yes

all of that is true

but when everything goes your way

it is GLORIOUS

you are dominating half the enemy team and everyone goes pyro to vainly try and stop you

best feeling ever

I don't see how anyone is able to get points fast. It seems like such a slow class to play, always hiding and running away, waiting to for people to turn around while hoping no one runs from the spawn point behind you or that they magically realized you're behind them.

don't wait for them to turn around

run behind them

you NEED to coordinate with other people on your team

look for targets that are busy

when an enemy is wearing down a heavy or sentry, that's a good moment to get behind them

or whenever they're pinned down, trying to shoot through your line of defence

then they're screwed, they can't hunt you down without giving up their position and exposing themselves to your team

sometimes just revealing yourself and running away can cause enough of a distraction for your teammates to punch through

payload's a good map to practice since everyone gets clustered together

Coordination is where it gets annoying. I mostly just play on random servers where coordination is out of the question most of the time. It'd be nice to have an actual team.

I think my problem is that I'm too direct in my approaches and not patient enough, yet still in all the gameplay videos I've seen of people demonstrating proper Spy techniques, they don't really stop and do much camping; they generally only stay still when they know someone's coming around a corner or are waiting for their cloaks to recharge. Those videos make it look so easy. People just disregard them and stand still, letting the players backstab the living daylights out of the whole team. When I play, it seems like people are always grouped up - Pyros letting out random bursts while everyone else constantly runs. Such a drag.

Discussion starting thing: If you were absolutely forced to choose a single class to be removed from TF2, which class would you choose?

Myself, I'd probably choose Sniper, since the game is largely mid-to-short-range, and here you have a 1shot-from-safe-distance class. He takes fun from the game because instead of it being "I better be careful to watch the entrances to make sure nobody rushes the point!", it's "I better constantly hop around like a rabbit on cocaine so that a sniper doesn't instantly drain my 450 HP!". It feels like he breaks the game in a way. He's not like the spy, who has to rely on stealth skill and getting close to the target to get his instant kill. The sniper just lines his cursor up over the target's face and clicks from a safe distance. While aiming for a headshot, simply repeatedly scoring bodyshots can be enough. It's why the Sydney Sleeper exists. On top of that, he gets a guaranteed crit combo that is also capable of random crits, the Bushwacka and Jarate. So not only do you have a long-distance killing class also capable of a variant of Puff 'n Sting, but his version can also randomly crit, so it doesn't even matter too much if he misses with the Jarate.

Keep our discussions out of this, silly roop. img-1379205-1-tongue.png

Sniper's just what he is, he's the long-range support bullet making his teammates see enemies drop dead infront of them.

So let's make a run down!

since the game is largely mid-to-short-range, and here you have a 1shot-from-safe-distance class

That's what he is, a sniper. He "excels" at long range.

He takes fun from the game because instead of it being "I better be careful to watch the entrances to make sure nobody rushes the point!", it's "I better constantly hop around like a rabbit on cocaine so that a sniper doesn't instantly drain my 450 HP!"

Again, this is his professional work; this is what he's built for. Nopony's forcing you to jump around like a kangaroo either.

It feels like he breaks the game in a way. He's not like the spy, who has to rely on stealth skill and getting close to the target to get his instant kill. The sniper just lines his cursor up over the target's face and clicks from a safe distance

This is again Sniper in a nutshell; unlike the spy he is NOT built for getting up close and personal; that's his weakness. Anything close to him is a large threat, and Spy is even his natural enemy because sniper never sees him coming, despite having a few tools that aid in revealing him because in order to do that you'll have to try and figure out that there is a spy around in the first place.

As you complain on sniper just "lining up his cursor over the target's face", people argue that spy "breaks the game" with arguments like "You never see him coming, and he just stabs you from the back where you're not looking, effectivley never giving you a chance to retaliate". Some people would counterargue you by saying "Sniper takes aiming skill, Spy is just about walking around and firing while looking at their backs".

