy something based in value in keys, I'd have to buy a number of keys and then trade. Why not just list everything in terms of dollars, since in the end, that's what's used to buy the keys which are then traded? It would make more sense to strictly use metal and dollars in my opinion.

Also what does cancer refer to?

Cancer simply means the effects that no one really wants - like nuts and bolts, or massed flies. No one really wants them, but gets them anyway just to show off that they have an unusual.

I actually liked how keys were used as currency, as it used to be another step up from refined metals. It's simply used to compact a number of refined to save space in your backpack. I think that's ultimately why it's used. Also, keys are a way to get instant refined to trade away for various other things. However, now the corrupt greedy sons of b****es decided to make them hilariously expensive.

Oh, and something amusing: if you ever want a botkiller, don't get tickets and waste your time trying to get the botkiller yourself. Just be lazy and buy the botkiller from someone, because botkillers are incredibly cheap compared to buying 3-6 tickets for one tour. That's something that depresses me. After investing in tickets and taking time to slave away for a botkiller, what you get isn't worth the effort at all and you lose a ridiculous amount. It shouldn't be that way, but depressingly it is.

Well, now I guess you've seen my skill first hand, or should I say my lack of skill. Seriously, it's running into people like you that shows me just how futile my efforts are and make me want to quit the game.

Just saying: you were on top of the scoreboard.

I am nowhere near the best either, and when I encounter someone much better than myself, it's quite disconcerting but it at least drives me to try to get better.

The last time I played TF2 was, like, two years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was playing 2-Fort and I was a engineer. I was going around collecting guns for metal. Then I hear a faint heavy. He was singing: "yaaaah duh duh duh, come sing with me, yah duh duh duh duh". When suddenly I hear "OHNADDA". then just pure silence. Then, out of the silence: " I never really was on your side *laughs really hard and snort a couple times* ". Those were the days. :)

I was on the top of the scoreboard on a team filled with terrible players. It doesn't make me feel better to surround myself with dwarves and claim myself to be a giant. The only thing I could do right was snipe, and Machina helped a lot in that regard. There were bodyshots kills I made that would not have killed with the stock weapon. When it came down to actual fighting, I could barely hit a thing. My Soldier performance was awful, and I've devoted so much time to the class it's a miracle of nature that I still suck at it.

Also I don't see how you or anyone else could be that good with an Eternal Reward Spy. Every time I try at it, I barely score a backstab before getting killed. I try the stock watch, Dead Ringer, and Cloak and Dagger, yet I always fail. I screw up backstabs all the time as well. It takes so long to uncloak, that I'm spotted most of the time, or my target serendipitous turns around right as I try to make the stab - that and I'm always spy checked. I hate playing Spy. All it does is remind me how bad I am at the game.

I often feel so out of place, like in the unpopular crowd while everyone else is in a special club, looking down at me and laughing.

Thing is with Eternal Reward, once you score a backstab, you're swimming along. In my opinion, the best loadouts for spy is Eternal Reward with stock watch, or stock knife with Dead Ringer. I don't use the latter as I'm not a fan at all of Dead Ringer, and the former is challenging, which I like.

What you need to do is single out the ones who are alone and oblivious to almost everything that's around them. At times, I can decloak right behind an enemy and score a backstab because they're so deaf, lol. Sometimes I can't help but feel as though the battlefield is my playground at times.

You have to be planning ahead. You need to think of when to retreat and how much damage you might receive until you are safe. You get used to it over time, but just enjoy the game for what it is. I never played the game to get better at it. I played the game because it's so fun.

@Sauce

This thread was locked and retained for archival purposes after the introduction of MLP Forums' official Team Fortress 2 server. Now that the server is defunct and the associated forum has also been axed, I'm reviving it. My apologies for any confusion, and thank you for taking the time to search for a TF2 thread prior to creating yours.

Oh my, this thread got revived?

~yay.

Looks like I'll be back at posting all sorts of tf2 related nonsense again!
Shame that Roop doesn't play TF2 much nowadays, but there's always a chance.
Rook, my other TF2 friend whom I met here still plays it at times and he's being a boopy doopey head.

Announcer: Let the games begin!
