Well folks Sony has decided to repay it's customers many of whom including myself own some used games by giving us an outstretched middle finger. They did so by filing a patent to block used games from being played by assigning games to a particular system. And while we are still talking about Sony being stupid in other news Sony's CEO has an interesting new hobby of hitting beehives with a stick when asked why he could not be reached for comment. If Sony implements this foolhardy policy this gamer will not buy the Playstation 4 and no longer be giving Sony anymore of his business.

Console gaming has been gravitating to the end of stifling the second-hand market for the past five or so years. This honestly doesn't surprise me.

PC gaming's already pretty much there, so it's kind of hard to care about it happening on consoles as well.

Take that console gamers! You laugh at us PC gamers for not being able to have used games, NOW WHO'S LAUGHING?! Me. Hahahahahaha.

But I play PC games as well, it's just that my laptop can't handle most PC games well. :(

Anyways, I think this is just unfair. What was Sony thinking?! :(

I wasn't aware that this was a problem for PC gamers but I have mostly been a console gamer so that is probably why I never knew about it. It dosen't surprise me either because these companies are total copy write nazi's but it still aggravating, I have bought a lot of used games and the potential prospect of them becoming completely worthless does have me just a little bit angry.

It also says this on the link you posted

"It should be said however this is merely a patent and it doesn’t guarantee that the technology will be implemented in the PS4 or that it’s even in development."

Im pretty sure I can remember story's circulating like this back before the ps3 came out, So even though the entire internet is up in arms about this Its not even guaranteed to happen. I buy a lot of second hand games but all the second hand ones are for the xbox Iv had my ps3 for 4 years now and I only own 5 games for it. I only got the stupid think because at the time it was cheaper then a blueray player.

If you primarily game on PC, you're already used to getting screwed. Because developers LOVE to half-ass PC games with shitty controls. If you have a problem with it, then you'll be told to soak your head, because you can't sell your games because you never really owned them because you HAVE to use Steam. Doesn't matter if you buy the game on-disc in-store or not, you HAVE to have Steam.

Anyways, if you primarily game on PC, you'll probably chuckle, because now console gamers get screwed for once, and not us.

PC games, most specifically big, anticipated ones, are riddled with horrible DRM services you can't get away from when purchasing a copy of the game. even if you have the disc bought from the store, you'll still have to install the game via its DRM service, if it has one. i'm not so sure about used games not being able to play properly on here though.

I honestly think Sony will just screw their PS4 users the same way they screwed their PSP Go users. Making the console download-only.

So in retrospect, you can't sell the game or get used copies, because games are linked to your account. It also means they get more money because all of those discs you had before are now worthless, and you gotta buy every one of those games again online.

Well, unless you have a computer that runs most PC games, there are some that can't run well, like APB: Reloaded, where my PC can't handle really well for this game; Half-Life 2 runs smoothly on my laptop and Team Fortress 2 handles fairly well for it. Overall, my laptop can't handle ALL games, especially APB, unless I upgrade it, which I don't happen to have enough money for then. <_<

Ridiculously long install times is one thing but getting a bunch of used games and finding out that a company might implement a policy which could make them all worthless is another matter completely. If this is implemented  It would be like they reached into my wallet and burned all the cash I used to spend on those games, seriously these guys make billions of dollars way more than I will ever see in a lifetime I know these guys are in it to make a prophit but do they really need to screw their customers to do it?

While I am a firm beleiver that the business for second hand games (from stores anyway) needs to be reworked so the developer actually earns something from the sales but I feel sony is going a little far with this.

If you're going to punish anyone for used games, punish the stores not the consumer! Used games are the only way for console gamers to get good deals, dont limit them further. As a PC gamer I'm not affected but this is very silly from Sony.

PC pays for itself. Now would be the best time to switch ships because you have the money you were going to spend on the new console(s) to put towards your new PC. I don't recommend laptops over desktops, you can't build them, or upgrade their graphics card, which means when your computer's graphics card isn't good enough to play modern games, you have to buy a new machine, whereas on a desktop you can just replace the graphics card for like 300 bucks.

Laptops aren't too bad if you have a lot of money to kick around, and you travel a lot. Yes, you can't upgrade their graphics card when it goes outdated, but if you have a top-of-the-line laptop with a REALLY good graphics card, you'll be good for at least 3 years. Which isn't bad.

