Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
sind des Glückes Unterpfand:
|: Blüh im Glanze dieses Glückes,
   blühe, deutsches Vaterland! :|

Unity, Justice and Freedom
for the German Fatherland.
Let's all strive towards this Purpose
Brotherly, with Heart and Hand.
Unity, Justice and Freedom
are the Promise of Happiness.
Flourish in this Blessing's Glory,
Flourish, German Fatherland.

Yes, it has changed quite a bit over time. Most of the stanza's have been removed, the reasons are obvious. The text above is just the 3rd strophe.

I'm glad that I got in first with this

It really is a great national anthem and I am proud of it, but there are some songs that I think would suit better. If anyone is interested do a quick search on YouTube for 'We are Australian'

Straya! ^-^

Just stop for a moment to take it all in. You are alive. You are free and the world would be far less grand without you in it.

You matter.

Everyone got this epic fanfare playing on every sports games before the games, instead, we've got this 11 major long pro-imperial waka poem

May your reign

君が代は
Continue for a thousand, eight thousand generations,

千代に八千代に
Until the pebbles

さざれ石の
Grow into boulders

巌となりて
Lush with moss

苔の生すまで

But I respect it, very relaxing and unique, not too epic or uplifting but it does raise spirits!

Here is my national anthem O Canada, most commonly heard at the start of hockey games :)

In the movie theater on the military base I live near, they play it before the movie and you're expected to stand up in the theater.

Sorry, as a french Canadian I felt entitled to post this version as well. :P And yeah, the lyrics were originally composed in french and were later translated to English. And there were three more verses too (which I believe have also been translated)

The American national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, is often truncated to the first of four stanzas only. Here is the whole thing with the lyrics following:

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

"There is a lovely land

with spreading, shady beeches

Near salty eastern beach

Its hills and valleys gently fall,

its name is old Denmark,

And it is Freya's hall

There in the ancient days

sat armoured Vikings rested

Between their bloody frays

Then they went forth the foe to face,

now found in stone-set barrows,

Their final resting place

This land is still as fair, the sea is blue around it,

And peace is cherished there

Strong men and noble women still

uphold their country's honour

With faithfulness and skill

Hail king and fatherland!

Hail every Danish citizen,

who is doing the best he can

Our old Denmark shall endure,

as long as the beech is reflecting

its top in the blue wave"

Oh man I hated formations where we did National Colors. Holding a salute through two of the songs after 90,000 rehearsals actually makes you hit muscle failure.
