movies/tv What the BUCK is Nickelodeon doing?

I didn't even know Nick was still running. Regardless, all the kids channels are going to two extremes: Less cartoons, more teenager shows OR super kiddy shows that can ONLY be enjoyed by a four year old.

Nick is still up and running?I seriously had no clue.

Anyways, they're a corporation, and corporations only really care about making money. If stupid BS tween stuff is what makes them get views,so be it.They're just following a trend in society, and unfortunately, society prefers to watch tweencoms over good quality shows.

Yeah, but I doubt they'll be up for much longer. Sooner or later someone's going to take action against them. Nickelodeon is going to turn on itself. I think they brought this upon themselves.

Ok, so I'm noticing a trend here. Nickelodeon is canceling pretty much all of their shows! What are they doing? Are they planning something? Plotting? I have no clue. But why would a successful TV network such as Nick cancel their most popular shows? It makes no sense.

To make room for even more shows, since their good shows are outdated so they need new stuff.

It's really sad.

Maybe they're making room for My Little Pony?

Okay, I know that this is a daft and absurd theory, considering what that channel is like, and considering what king of Dan Schneider "Comedy" shows are on that channel, but be honest: That would be the most awesomely awesome thing Nickelodeon has ever done!

I doubt it, it's already in discovery kids in some countries and in the hub, unless it wants to expand to some other country.

Well, since icarly's pretty much over, their desperate to get in some new shows. These shows are probably gonna be similar to icarly, so that they can hopefully get the same amount of views.

But instead of doing those, I think they should:

-Get the old writer for Spongebob back

-Create a fun, unique, and funny show

-Possibly rerun some shows

Nickolodeon's just desperate at this point, so their creating bunches of shows. However, they should focus on quality, not quantity.

Most of these live action shows on Nick are turning out to be more for girls... tween girls to be exact which doesn't necessarily attract a lot of people. Also, it can get a bit cheezy which can turn out weird.

Basically, I don't watch TV anymore because quality is degrading these days... where are the days when good shows were still on?
I still remember them. Best childhood ever. But when I turn on the TV now, I see Victorious or iCarly or whatever on Nick. I can't stand sitting for one whole episode because it is just so... meh. Very predictable actually and I kind of got lost in all of its "comedy" in the show.

In short, they are just milking money.

Getting desperate.

Cartoon Network has Adventure Time and Regular Show, and those two cartoons draw in alot of older viewers, their fanbases are big, and the shows themselves have a TON of product tie-ins. Not to mention Cartoon Network also owns Adult Swim, so they have a decent amount of viewers nearly 24/7. Cartoon Network is also the only station with anime titles (specifically Naruto, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, and Pokemon), so they also draw in that niche market as well.

Disney is, well Disney. They're never going to struggle, and they experiment with all sorts of different shows because they have their trademark characters to fallback on if things ever get hairy. Not to mention they also scored the rights to Wander Over Yander (Craig McCracken's new cartoon), which is essentially a license to print money. Craig McCracken (like his wife Lauren Faust, who is also working on Wander) never fails when it comes to cartoons.

And finally, there's the HUB, which up until MLP showed up was hardly even a blip on the radar. Needless to say they've become more than a contender since then. In addition to the countless masses of little girls the show was bound to draw in, it also garnered a secondary demographic: Bronies. Our numbers (last I looked it up) are pushing into the hundreds of thousands and unlike the little girls the show is meant for, we have significantly more spending money for merchandise. Pair that with the succesful Transformers reboot, Dan Vs., the plethora of old superhero shows, and the surprisingly entertaining Littlest Pet Shop show, and it's easy to see why the HUB may very well steal Nickelodeon's position in the "top three" cartoon broadcasting networks.

So, naturally Nickelodeon is at DEFCON 1 right now, killing off any shows that aren't up to snuff to make way for live-action teen dramas and comedies in hopes to draw in more viewers. It won't work, unforunately, and Nickelodeon's future is unclear. I could forsee the network just fading away into obscurity..

After all, they did green light shows like Fanboy and Chum Chum, Planet Sheen and T.U.F.F. Puppy. Maybe it's best they just fade away before they unleash more bad cartoons on the world...

More teen drama shows like every other kid channel out there now but Hasbro?  The only shows that are good to watch on any of "these" channels are Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls.(On these type of channels that are not reruns of Spongebob or something awesome like that)  Lets just face it, these are dead, and will be about dead in 3 years if they keep this up.  The only channels I spend time on anymore really is Hub, Adult Swim, and Comedy Central.  Cartoon Network has been going down since they got sued 2M for the boom scare.

The same thing they do every day, Pinkie: try to take over the world.

Unfortunately, their plans are on hiatus until they remember how to build a compelling lineup of shows.  Here's a hint, Nick: copy what the Hub's doing now, not what the Disney Channel was doing five years ago.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

I totally agree,WHAT ARE THEY DOING!!!!

I meanput the shows back on like

Danny Phantom,Invade Zim,Hey arnold,Avatar,etc.

Now they have shows like Victorious,House of a Anubis, and the only thing they mostly put on are rerun episodes of Spongebob that i have seen like a billion times.

Sounds like Cartoon Network when they decided to air teen dramas.

I don't care what happens to Nickelodeon. I used to watch shows such as Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron, and the Fairly Oddparents, but they either ended or decreased in quality after a long period of time. I don't watch it anymore.

I have notice this actually.

For me it's also happened to CN.

These two channels have been competing in my mind for which one was the best.

Now they are both dwindling in my opinion.

I hope that they get better.

The problem is that the have too much teen targeted shows. The reason for this is that eu want to keep the older viewers that saw the network when it was good. The problem with this is that they forget the target audience which is the kids. By neglecting them they have allowed their networks to crumble.

