Wingnut 6,992 January 22, 2013 Share January 22, 2013 (edited) In my view, The Crystal Empire Part 2 and Too Many Pinkie Pies were average episodes. If all else is equal, one half of a major story arc two-parter would carry greater weight than a standalone everyday episode, right? But ultimately, it comes down to this: Which episode did a superior job with its intended goal? Too Many Pinkie Pies was a bit better as a comedy episode than The Crystal Empire Part 2 was as an epic adventure. This will be one of the only times I vote for a laughtrack over a big plot advancing chapter. I still can't believe that Friendship is Magic Parts 1 and 2 both lost in the first round. -_- Edited January 22, 2013 by Wingnut
Emerald Flame 381 January 22, 2013 Share January 22, 2013 Aside from the criticisms of King Sombra, I've never understood why The Crystal Empire gets so much flak. Sure, Sombra wasn't presented very well, but the rest of both episodes were great, and IMO the second halves are usually better than the first. Too Many Pinkie Pies on the other hand, was a mid-tier episode that had a few good moments, but not enough to sway me away from The Crystal Empire Pt. 2. Rarietty 632 January 22, 2013 Share January 22, 2013 Too Many Pinkie Pies was pretty funny and showcased some great animation and character development for Pinkie. This episode was essentially to season 3 what Lesson Zero was to season 2-an episode to showcase the characters we know and love and have a fun, silly episode right after the epic two-parter. I could give some flak to the plot and pacing issues (Pinkie's total identity crisis seemed...off) but since it's a Pinkie episode, I can just disregard that. I don't think it's the funniest Pinkie Pie episode either, and I just found it kind of boring. I can instantly give points to Crystal Empire for having some of the highest production values the show has had thus far. The animation and the music (the Success Song/Failure Song reprise was awesome) were top notch. Seriously though, DAT ANIMATION. The overall look of the Crystal Empire, Sombra and the cool stairs sequence were among the many things that amazed me about the animation. It was also very funny, and I thought that the plot was paced somewhat better than any other two parters. King Sombra was actually a fine villain. He was scary and was a good "roadblock" for Twilight's journey. Just because a villain doesn't talk or show off doesn't make a villain any less of a scary villain. Besides, as I said, he was only a roadblock for Twilight's journey. Unlike the other show's villains, the story wasn't centered on defeating him. It was centered on Twilight's test and protecting the Empire. If he actually got sufficient screentime, the story wouldn't be about Twilight anymore and the point of the episode would be lost. Overall, I really liked Crystal Empire and it disappoints me to see that people hate on it just because of Sombra (well guess who missed the entire point of the episode). I just feel more work was put into Crystal Empire, and although it's not perfect (and neither is Too Many Pinkie Pies, mind you), I'm just going to help it by voting for it. It's going to lose anyway.

duidamasterXD 9,627 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 Whoa, Rarity war! Both episodes were great and helped develop her character, and both had amazing songs. While I find Becoming Popular to be the better song, I think that Suited for Success is a better episode. This was the episode that forced me to drop all of my preconceptions about Rarity and finally appreciate her as a complex and interesting character. I've heard that this episode was one big metaphor for creating MLP episodes in general (With crazy executives who don't know anything making you change your perfect ideas), and I don't know if that's true, but if it is then I would only like the episode more. Plus, Art of the Dress is a very underrated song in my opinion and there were some interesting visuals, particularly when presenting the final gala dresses. Overall since it has a special place for me, Suited for Success. Rarity has only climbed in my best pony list since I watched it
Rainbow Dash Loyalty 1,275 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 Two Rarity episodes eh? I found both of the episodes equally as good because Rarity was actually generous in these episodes, although I liked Suited for Success a tad bit better, I wasn't a big fan of Rarity's song Becoming Popular xP I like it better when the everyone from the Mane Six have all sing in one song like Art of the Dress but that's just my opinion. So yeah...My votes on Suited for Success 1 ~Signature created by Chaotic Discord~
Scootalove 10,689 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 (edited) Suited for success because, well its a Rarity episode. But in all seriousness, Suited for Success really had a good song with Rarity ''Art of the Dress''. I think it really was a good episode, showcasing dresses for a fashion designer. While, Sweet and Elite had Rarity becoming popular in Canterlot so she didn't go back to Ponyville. Really a tough one, so Suited For Success gets it. Antismurf9001 1,271 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 No contest. Suited for Success gets my vote. An Old Head 4,816 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 Looks like I'm the only one who actually enjoyed Sweet and Elite more. I know, in the past I didn't find it memorable, but while Suited For Success had the rest of the Mane 6 at fault for not appreciating their friend's hard work making them Gala outfits, Sweet and Elite put Rarity at fault for prioritising status over her friends. I admire her reformation in the episode, and the antics as she attempted to jump from the Canterlot party to her friends' party made for some true MLP laughs. And like many people, I really did like the Becoming Popular song, much more so than Art of The Dress. My vote goes to Sweet and Elite.
