Oh for once I'm the first Finnish guy on these things! Yay :D I'm usually never in time for something like this, so for once, I get to be the first Finn :wub:

Here you go then. Behold! The Finnish national anthem!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSlAuPOUew4

EDIT: Couldn't find a video with the lyrics, but here's the translation:

Our land, our land, our fatherland,
Sound loud, O name of worth!
No mount that meets the heaven's band,
No hidden vale, no wavewashed strand,
Is loved, as is our native North,
Our own forefathers' earth

EDIT2: Hm... Well whaddaya know... it DID have the lyrics in English after all...

I haven't actually memorized it yet, even though we have to sing it every weekday at school before our classes begin.  Its in Malay obviously.

Here are the lyrics from a website I found:

Original Bahasa Malaysia Words

Negara ku, tanah tumpahnya darah ku

Rakyat hidup bersatu dan maju

Rahmat bahagia, Tuhan kurniakan

Raja kita selamat bertakhta

(repeat previous two lines)

English:

My country, my native land

The people living united and progressive

May God bestow blessing and happiness

May our Ruler have a successful reign

(repeat previous two lines)

My country is Singapore, which is just below (literally) the above poster's country. And this is the anthem, which, incidentally, is also in Malay.

Here is my national anthem O Canada, most commonly heard at the start of hockey games :)

In the movie theater on the military base I live near, they play it before the movie and you're expected to stand up in the theater.

Considering that we don't have all that much Danes around here, I guess I'll have to post the Danish national anthem.

Our national anthem is called "Der Er Et Yndigt Land"

Just to add to the fun with O Canada, the words have been officially changed four times since it's creation in 1880, so you can get a broad sense of how old a Canadian is by which words s/he knows. :)

There was a plan to change them again in 2010, but it got voted down. :)

Third stanza of "Das Lied der Deutschen" - "The Song of the Germans"

German

Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
 Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes,
  Blühe, deutsches Vaterland!

english

Unity and justice and freedom
For the German fatherland!
For these let us all strive
Brotherly with heart and hand!
Unity and justice and freedom
Are the pledge of fortune;
  Flourish in this fortune's blessing,
  Flourish, German fatherland!

The first two stanzas have been defiled, like many other things too, and may never be seen in its original light ever again.

I've always loved the tune of the German anthem, I understand the lyrics have changed quite a number of times over the past century or so? I dunno, when I first heard the tune it went "Deutschland über alles" but that was during history class.. :P so I suppose it's been changed by now...

Here's my anthem. Like any anthem should, it makes me happy to come from my country of England. Most people wonder why it goes on and on about the Queen rather than singing about a broader range of things to be proud about, but I think it's well-founded, (She keeps strong political ties between foreign countries and augments the tourism industry)

Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light

what so proudly we hail at the twilight's last gleaming

Who's bright stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight

for the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming

And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air

gave proof through the night that our flag was still there

Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave

for the land of the free and the home of the brave

Often enough the Mexican anthem appears in the list of most beautiful anthems in the world, usually just behind France's national anthem. It also has some weird history to, it if ya' ever wanna check that out.

Technically a provincial anthem now, but it was once the national anthem of the Dominion of Newfoundland. Always brings a tear to my eye.

this isn't my favourite version (not a big fan of all the fancy frills they put in) but i'm currently in a noisy place and can't hear properly on these laptop speakers.

Yes, our anthem had been changed quite often between 1949 and 1954. Some melodies from Schiller and Beethoven had been used, but later our Deutschlandlied was put back as our anthem.

Now we only sing the third stanza. "Einigkeit Recht und Freiheit".

"Deutschland über alles" is part of the first stanza and was misinterpreted and misused by the biggest philistines back in our darkest days. "Deutschland über alles" was interpreted as "Germany is above all else. We are better than every other country." but in reallity it described our unification since the fall of the holy roman empire and overcoming our hardships as a whole.

The history of our anthem describes our country's own history quite well. Unification and prosperity. Devoured by evil and Downfall. Rise from the ashes and forever tainted.

Now we may sing the whole anthem again, but if one, as a german, starts singing the first stanza, he is accused of being a neo-nazi.

This is my country (Wales)'s national anthem, the title is Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau which translate to Land of My Fathers, it is written in Welsh and the english lyrics are below;

The old land of my fathers is dear to me,
A land of poets and singers, famous people of renown
Its brave warriors, great patriots,
For freedom they lost their blood

Chorus;

Country, country, I'm partial to my country,
While the sea is a wall for the pure, dear country,
O may the "old language" continue

Old mountainous Wales, paradise of the poet,
Every valley, every cliff is beautiful in my sight;
Through patriotic feeling, more enchanting is the murmur
Of her streams and rivers to me.

If the enemy violated my country underfoot,
The "old language" of the Welsh is alive as ever,
The spirit wasn't hindered by the awful, treacherous hand
Nor the sweet harp of my country.

The actual lyrics;

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.

Cytgan:
Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau.

Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i mi.

Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad dan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.

US resident here, but since our anthem has already been posted twice, I'll instead post what I WISH our anthem was.  (PMV version because what the heck.)
