Archi the Atmomancer 564 December 21, 2012 Share December 21, 2012 I was thinking to myself the other day after watching Season 3 Episode 8 about how I don't find the series as interesting as it was when I first began watching it. I still enjoy the show of course, but I find it's less because of what happens in each episode and more because I like the characters themselves. I came to the conclusion that this was because of the detached nature of the episodes, and while the "slice of life" format is good I think a coherent, interlinked story would interest me more and make me more eager for another episode. What do you think? We should get episodes like rainbow dash trying to train scotaloo etc. Some little things for us bronys. And yes it would get boring if trixie or chrysalis or discord trying to destroy ponyville every episode. And also i think 22 minutes isnt enough to tell a story like that. I think she will eventually master dark magic, she has already shown a basic understanding of it in The Crystal Empire two parter and they did hint at that and more involvement from Luna at the end of that two parter with Luna and that book. She technically is now because her brother did marry their niece but I doubt there was any relation before then though. It is entirely possibly that Twilight could come from a powerful family her brother has also shown an affinity for magic especially with defensive spells. dekutree64 713 December 21, 2012 Share December 21, 2012 I wouldn't mind a little more connectedness to the episodes, but they already do a great job of maintaining continuity and acknowledging past events in the current format. Quite well done, where you can jump in on any episode and not be totally lost as you would on most anime series, but at the same time it's a lot more progressive than a purely episodic show like Looney Tunes or Animaniacs (both of which I love, but for different reasons than MLP). As much as I love the 2 parters and and story arcs in other shows, it would probably kill the replay value of each episode. I'd be happy with hints of a greater story going on each episode and of course the characters evolving and adapting to what has happened in the past. 1 We were meant to rule together, little sister...... Rarietty 632 December 21, 2012 Share December 21, 2012 (edited) Technically, there is a slight plotline with the "Twilight's destiny" thing they're hinting at with the Crystal Empire (the season 3 finale will probably touch more on that). This show has a huge amount of continuity for a kids' show aside from that, with things like the Gala in season 1, Trixie coming back, references to past episodes, character's relationships strengthening and characters developing. There's seriously a lot of character development, and I think Rainbow Dash is the pony where it's the most obvious, as seen in Wonderbolt Academy and Sleepless in Ponyville. She's matured a lot in the past two seasons. Besides, a recurring storyline (eg. The Mane 6 going on an epic quest that spans across several episodes) makes the show less accessible to a larger audience. You wouldn't be able to just jump in at a random episode and know what's going on. Anyways, I love the show's slice-of-life format. Don't forget that they've been including more and more references to past episodes, which, while not a replacement for a coherent on-going storyline, plays a key part in not making each episode 'detached' or 'isolated'. Other than that, the two-part premieres and finales serve me well enough for my on-going story need, at the moment. I understand the want for it, but at the same time the target demographic of 'younger' kids kind of goes against an 'on-going' theme, and everyone should remember that. Zygen 6,066 December 21, 2012 Share December 21, 2012 Eh, I dunno if I'd actually find the show more interesting just because it had a storyline, I mean sometimes the storyline for shows could make them better, but then it might change the show for the worse somehow. I don't think I'd want constant world threating danger if thats what your saying, I like the small life problems and random episodes honestly. And in the end I don't think MLP needs a full out constant storyline for the whole show, seeing as how interesting the characters are . And just, idk something about the show is awesome, I'm not sure if I'd be ok with something changing to drastically. I'm afraid it might lose its magic. Who knows though, it could make the show better I guess, but they'd have to start writing episodes in a different way, seeing as the episodes as of now are written separate from most of each other if i'm not mistaken. If this was to be the case then the writers would have to change that. I don't have any problem with the way MLP is now, so I don't think it needs to be changed like this, but I don't know if it would ruin the show, it could be better could be worse.