Dr. Eggnog 203 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 Suited for Success. I like that it's an episode that shows off the good things about Rarity's personality, and expresses her element of generosity well. She does the right thing, it's everyone around her that screws up and learns something. And art of the dress is my 3rd favorite song. Sweet and Elite was meh I thought. 1 I love you. hawkflame 3,310 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 Wow, Rarity on Rarity action! I'll go with Suited for Success. First of all, it really highlighted Rarity's most positive aspects. Not only does her generosity shine through, but also her diligence and passion. Secondly, I liked the unique perspective it gave on fashion. I'm not a fashion guy in the least, but it seemed that the job of "fashionista" was portrayed more realistically and with greater detail than they do on most shows, and I love it when they go that extra mile. Most animated shows fashionistas are basically the girls in charge of a glorified dress-up party (think G3 Rainbow Dash). Here, Rarity is shown as an extremely *skilled* and *knowledgeable* designer in a field that requires not only talent but also hard work and passion. And the writers must have had a blast on this one. It was like watching their ultimate fulfillment fantasy for bad client experiences. 1 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite! Rarietty 632 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 (edited) Suited for Success is one of my favorites of season 1 by far. It's basically one of the episodes that made me love the show. The first time I watched this episode I was in a situation where I was really stressed out and overworked. Therefore, the moral really hit it spot on for me, and seeing how much I could relate to Rarity in a similar situation made Rarity instantly one of my favorite ponies, and she still is number 1. Everything in this episode was top notch, the music, the animation during the fashion show sequence, Rarity getting awesome character development... Best of season 1? Best of season 1. Sweet and Elite on the other hoof is probably my least favorite Rarity episode. Every aspect just doesn't seem as good as Suited for Success. I didn't like the song as much, the ending/moral seemed really forced and Rarity just didn't shine in it like she did in any of her other episodes. Stellafera 3,836 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 (Anyone mind telling me the score? I can't access GameFAQs from school.) Suited For Success: 13, Sweet and Elite: 7 I love both episodes, but I'm voting for Suited For Success for being by far my favorite Season 1 episode, and very identifiable for being the designer of my family. Those first dresses were brilliant, and each of the ways that the rest of the Mane 6 acted all fit their characters and are things that I've gotten at least once as critique. Especially the whole "20% cooler" scene with Rainbow Dash. It also featured a lengthy song reprise, and I freaking love reprises. Although I had pretty much decided that Rarity was my favorite in episode 1 (I only started liking RD and AJ in Season 2), it further reinforced it and is still an episode that is talked about to this day. 1 Latest Video: Come On: An Ode To Best Friendship "Says they don't like MMDW or Merriwether Williams: Inb4 Stellafera" - Sugar Cube

TheMarkz0ne 962 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 Suited for success would have to be the best in my opinion. We get to see what a dedicated friend Rarity is. The dresses were beautiful and we got to see all the hard work Rarity had done to make her friends happy. I even liked it in the end were her friends made hera dress based off her style because they were sorry tht they put her through lot of unneeded work
PoisonClaw 8,164 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 (edited) Suited For Success. Think about it: this was an episode that consisted of dresses, dressmaking and fashion shows, a perfect recipe for a "girly" episode that would probably make a lot of fans either roll their eyes or declare it as horrible from the get-go. Not only did this episode not suck, but it was that episode the perfectly defined Rarity's character and make it very clear why she was chosen as the Element of Generosity. Wingnut 6,992 January 23, 2013 Share January 23, 2013 So, we have two Rarity episodes today. I enjoyed them both and it's not an easy call to make. The moral of Sweet and Elite, choosing between hanging with the “in” crowd or being with one's true friends, has been played out in dozens of cartoons. Like Rarity, the main character tries to be in two places at once. It was funny and I liked that episode, but even though I only watched it once, I felt like I saw it before. However, it's just one notch below Suited For Success in my view. The other ponies dismiss Rarity's fashion sense and experience in favor of more garish, costume-like garments. Of course, they soon see Rarity was right after all. Rarity's “wallowing” was priceless. And while I can see Hoity Toity approving the designs Rarity wanted all along, his cheering was a bit over the top. Sweet and Elite actually has a lead right now. I'm also surprised to see this particular match has more comments than other recent ones.
