gaming [Gaming] The Team Fortress 2 Thread

(edited)

If someone could be so kind I need some help with something Team Fortress 2 related. For the longest time I've been a video game console gamer. When it comes to video game consoles you don't really need to bother with finding a server to play a multiplayer game online with. That's always provided.

When it comes to PC games like Team Fortress you need to search for servers. I was online the other day and discovered an entire list of Team Fortress 2 Brony servers. My issue is I don't know how to search for these servers. I know on the Team Fortress 2 menu screen you can search for servers but when I tried punching in different server numbers (Brony ones mostly) they wouldn't pop up.

Could someone explain to me how to use the search menu on Team Fortress 2 so I can start playing with other bronies?

It's been some time since I played TF2, but if I remember correctly, the server search thing has a "tags" field. Perhaps try searching for "brony" in the tag field? If that doesn't work, I guess you'll have to scroll down the server list and manually pick one out. Blame Valve's laziness when it comes to updating the server browser for that. :P

Seeing this thread open again is kind of a (pleasant) surprise to me.

Meh, anypony know any good servers these days?

As Roop suggested, there is a search bar, where you can try searching for tags.
Try using a few brony n' pony words to find your interests!

@Roop

Well, I'm not entirely sure about your preferences but I like Rocket Blast servers, and there's also some other servers I know of which have a bit of more bronypotential but as far as I know only have a hale and a trade server.

Sniper's fun! One of my more played classes, definetly up there amongst the top 3.

But not the best class. All of them are best class!

Yeah.. Fun times in TF2:

The enemy team was probably traumatized for life because of all the mini sentries. We won eventually, but there was only five engineers when that happened.

Ah, TF2, my favorite multiplayer game of all time.  I've spent about 620 hours of my life having fun playing this game.  My favorite servers have always been the fun servers, like the SLAG Gaming servers, as well as the pony servers.  My favorite class has always been the Soldier, followed by Engineer, then Demoman.

Lately I've been trying to improve my aim in Team Fortress 2. I just became a PC gamer about a week ago. When I played on systems like Xbox or Playstation I tended to go for the FPS games. I had nice aim but for some reason that means nothing now that I am a PC gamer.

I just got into Team Fortress 2 the same time I became a PC gamer and I play as the scout class. My problem is as stated above my aim is horrible. Don't get me wrong, I do get kills as the scout but that's only sometimes.

-----

These are tips that I've been given on the Steam forums:

1) Mouse sensitivity: I've been told that having my mouse on a high sensitivity will cause my aim icon in the center of the screen to fly by my foes when I'm trying to hit them. Folks told me to put the mouse sensitivity as low as I can but not too low to the point that I need to drag my mouse across my desk to hit folks in the game.

2) Strafing: I've been told to not use my mouse in a head to head gun fight unless I really need to. instead, set my crosshairs at a level where when I pass a player the crosshair will go over them and only use the A and D keys to strafe back and forth. By doing this I have a bigger chance of hitting my target but I obviously have to time my shots.

-----

If anyone would be so kind to help me out, how can I improve my aim as a scout?

Lumen, I simply must ask out of curiosity, how can you play with that field of view?

For me it looks horrifying and terrible, with the arms being stretched out as far as they possibly can get - it doesn't feel realistic nor appealing to look at..what's the purpose?

Myself, I have currently..uh..

2260 hours played.

I have a life..no really, I mean it guys!

I require assistance!

I need a new name for my Strange Bat. As it stands, its name is Babe Ruthless, but alas, Babe Ruth famously played for New York, not the Scout's hometown of Boston! (Well, actually...)

As such, I am imploring you, fine people/entities of these forums, to engender a NEW name for my marvelous bat!

You know what you doing! Take off every Zig! Come up with a new, awesome, and creative name!

Of course you don't HAVE to, but still, I DID implore you...

Fledermaus, German for "bat". Also, you don't remember Babe Ruth playing for the Red Sox? You could go with the Boston Mangler, named after the Boston Strangler. Good Will Bunting is also a worthy pun.

Well..  I like to think that it takes less space on the screen. I'm not sure if this is actually true, but it doesn't bother me at all so why not. Sometimes with rocket launchers I might even disable the viewmodel fov completely because the viewmodel is so big.

I don't play scout too much, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut...

Mouse sensitivity is an important component indeed, just find one which suits you. If you can make a consistent, controlled 180 flick then you've found the sensitivity for you.

Then you want to use A and D to strafe into foes to land successive hits.

The problem is to get used to the gameplay itself - you need to predict where your foes are going to go, how they might avoid your attacks, whether they are aware of you or not, etc. See, an unaware target is much easier to hit, for instance if you blast someone right behind them, double jump to the side, they'll probably still be going in the same direction so if you blast in that direction you'll land a hit. Basically, yeah, just get used to the gameplay and your aim will improve - Aim can often depend on the situation as well. Sometimes it's just luck.

The fact you disable it when playing soldier sort of adds to my statement, doesn't it?

I gotta stress this part; I'm not saying "don't do it because it makes you the worst player", it's just my curioisty asking since for me; that feels very *unrealistic* to look at.

I look at your picture, then I look at a random screenshot from my library, like this one.

It's closer and for me, it looks like this is what it'd look like if I hold the medigun normally. Your picture on the other hand, is what I feel I'd see if I for some reason decide to stretch my arms out as far as I possibly can..and that doesn't make much sense to begin with. xP

Actually, you should try playing with a large FoV, not just for your arms, but for your whole view - Makes play a lot more observable, but slightly nauseating and disorienting when you first play with it. Try playing Minecraft with a super-high FoV @.@

I don't feel that my FoV is low or anything, because I'd feel distracted to see my hands and arms squeeze together to the center..

Arm streching is because of a high FoV, isn't it?

It'd be so cool though :U I already use the max FoV for my viewmodels and it makes the game run a lot better for me. Well, max you can get in the options anyways, I don't have the time, effort and / or dedication to go into the developer console and run some fancy smancy commands and shizz.

I dunno really my friend!

I just really feel that it's just about right what mine is right now. It's not too far out, it's not too close to me like I'm hogging the weapon and it's not invisible. xP

Everyone has their own tastes. I'm not really looking for realism in this game and don't care about how things look like. Even in real life I value practicality more than beauty.

What operating system are you using? Windows, OSX? Anhyhow, just delete the "tf" folder where the mods are stored. Then reinstall them again. Make sure you put them in the correct folder. If you want anymore help, take this link here: http://www.mlptf2mods.com/

Multiple things need to happen, you need to make sure the Mod is up-to-date, it is placed in the correct folder and merged, and that the server allows mods.  Some servers will automatically restore anything to default models and such.

I actually do use that website and followed the steps on it. It could be I put the folders in "tf" itself and not specific categories.

Well I tested it on offline practice so it can't be the server. Right?

Hello there, !

We had a huge Team Fortress 2 discussion thread already going, so I merged your thread with it. Post any questions you have pertaining to mods or general technical problems in here; I'm sure you'll find plenty of help.
