What's everybodys problem with season 3?

I personally haven't had much of a problem with season 3. Sure, some episodes could've been done better, but there have been some good ones. I don't see why people don't like it very much.

Kiddie? Really? Dead parents are kiddie? Bullying is kiddie? Rarity is getting her own episode as all the characters are. Meghan McCarthy stated as much. Applejack getting overlooked? She just had two freaking episodes dedicated to her! Don't know what show your watching but it's not this one.

I understand not everyone agrees with me, but I don't particularily care what you think of my opinion and I'm not going to get in a petty flame war. You have your opinion, I have mine, not everyone thinks the same way. Respect that, please.

Bullying and death are two topics often covered in children's television, and they never specifically said AJ's parents were dead.

When you say things that blatantly aren't true specifically that AJ who has gotten more screen time per episode than any other season isn't getting enough attention to say nothing of being the only character to actually talk in every single episode thus far.  I'm gonna call you out on it.  Now how is she not getting enough attention this season?

to me, people are just afraid of change. No offense if you are one of the people who don't like Season 3 so far but everyone loved season 1 and 2 cause it was all hidden easter eggs and it was the beginning of t all, and now that season 3 has all these out in the open brony refrences people just don't like it for some reason.

I for one love all the new episodes so far, my favorite being either Wonderbolt Academy or Sleepless in Ponyville and I love the fact that Hasbro is doing this for us. I hope season 4 will be even better!

I'm enjoying Season 3 very much!  With the exception of "Spike At Your Service", I wasn't a huge fan of that episode. But even then, it wasn't horrible.  I find that Season 1 and 2 were better overall than this seaon, but that's no reason to hate on it. Mind you, this season isn't even finished yet. I'd rather wait and see how this season ends before passing my judgement, so until then I'll happily wait for the new episodes.

I haven't really been digging season 3 that much. There are a few episodes I like such as Apple Family reunion or The Wonderbolt one, but idk what it is it just doesn't have that awesome feel like I had with seasons one and two but I am anticipating an awesome season finale :)

Idk what everypony is ranting about...

Babs is one badass filly!

Spitfires face was shown... And AJ had a song!

Tho it might be because of there only being 13 episodes... And because derpy was removed...

But still... It's still a good show

Saint hypocrisy! I'm... I'm not even gonna say anything. You wouldn't take what I say at face value anyway. No point in arguing with someone that you know you can't convince they're wrong.

It's kind of a mixed bag. Too Many Pinkie Pies is thus far the only episode that I didn't like at all. Maybe I built up my expectations too much from hearing the plot description. Too much hype almost always ends in disappointment.

Then again, I was hyped like crazy about Magic Duel beforehand and it totally lived up to it.

Crystal Empire rocked too. The other episodes were decent so far, but other than Magic Duel and Crystal Empire nothing's really jumped out and grabbed me the way Season 1 and 2 did.

Anyhoo... I'm SUPER hyped about Keep Calm and Flutter On. That has some real potential by the story description!

I've disliked it a lot so far. I feel like they're making it more kiddy. Obviously this is a kids show and there's a reason for that, but a lot of the morals and stuff are things that everyone already knows or are now redundant.

The writing is cheesy as hell, the characters are even more one-sided than the first bit of S1, and they've made Pinkie even more irritating somehow. I didn't even think it was possible.

There's also the fact that again, they're overlooking all the characters that I like (namely Rarity and Applejack.) They rarely ever have roles.

In short, S3 has been poorly written and they've made the characters empty shells. I liked the show for its writing and its characters, and now that both have bombed, it's awful.

I've stopped watching now; I'm just in it for the community.

You aren't serious right? The writing is very good thus far. What would you use as an example for poor writing? I thought "too many pinkies pies" and "Wonderbolt Academy" were incredible, only "Magic Duel" and the crystal "empire" episodes were lacking.

No Problem with it,  so I really don't see why everyone hates on it.  Sure the 13 ep thing is depressing, but the quality of each episode has increased IMO.  Also, there seems to be deeper character development.