While aiming for a headshot, simply repeatedly scoring bodyshots can be enough. It's why the Sydney Sleeper exists

Bodyshots works but aren't as effective, and honestly does it really matter? When I play sniper, all I care about is that my target dies - I do try to aim for the head naturally because it's way more reliant on picking an enemy off; but weak in health classes such as Scout who is a fast little rabbit, he'll die if I bodyshot with 100% charge. Tell me, what's the difference?

A bodyshot can kill you.

A headshot can kill you.

I feel that people who complain on bodyshots, are so silly. It's like "Boohoo, I didn't get the bullet to my head, what a disgraceful death" - you're dead eitherway and will respawn shortly, does that really matter to you that much?

Regarding sydney sleeper - It's a supportive style rifle, where you can coat enemies in jarate, damaging them and making them much more vulnerable to your teams weapons (not to mention it's lovely for countering dead ringer spies as they are still coated in piss). The fact it cannot headshot, actually means that Sniper gets "weaker" in a regard - you can't instant-kill a heavy who has a medic healing him; or other tanky classes unless you're fast enough to pick'em off before they run behind cover.

And just to cover the Croc-O-Style kit, here's what I'd call the pros and cons for it!

+Counters quickscopers

+Counters head obsessed snipers

-Experienced snipers will take aim at where you can be killed

-Surviving a bodyshot is a gamble with most rifles, you'll survive if it is The Hitman's Heatmaker, you won't survive if it's The Machina with 100%

-Darwin's Danger Shield means discarding Jarate/SMG

On top of that, he gets a guaranteed crit combo that is also capable of random crits, the Bushwacka and Jarate. So not only do you have a long-distance killing class also capable of a variant of Puff 'n Sting, but his version can also randomly crit, so it doesn't even matter too much if he misses with the Jarate.

If you have a problem with random crits, there are nocrits servers out there. img-1379205-2-tongue.png

Surely it's a deadly combination, but you make it sound like he can just run up close to any class and insta-kill them with this.

There's other classes that are far superior than the sniper at close range. Let's compare it to Pyro, shall we?

Both of them can make a guaranteed crit, as long as their target's either pissed or burning.

Jarate causes enemy to take minicrits (crits in special occasions such as bushwacka).

Fire causes enemy to take damage over time.

Pyro succeeds where the sniper doesn't, such as a soldier - a soldier can survive a hit and have 5hp left.

Pyro can also in this case reflect rockets back at the soldier and he has more health to deal with enemies close up.

But the real deal here; is that I'm talking about sniper wacking his weapon at an enemy who can just fire rockets and turn the sniper into giblets.

125HP means that sniper has not much of a chance to stay alive if something comes close to him.

Scouts are fast and if they are great dodgers, make difficult targets to hit.

Soldiers can annoy the sniper with rockets.

Pyro can do the same with flare guns.

Demoman's so drunk he can just either plant sticky bombs and blast him, or even sticky jump and hit him in the face with a stick grenade that's instant-kill on the sniper.

Heavy can equip fists of steel + sandvich; effectively surviving a trip past a sniper's field of view.

Engineer could use the wrangler, but his class mostly promotes turtling so he doesn't encounter the sniper that much.

Medics IS a class who should fear a good sniper, as a good sniper wants to deny the enemies their healing sources.

Sniper is funnily enough his own enemy, and your sniper needs to help pick off the enemy sniper bullying your team.

The spy's the sniper's natural predator as stated above for many reasons.

Sniper isn't broken. He's just doing his job, and is known for being "annoyning". But that doesn't mean he should be removed because you feel he's 'overpowered' or 'annoyning' or 'broken.

Also roop, you hardly ever play Team Fortress 2 nowadays! Feels a bit weird that you're arguing about balance when you don't even play the game anymore. xP

Hey everypony! Personally, I'm a big sniper/ spy fan myself, I think they're both great, but I don't think any class is too powerful or should be removed. Each class has their own strengths and weaknesses. The thing that it really depends on is the skill of the player. No matter what, a player will make or break the class they are using.

