It's one of the more creepy games I've played in years. Not as heart-attack inducing as some jump scares in the Dead Space games, but it will fuck with your mind.

 

i watched a walk through, it has an interesting premise, but theres no weapons in the game :(

 

Weapons would ruin the game, imo.

That is what makes this game so excellent. It wouldn't nearly be as frightening if you could just mow down the creatures who stalk you with a machine gun. Amnesia knows that something becomes more scary the less you see it, and you spend most of your encounters running away.

 

This is a must-buy for any gamer. Instant classic.

i think you can actually throw barrels at them, but it just stuns them

My example still applies. While the first few encounters will be frightening, when you include weapons people will just adapt and learn how to kill them off most efficiently. Instead, Amnesia makes you paranoid about encounters considering how fast they can kill you and how you cannot fight back.

Honestly, the AI isn't too intelligent, it is fairly easy to outmaneuver and escape them already.

Thing is, weapons take skill to manipulate IRL. A mace or sword would demand strength, and a knife would require dexterity.

Remember Daniel is just an archaeologist, he digs out harmless(?) ancient artifacts for a living. He's not Indiana Jones, much less Chris Redfield.

Heck, just LOOKING at the monsters drains his sanity, how do you expect him to even consider coming CLOSER to them? XD

So far in my playthroughs I have only seen the bro once and the freakin water monster is the only thing to get me scared so far. I don't know if my game is busted or what and I don't know if I want it to get fixed if it is. :lol:

I've watched Slender gameplays a couple nights ago, and everything turned out fine.

2. Hit a grunt with it

3. Flee

Actually, it more or less goes like this.

 

1. Get barrel

2. Hit grunt with it

3. Flee

4. Grunt runs at you super-fast

5. Death

 

Happens everytime :P

I don't know if it's just me, but I realized that ironically enough, grunts catch up to you ONLY when you run fast. It's like they have a reflex of speeding up when you are, but don't bother slowing down when they come closer.

It's because if you start running away, and you get far enough, they start running, and they're much faster than you

From what i've read, it's possible to hide from them by picking up a barrel and holding it in front of your face.

It's kinda funny though how it says ''Hide, you have no means to defend yourself'' when there are rocks and boards and crowbars and stuff everywhere.

I have played it. In the beginning I only managed rounds of about 5 minutes :P It's the atmosphere that does it. It's so damn creepy. And when you hear that growl, oh god... When I got near the end of the game, I just pushed through, hoping that it would end soon :lol: And I made it! And I'm proud of it :)

 

Now I just have the sequel to look forward to... :unsure:

Of course I play it. I've never been so scared in my entire life when I got to the water part ;____; I usually don't get afraid so easily, but I'm kinda afraid of the dark and such.

Awesome game, but scary as hell ;_;

I know it would take the point of having to escape and hide out of the game, but i meant that if he has a pole or something, he could just whack the Grunt's head a few times, rather than just throwing it and running.

Again, it takes skill to use those as weapons. You don't just swing a crowbar and expect it to hit the target. It takes some practice, and as I said, Daniel isn't Indiana Jones or Rick O'Connell (The Mummy series).

Also a lot of muscle power. Have you seen how these things literally break down doors in three swings? Daniel is no match for them in close combat, even with a crowbar. Getting hit by a weakling like that, a grunt will just get more angry.

 

You can, however, throw rocks to create a diversion.

I really want to, though. It seems fun.

The game itself is not hyper-scary - nerve-racking than anything else, and the event triggers are more startling than scary. However, the intensity and the solitude the atmosphere gives off puts you at the heart of terror. The setting is creepy, but after seeing many haunted houses on TV and reading creepypasta about creepy structures, you get used to it... I also got used to the dark, because well, I like the dark (at least now). The only thing that was remotely scary was the random encounters with the Amnesia monsters that popped up and I had to run from them - now that is intense.

I find with most horror games I play, you're not really terrified, but the setting it creates really just messes with your mind. You get a feeling of dread/nervousness, and that goes to make things really creepy. And when you run into some scary monster, there's an initial shock of "HOLY SHIT WHAT WAS THAT", but as you run it sort of winds down :/ But then, when you have to hide, knowing that you're completely powerless if it finds you, that feeling comes back. Especially when you hear it lurking around. :unsure:

Eh, I guess I understand what Amnesia's like and all, but that just makes me want to play it more. -_-

Sadly no, I'm not allowed to play horror games. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png But I really want to play. It doesn't look that bad! I'm not easily scared. (watch, I'll play the game for 2 minutes and never sleep again for saying that)

I can relate to this, even though my experience is limited to watching videos and imagining myself playing it - I have a pretty vivid imagination. Heck, I imagined myself AS the protagonist, or even as part of a team of protagonists.

But remember Daniel is not you. He's pretty superstitious and somewhat claustrophobic. He can't stand the sight of the monsters, he can't stand staying in the dark... He's already mentally unstable and things like that make it worse, which is why the game's more challenging even for those who're not scared. :3

 

EDIT: I just realized upon watching a gameplay vid, Daniel is actually physically strong, seeing he can push huge wooden pillars or pull big rocks away. But again, since he's mentally weak, he still doesn't stand a chance against anything that fights back.