On further reflection, I'm realizing that in the first two seasons, it was about the same representative mix of episodes I loved, episodes I hated, and ones that were just kinda average.

It's always different when you're in the middle of the season waiting a week or two between episodes, compared to when you're reflecting on past seasons. Kind of like how every year everyone thinks The Simpsons or Saturday Night Live were better a few seasons ago, even though there was always bad mixed in with the good.

I'll give this another thought a few weeks after the end of Season 3. See if it has the same place in my nostalgic memory then. If it were to have an awesome two-parters season finale, that would certainly help :)

It also doesn't help when you only have 13 episodes this season, meaning there are fewer episode you can say you really loved.

1: The re-use of effects. Subtle but a pet-peeve of mine.

2: The lack of letters to Celestia??

3: Dat spitfire voice. I disapprove.

4: The episodes are dull, lacking of any point, and this is the main reason for #2. There is nothing to write to her about! It's embarrassing how bleak the episodes are coming to be. S3 has its ups and downs, for sure. But the downs outweigh the ups.

1.  That's gonna happen in a flash show.

2.  How is that a bad thing?  Moving away from the standard forumula should be a good thing.

3.  A silly complaint that has no bearing on the quality of the show, it's not even a different VA.

4.  Lacking a point?  Every episode has had a clear lesson, even if it isn't spelled out for you at the end.

I have not noticed any decline in quality.

In fact, some of the episodes surpass the previous season in quality.

The only thing I didn't like was that the Timber Wolves are 3D :P

I don't really understand why people think the Crystal Empire was lacking.

Sure, Sombra is lacking a large Backstory...

However,

Sombra has no known motivation for his acts of cruelty, he's just a sadistic, cruel bitch that sees the crystal ponies as nothing more than slaves.

Imagine the horrors they had to endure, I mean, the mere thought of King Sombra inflicted mental (and possibly even physical) pain on one of the crystal ponies.

Celestia states that she and Luna turned Sombra into shadow. This implies that he was even more powerful before the transformation.

Also, he's based off of Sauron from J.R.R Tolkien's lord of the rings. If that's not badass I don't know what is.

I'm just going to quote a site that lists the similarities between the two:

-Sombra is similar to Sauron from Lord of the Rings. Both have a similar appearance, neither has a lot of screentime or dialogue, both lost their physical form in the past (though Sombra is able to regain his form), and both are pure evil.

-Sombra's theme sounds similar to that of Sauron and Mordor in Lord of the Rings.

-The Crystal Empire under Sombra's control also looks similar to Mordor.

-The way he dies looks similar to Sauron's first defeat, and the way the dark crystal that he is standing on shatters looks similar to Barad-dûr's destruction during Sauron's actual death scene.

-Meghan McCarthy confirmed in an interview that Sombra was inspired by Sauron.

In my opinion, he is the darkest villain to appear in friendship is magic, so far.

And he's also killed.

You know its funny as I have pointed this similarity out a few times on this board, and to friends and bronies in person, but never knew that he was directly inspired by Sauron. That is awesome! Now I have to watch the episode again with that directly in mind. I think its also amusing to point out that Sauron pretty much has the same amount of dialog a Sombra(give or take a line or two) despite having three three hour movies, yet I dont think youll find many complaining about Sauron. It seems silly to complain about either as their purpose is clear, to be the dirving force behind the characters, a force that enforces all their fears and doubts.

I agree on all accounts. I do feel the need to elaborate on point number one though. The point of re-using assets is that it gives the animators time to focus on more scene essential animation, and putting in some of the crazy scene details as well. So the reuse of assets is one of the things that enables the show to be so good in animation quality.

???

Are you trying to start an argument?

An opinion of a show is not something wrong, it just means that I don't love exactly what everyone else does. I'm atheist but I don't think religion is wrong; I just hold the opinion that some morals are outdated and cruel. Does that make me a bad person? Because I hold an opinion others disagree with?

