What if money did not exist?

The only problem is our current currency is becoming nearly worthless. We need something to base the dollar on, otherwise it's just paper.

Then why are you even claiming that it's greed? that seems to be a concept that's being pushed by socialists and religious organizations. Those who are blessed with "greed" are perfect and will help humanity more by "exploiting" the poor than those who preach equality so we need to resist their marxist BS and be proud of our greed.

"no one is more inferior than those who claim to be equal" - friedrich nietzsche

I grew up in poverty, so I held on to what I had, so I can't tell you much about the good life. I lived in an apartment with four siblings and my mother. Who had divorced my father. i don't claim to be equal to anyone else. I am unique. But we're all greedy, not due to anything external. We're greedy because we're human

If money didn't exist, there would be nothing for humans to strive for, no revolutions in industry or commerce would form, and we would never make any advances in science, technology, or otherwise. Greed isn't a good thing, but there has to be a sort of economy or else civilization would cease to exist.

In other words, without money and economy, there would be no civilization. It's a necessary evil that there are greedy investors and businessmen out there, and while it isn't a good thing at all, it's still part of the whole human-driven machine running the economy.

It may solve part of greed, but it will never solve greed, reason being is because greed is when one gains to much power and enjoys it to much. We will end up going back to the old trading system when we traded items and such before gold and silver and paper money came into play, but greed will still run through us regardless.

At one point, money didn't exist and a system of bartering was in play. If money were to dissapear we would have to adjust back to the barter system. All objects would have some sort of trade value in that scenario.

The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?

Then we would do what we did in the past before we had money... trade for stuff.. like work at a farm for the food... or clean someones home to stay the night there or a few nights etc. In other words just trade..

I am currently taking macroeconomics and we have actually gone over this.  A world without money means a world with bartering and trading, plain and simple.  We have to realize there was once a time without a currency system set up and people traded with others.

Money is necessary to encourage production and discourage consummation. Here is a long debate about the importance of money. http://www.revleft.com/vb/eliminating-scarcity-luxury-t180805/index.html If we used a barter system it would be a disaster because nobody can decide the price of every commodity relative to every commodity.

It actually doesn't...Paper money is fiat currency and is 100% useless, but useful in creating crashes and making us work like dogs for the people who print money. The people who print all the money don't need money.

I don't think paper money is the answer, but I also don't think trading like native indians is the answer either. We could work for days and still not get an ounce of gold in our paychecks, so that tosses the possibility of using scarce reasources. I hate paper money but I think it is the only option.

If money did not exist, no one would want to become a doctor and cure diseases. No body would be encouraged to study medicine or run hospitals.

Why?

Because who the hell wants to work for free? No one is that much of a saint to actually wake up every morning and provide services without a compensation. Also, nobody is going to work in any job possible, and receive chickens or bags of oranges as payment... seriously.

If money was not real, why would anyone want to build houses? Work at law firms? Become polices to fight crime? Manage electricity? Clean up sewage systems?

A cool new thing going on is the time bank: I propose a system of services and goods where effectivity of jobs done as well as time put into jobs in record are the 'currency'.

Where you say I am a carpenter, I make doors and tables and chairs etc. to people who NEED them and in exchange, whenever I need food, water, a plumber etc. they shall help me out

Plumber: I will fix people's sinks so long as if I need door/table repairs, food etc.

I know it sounds weird because everything would kinda be free. On one hand it would be neat but it faces troubles which communism and socialism faced in the 20th century in which a) the goods were managed according to a government and shared as rations. B) if you don't do anything ever and you still get things for free it's not fair for those who work much harder and receive the same stuff.

My only doubt on this system is how are rare goods managed (like diamonds and gold etc.) if everything is free.... (supposedly)

If money did not exist, there wouldn't be as much greed that we have now, hospitals and charities wouldn't be able to be funded by any rich millionaire who donates to them. No currency in Europe and North America, and we wouldn't have an economic system where companies are able to have more production in their products wouldn't flow smoothly.