Just thought I would share this video with you all too! MLP + TF2 = 20% cooler! wub.png

I recently "updated" my scout's loadout and changed my pyro's loadout.

Here's a picture of my pyro, that i'm most proud of because of the huge change:

And here's a picture of my updated scout:

I give the steam community links because i don't know why it's throwing me an error with pictures, fixable, but i'm lazy.

My Fast Learner is no longer dirty, it's a clean version that i found with tons of luck and it's painted pink, i'm very proud of that.

I'm starting to play TF2 again, i just got stuck with Bioshock Infinite now.

I got dat Bill's hat, and an entire page of other hats. I used to be pro-trader on there but I basically quit after they switched to Steam trade instead of TF2 trading. I still play occasionally but I basically moved onto Gmod and TTT.

Oh, and seeing how there's a relevant thread to post this other than the topic I had specifically made for it that's been forgotten now, here, have a video starring Jozzeh and I.

Did some good Soldiering this morning. Had the top score on the server and managed to land some good kills. I still wish I could get an unusual hat. I have no cred right now.

Yes, yes. Rub it in. Brag about your awesome gear. I only have a few strange weapons, a few hats, and three refined metal. No buds and no unusual hats.

I'm in the same boat, buddy. And who wants a strange Pain Train, anyway?

Although it's hilarious to rocket jump down on someone and kill them with the worst melee (except for fire axe) ever.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to brag about it really as all I ever said was that I was reminded of the memory of a place in time where I had one.

Hats aren't everything either, anyway! They're purely cosmetic (except for the polycount hats).

..Next up, Valve releases the first hat that comes with a small cannon that shoots a grenade every 10th second at enemies. xP

I have a Strange Pain Train. I mostly use it on DeGroot Keep, especially on defence because screw logic. I never use it with the soldier though.

It's pretty smart considering arrows is the only type of 'bullet' damage in Medieval mode, you're basically using an upgraded default melee!

Thanks for the tip, never really thought of that.

Also, i'm very jelly of your loadouts, they are really good.

Speaking about that, who bought Poker Night 2? I did and bought another copy for a friend, we are looking forward to get all of the new items.

Last I checked shield bash damage counts as bullet as well (for some very strange reason), but the negative is pretty inconsequential when you take away most guns. On the other hand, the positive is completely useless on defence, so it's a straight DOWNgrade, albeit a small one. It's not really that much different from using stock except people rage more when you dominate them.

That said, I do best in medieval with the Half-Zatoichi. I used to even use it in regular matches, though I never use it unless I replace one of my other weapons with something passive; I can never keep track of which direction I need to scroll so I end up switching to it on accident if I have something else that I would be trying to use. Since I got better with the stickybombs I use that less.

Well yeah, on defence it pretty much is as useful as magikarp's splash. XD

I must say, I just learned that shield bash is "bullet" type damage. How silly..
But you know what's real silly? The splendid screen dealing even more damage on a bash if you have acquired heads, it gets really out of hand. The bash deals 85 damage +17 for every head, up to 5.
A little simple math means that 17 * 5 + 85 = 170 damage.
That means not even a heavy with his bulky health can survive a bash+crit combo. Ouch!
It's even hard for another demoman to steal the heads, considering you have to not even get bashed as that means instant-death!

Speaking of stickybombs..we really need some new stickybomb launcher, gee! I don't have much for ideas myself, but demoman players probably want some more stickybomb variation!

A new sticky launcher would be good, though we did just get the Loose Cannon so we'll probably have to wait a while before Demoman gets anything new. I expect we'll get something for Solder, Spy, and Sniper next.

Yes! And we also need strange hats! I have no idea why that's not in the game yet and Valve should totally do it. Come on! Strange hats!

Each hour is 1 point!

Just because I'm bored, have a typical pyroclasmic chaos that I call creating a "Camp"fire!

Make those useless snipers into something useful; a warm and nice place to sit up and get cozy around with.

I got a sweet Rainbow Dash scout mod and it is amazing. I'm trying to save up for that laughing taunt so I could hear Rainbow Dash's adorable laugh every time I land a kill.