I'm not saying something like murder is okay, I said they had poor writing. Why is this such a big deal to everyone? Honestly, I am do confused as to why I'm suddenly the offender here.

I'm open-minded. You haven't even met me, how would you know?

I don't want to fight. I want to understand why I'm the bad guy here for disliking something. Many other people have said similar things (not necessarily on here) and yet I'm getting hate for what I think...that seems kind of intolerant and disrespectful.

I'm perfectly happy to hear what you say, but if it's going to be a purposeful attack on me not so much.

CE was and Too Many Pinkie Pies were the worst for me. Just the cheesy dialogue in general, where they would have something completely unrelated or stupid in it (such as when Pinkie just said "I like her").

I mean, it's not like everything is terrible. Spike At Your Service, which I did watch, was a very meh episode, but it had some great AJ and Rarity moments.

Somehow something I've said got blown way out of proportion. :/

Thank you for being semi-polite and respectful. I appreciate that.

I haven't seen anypony stating they don't enjoy season 3. Of course this being said the different points of views and everypony's different taste in what's funny and good can be different. I loved all the episodes, well... except spike at your service to be honest... a good potential spike episode just... Derp. Anyway, I love season 3 so far. It's been long awaited by many and I believe the majority of the pony population love it.

Another meh for me. I did like Lightning Dust, and I appreciated the Top Gun reference, but it just...lacked. All the episodes have felt that way. Maybe it's because S2's last twelve episodes or so were stellar and I'm expecting too much. Maybe my tastes have changed. Regardless, I haven't liked it much save a few good moments.

How was Crystal empire the worst? It was pretty good except for king sombra... he was just a sad excuse for a villain. besides! Throw your wife! I'd marry shining armor so he could throw me because it's that awesome.....wait...

I've been enjoying this season. Apple Family Reunion wasn't that eventful but I like it. This Spike episode shall go down in history as one of my least favorites, but it wasn't terrible--it just had a general premise I've always found annoying (a character being adamant on doing something embarrassing or annoying when it's completely unnecessary and blahgahagaga), and didnt seem to have too much going on either. Edit: But it did have some good and fun moments, like the Timberwolf call, AJ getting Twilight's attention, etc. second half was better than first. But yeah.

I don't want more CGI in the show, but if used sometimes like the Timberwolves that'd be fine. I just HATE seeing lots of CGI in 2D shows--it feels like they try putting it in to make things look cool but fail horribly instead.

But again, this case was just fine. I just wasn't particularly thrilled about it. Plus I doubt the destruction and reconstitution of the timberwolves' bodies would've looked so fancy if done in 2D without requiring more effort. Maybe.

Anyway, aside from that stuff, I'm mostly loving it. Granted, I always disliked the new facial animation (the ones like this: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/qaceObWho0c/0.jpg) from season 2 and I keep seeing more of it (like how it was absolutely unnecessary in the middle of Fluttershy's song line at the end of TCE). They keep making Pinkie weirder and crap, in a bad way (read: Wonderbolt Academy. Aside from the megaphone part she irritates me just about the whole episode)--a lot of that already happened in season 2, but they seem to be taking it even further, making her seem more of an 'idiot'. I miss season 1 Pinkie.

Buuuuut, yeah. Animation's great, I'm enjoying the story of each ep as per usual. Loving the songs, etc. brony references could be used a bit more sparingly, but they're awesome either way. Really, aside from my complaints like Pinkie, this is the same MLP I know and love.

Also I love Babs, and in each more minor appearance of Pinkie's this season that I can recall, she's just fine (plus she was good in Too Many Pinkie Pies.) :U

...But where's my Fluttershy? Haven't gotten very much Fluttershy.

I haven't seen season 3 yet, but from what everyone here is saying, it just didn't live up to their expectations in way of writing or characterization...

Always off-topic and always derailing.

IMO Season 3 was the best season yet.  Even Spike at Your Service was good to me.  There were episodes is S1 and 2 that sometimes bored me(Friend in Deed, Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000), but no episodes in S3 have bored me yet. :D