Desktops are awesome. You can get a crappy desktop, and pimp it out really good stuff, or build one for really cheap. Like 500 dollars cheap. Looking at all of the benefits PC brings to the table, that's a steal. Building desktops is easier than it sounds, but harder than it looks. If you look up a video and do everything it says, you should be good.

I like PC, and put up with the bullshit for a variety of reasons. It pays for itself, because Steam has sales and you can save 30, 40, 50, even 80% off. Or if you wanna be a jerk, you can pirate the games. If do, I don't care, just don't tell me, because I'll call you a jerk. PC's are also cool because unlike consoles, the specs are dynamic. That means the developers can program the game to have better graphics and stuff than a console. You also have a large library of games with PC, you can even play games on other consoles with emulators. You also have my favorite thing: Mods.

All in all, PC is good. I just wish gaming companies would stop spitting in my face.

Well that's pretty disappointing, in attempt on gaining more money with some ridiculous system. They are probably going to lose more customers if anything. One of the main reasons I stopped playing Playstation because Sony had it's issues years ago. [After Monster Hunter server went down. but more so capcom's fault... ] After the original monster hunter went down, I started playing Ragnarok on PC and I'm trying a few steam games... but my laptop is old and can't handle it. Anyways!

For future reference, I wish I could see how that new system will play out. As far as I'm concerned, I just hope the other's don't get the same bright idea. I mean come on, Microsoft already pisses everyone off. No one can deny that. >_>

If you buy a game you don't end up liking it's no ones fault but your own. There's is so many game reviewers in business nowadays that if you bother to research a little you can pretty much know exactly what you're paying for. Don't just watch or read what it has on the publishers / developers webpage because they are almost always going to make the game look better than it is.

Sell used games privately anyway, you're only going to get $10 or $15 dollars for a game the store is still selling for $70.

You shouldn't be happy about other people's misfortune. But it's still a dumb move from Sony. I skipped buying ps3 so I could buy ps4 as soon as it came out. Now no way that's happening.

You are forgetting not everypony has such an intellect. Besides, reviews are based off personal observation & opinions. You'd have to buy & play it yourself to fully judge the game fairly. Most of which are just stupid consumers anyway. For example, people who buy the CoD series because it's "new & better" "OH it's the same gun as the last game! but it looks better so therefore stronger!" >__> Besides, most people who buy CoD don't appreciate it's story. They just buy it for the multiplayer, and it's because what "Other people" are playing.

In a nutshell... not everypony is smart enough to use your advice, even when they receive it.

Well, I don't have a PS3 but since my games are almost all used (I'm kind of always one gen behind), I think they couldn't have a worse idea.  I wanted to maybe buy a PS4 if the games interest me but if they do this, they can bet I'm not buying their console (maybe I'll consider if they decided to have Dark Cloud 3 on it but still :\).

That is good advice and everything but if such a policy was implemented it would render much of that good advice meaningless. That kind of software dosen't care whether you bought the used game from a private seller or from a store like Gamestop, it will still block the game from being played making it worthless.

Oh, pardon my arrogance but i wrote that before reading the linked article and after reading another, which didn't mention software (God knows how i thought it would be implemented) haha  That'll teach me for being lazy and not reading the full text

Honestly, I'm very happy to stay out of all this. Can't afford it anyway, and even if I could I wouldn't buy any of this. I don't even like the Wii-PS3-360 generation either. I'm happy with my NES, Genesis, PS1 and PS2, and I'll never stop playing on these systems.

They mostly just come out with copy-pasted first-person shooter games which COULD be ok to play, but their gaming communities with spoiled 10 year olds ruin everything.

Don't worry about it, we all have the occasional brain fart or overlook something. Sony has made some questionable decisions in recent years but doing that would really take the cake.

PC gaming is superior, but even before I was into PC gaming, I always knew Xbox was superior. B)

ps3 has been a bad system since the start. You should've seen it's downfall starting with the removal of PS2 game support.

PC games don't have horrible controls. They have configurable controls most of the time, unlike console games. Also they support mods more easily, usually have better graphics, and are completely and udderly superior to their renditions on any "console"

I think Game Informer interviewed Sony a while back and they confirmed they wouldn't be taking any steps against used games anytime soon, A lot of companies patent crap they never intend to use just to keep someone else from using the idea.

Yeah that was a bad move on their part and that bad move is why I got a model that is backward compatible. But despite this massive short coming the PS3 has been my favorite current gen console though I did get an Xbox 360 a few months back and it has some pretty sweet games too.
