I don't mean to come off as a critic of Islam, here. While I don't believe in Islam, I'm also not out to get those who do believe in it or may have interest in it.

 

I'm just trying to be even here when looking at the history. I honestly wouldn't recommend someone judging beliefs by the history of its worst adherents, both because it does not measure the truth of the beliefs and because going into something believing the history is spotless may result in crushing revelations later on.

 

I know a lot of people get caught up in the history of Catholics or Protestants or Muslims or Jews and miss out on the only relevant question of whether the beliefs are true or not.

 

Is Muhammad a prophet chosen by God? Because bad Muslims exist doesn't mean he isn't.

 

Likewise the existent of bad Christians or Catholics doesn't tell us whether Jesus really was the Son of God or whether St. Peter really was the first pope, chosen by Jesus.

 

Good luck on your endeavors. I don't mean to impede your search or interests in anyway.

Atheism on the level of the average individual is usually lukewarm and quiet. But to follow that up by claiming atheism is “silent,” even in America, is a rather outlandish claim.

 

Since I'm the one who first used the word 'silent', I feel like I should respond to this.

 

I don't think either of us ever stated that Atheism is 'silent'. I was merely stating that a great number of atheists are not open about it. Kind of like being homosexual, however, with being an atheist it's taken even further. It's like you have a level of acceptance for homosexuality, and the level of acceptance for atheism is further below that.

 

The real widespread misconception that people have over atheists is that they think that we can't be moral/good people. Which is an incredibly nonsensical misconception. It scares me that anybody could have this misconception, because that makes me fear that their morality is not deep and is only a matter of what God says. Which is not real morality if you ask me. At the very least, it is not secure at all.

I was just saying that I don't like being called an atheist since most atheist are seen like people who still believe in good and evil and stuff without actually needing a god to tell them what's good and evil. Atheist is a term not precise enough in my opinion, and that's why I added "atheists are supposed to believe in rules and in some sort of good and evil." to point out that I don't follow that path. I know atheist have no restrictions whatsoever, I know there is a lot of different philosophies shared between all the atheists around the world, I know there is some "bad" atheists.

 

I just wanted to clarify that, when I say I believe in NOTHING, It also applies at the "rules" followed by most atheists.

I fail to see the reasoning of why someone who believes in the ideology of "do whatever the fuck you want as long as you don't let it go out on others." is labeling Christianity as evil. Is it because people spread the message of what they believe in? I guess communicating with others in general is included in your "don't let it go out on others." philosophy as well? But then again, spreading your own philosophy and communicating it to us is exactly what you're doing right now so I guess you're "evil" too

well i think christianity is evil beacouse it says that you should kill whoever is gay and that you should not have sex and is basically threatening people to think that they will live in pain for all eternity if they don't believe in good and sins.

My grandparents were heavy christians, my parents not so much. I've never went to church in my entire life, and I think I turned out alright. I'm agnostic, there has to be something making the world go round right? Something that started the universe, right? Hello? ...Who knows, no one does, so they theorize to the best of their abilities to try and understand it.

 

Either that, or somebody got it right, we'll just have to wait and see if one of the many religions holds up in the end.

Actually i saw a christian in my neighborhood do the funniest thing, he said "tomorrow is the day Jesus will return" and im like "da fuq?" guess what happened the next day, Jesus didnt come and he jumped out of his car ramming it into his house XD. After that he said "there is no point in life if Jesus does not hear our prayers" i was just...da fuq...either that guy is insane or he is like roman catholic or something...(btw Roman Catholics believe that if your not catholic youre not christian, they also believe that Jesus does whatever you pray to him...sounds pretty messed up right?

If that's seriously how you interpret Christianity then you have it very backwards... Christianity is first and foremost (in my opinion) a way to preach forgiveness. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" is a quote by Jesus that I feel that embodies the religion better than anything else. But it is also a moral guideline - yes it teaches people to not hate, or be lustful for sex, or do many things that would make ourselves more comfortable but is that really a bad thing? Especially when it doesn't actually have any power to force you to adhere to these standards?

 

And yes some will say if you don't believe in Christ you will go to Hell, but is that really any different from an atheist saying "You're wasting your life not seeking all the self gratification you can get, pursuing a God and ideology that does not exist"? You're threatening that they're throwing their (presumably) only life away seeking something that is not there, and in my opinion that is even worse in a way.

 

If you really don't believe in a soul or in such things they are empty meaningless threats anyway are they not? In which case you're pretty much arguing against freedom of speech. Just because you don't like what someone has to say or believes they're evil?

i believe that when you die you die. your dead. finished. nothing happens. so yeah i think they are wasting their lifes and should really be out there and life their life to the fullest. but that's my opinion. but is it a threat? i really don't see how that would be a treath. i'ts just advice. and i think you will life a much more fulfilling and happy life if you do that.