I miss shows like Ned's Declassified and Drake & Josh, those were golden shows for the channel, but sadly Schneider sold his ship for stupid Tweeny Dramody crap, like Victorious and iCarly. I'll admit I sorta liked iCarly at first, but it turned too... I don't know just bad.

They have also basically stopped showing any cartoons and ported them to NickToons, which is dumb... Channels need variety, I miss Dragon Ball Z, Hey Arnold, Cat-Dog, all of that. 90's and Early 2000's Nick was great, but new Nick is filled with horrid excuses of Comedy and not enough stupid humor like they used to have. I pretty much only watch Cartoon Network, barely any, but some Disney, and the Hub and I've been forced to watch more mature shows as well (Not that I'm complaining, I just kinda miss the stupid humor I used to have.) like Doctor Who, NCIS, The Walking Dead, etc. Well I'll watch TeenNick and NickToons for Avatar, Drake & Josh, and Ned's Declassified, but none of the Degrassi crap.

My advice... Go back to your old style Nick, just... lay off the teeny/tweeny stuff. You'll get a lot more views from people like me.

I enjoyed TUFF Puppy  <_<

I think Nick's biggest problems is scheduling their shows. I they've got the right shows, I mean acquisations like Power Rangers, Dragon Ball Z, Yu Gi Oh, TMNT, Korra, and a few other cartoons and shows lined up, but they put little faith in most of these shows, and usually in about a month they'll either death slot them or put them on Nicktoons, which has been pretty underground for some people

Nickelodeon is putting to much on that tween girl (12-16) market much like Disney was doing a few years back. It was all about Hanna Montana and shows like that. I watched Nick recently while i was babysitting and I began to notice that all of their shows are about "who is dating who". I recall seeing a show coming out soon called "the problem with boys" or something like that. Why they think all 16 year old girls are interested in is boys is a little weird to me. They also tend to make boys and men appear socially inferior. I know that is a strong accusation but if you watch them hard enough you will begin to see it. I stopped watching nick regularly (when i grew up) ICarly and True Jackson VP were the big shows that were new. And while dating is a common story arc to put into shows like this I think it should be done tastefully. Making it the "Subject" of the entire show is frankly stupid. The parents are the harshest critics of Nick and Disney. There were a few episodes of Spongebob that don't air anymore (or as frequently). The Episode where Spongebob and Patrick raise a baby clam as a Mother and Father people thought was a hint at homosexual relationships. And there was an episode where cursing and foul language was the subject. The only show that i think is worth watching being "the legend of Korra" because i was a huge fan of the Avatar the last airbender. (even though the live action movie was extremely terrible). I think this is why the animated shows are being pulled so quickly is because Nickelodeon is trying to push these "tween girl shows" on to younger audiences. Marvin Marvin being the example of that.

Invader Zim was considered to "Dark" for children so it was pulled after what 2-3 seasons. I loved that show. Gir is hilarious. I know its on Netflix so you can watch all the episodes there if you have it.

What I hate is that they replace good shows with cheesy sexist live action shows that only exist for money milking. None of there live action shows have shown a transgender or homosexual person in them. It is like they are trying to promote and reinforce sexism and homophobia. There should be laws against promoting this stuff on television.

Apparently, Nickelodeon(rather than Nicktoons) is gonna show the new Digimon series

http://www.nickandmore.com/2013/02/05/saban-brands-announces-nickelodeon-as-u-s-broadcast-partner-for-digimon-fusion/

I hope this means that they can show the older shows in the future

WHOA, WHAT?! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiittt.... does this mean that they just Might bring back Jetix?!! YESH!!!

ok, NOW i'm excited to hear the results of this. and Digimon, the only reason i knew they took Jetix off-air, is when i couldn't find Digimon to record one night. seriously, i miss that station... :'(

Invader Zim was considered to "Dark" for children so it was pulled after what 2-3 seasons. I loved that show. Gir is hilarious. I know its on Netflix so you can watch all the episodes there if you have it.

"dark"? "DARK?! that show wasn't "dark". it was made back when aliens were still a huge hit. i guess. i dunno. GUESS WHO MADE WAFFLES!!!! (i love Gir. my friend even has a "Gir shirt" with Gir on the front. it's funny.) and i just saw Invader Zim (for the first time...) on Nicktoons, and i was surprised to even SEE Nicktoons back on Dish. wow. "surprise"!

As long as they dont cancel legend of korra season 2 i'll be happy. That and the last airbender were the only shows i ever enjoyed on nickelodeon

and what about Jetix? does ANYBODY (pony?) MISS THAT SHOW BESIDES ME???!!! REALLY... I HATE DISNEY XD!!! (rant warning.) DISNEY XD........ I ONLY WATCHED THAT FOR LIKE...................WHAT?! A MONTH?! THE ONLY SHOW I LIKE ON THAT CHANNEL IS.... KID VS KAT!!! NOW I AVOID IT COMPLETLEY!!! (long live Digimon.) the end of rant.

They're gonna do more teen drama comedy coz that's what gets them rating and they can do a whole lot more product placements on those shows.

That's why I consider The Hub for being the lone network to have all of my beloved cartoons of the past. I noticed this trend on Nickelodeon the minute they replaced the classic "splat" logo.

I knew this was the end of an era that day of my childhood... *sob*

Its on rating and maybe

the area of viewers they

are trying to hit,  it maybe also

they could be branching

out on a new channal which will

have their "cartoons"  for younger and

hitting more of the young teen and pre teen on

thier main channal.  Even CN is now doing Live  Action

shows for older  watchers sadly.... but they are keep in

the cartoons and even showing their old ones every friday.
