Mister Jack 566 January 21, 2012 Share January 21, 2012 We didn't really get to see much of the Magic Kindergarten concept, but Twilight's various imagine spots get me thinking that she didn't exactly enjoy her first time. Granted, a lot of it was the embarrassment of being a grown mare in a class for little fillies, but she seems really petrified by thoughts of fillies laughing at her. It makes me believe that she was probably picked on when she was a filly herself. Did anyone else get this vibe?
Ezynell 2,037 January 21, 2012 Share January 21, 2012 Thats probably why she stood up for all of the blank flanks. She knew what it was like to be picked on by fillies like Diamond Tiarra. 1 GAK

Saiko 67 January 21, 2012 Share January 21, 2012 Yeah. She seems to have always loved learning and the most intelligent kids are usually bullied if their classmates are more stupid than them, so I guess it must have been the same with ponies. Swoop 2,278 January 21, 2012 Share January 21, 2012 Bullied you say? A possibility I suppose. Being the scholarly and studious pony that Twilight is, I reckon the main phobia that Twilight held was the notion of undermining the high expectations she had placed upon herself since becoming engrossed in academia; the idea of being sent back to a class intended for adolescents brought not only feelings of humiliation due to the bizarre nature of the scenario, but also feelings of shame and self-reproach, for failing to live up to her own standards, similar in nature to Twilight's reaction to the possibility of being tardy, or the sense of indignity felt by her when she almost failed her entrance exam. Twilight's central fault seems to be her tendency to react disproportionately to self criticism, so it would be reasonable to suppose that the whole Magic Kindergarten flashback was directly related to this insecurity, rather than a bullying incident.

Mister Jack 566 January 21, 2012 Author Share January 21, 2012 If you reach certain conclusions from the various pieces the show gives you, it paints a rather depressing picture of Twilight's childhood: No friends A very well-worn Smarty Pants, which was probably her only companion until Spike got older. Child prodigy (and we all know how much the other kids just LOVE the smart one) Really, this probably sums it up right here.

She was never really my favorite pony but now that I think of it more yeah her childhood must've been terrible! At least she has the 5 greatest friends ever now! Jokuc 8,174 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Oh, hey. Look ponies what we can find just by using the search function! Now I don't have to create the thread myself. I wanted to ask what you think Magic Kindergarten actually is. When it says "magic" it is obvious that it is only for unicorns. I just wonder, it seems a little bit weird how it is called Kindergarten when they had school desks and such. I would like an episode where we got to know more about how it is in Magic Kindergarten. Because from Twilight's reaction it seemed like she were scared of that place. Maybe she got bullied? Or maybe she was just scared that Celestia would send her back and she wouldn't be her student anymore.

I am so tempted to make a fan-made episode off this stuff now, even if I can't animate, draw or act. Oh well. Rainbow Dash Loyalty 1,275 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Maybe Sweetie Belle might join Magic Kindergarten one day, while Scootaloo and Apple Bloom are in different schools and they're all on their on for the rest of the day, I'd like to see how that would turn out in an episode. Especially if we get to see more of what Magic Kindergarten is like. ~Signature created by Chaotic Discord~
Scootalove 10,689 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Well, Twilight is really very skilled in the arts of magic and likes to learn but if she was sent back to Magic Kindergarten she would have been so embarrassed and everyone would just make fun of her until they see her skills. Sweetie Belle might go there if she gets the chance, when she wants to learn more magic. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Nature's Spell 526 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 (edited) I agree with the overall feeling that Twilight had a guilt complex and the thought of failing really upset her. It's possible that she was teased, but given the way other ponies responded to her in episode one I think as an adult the problems were on herside. She actively stopped people from befriending her, which is something I know a lot about since I did it too at her age. So, my head canon is that she wanted and liked being socially isolated because friends interfered with her studies. It is like Sherlock Holmes having no time for love or a woman. I also suspect that she would have been somewhat popular if for nothing else than having a popular older brother. Individual desks are not standard in the US, at least, till 1st grade, but the writers, and animators, stylize so many things you can't read into stuff. That scene was about her looking huge and out of place. For so many things I wish the writers would follow through with the backstory more. So many questions without answers.
