Number of episodes attributed to a certain character.

I've taken a look at all of the episodes from the first three season so far, and have attributed them to the specific character/s that the episode is based upon. I have categories for each of the Mane 6*, the CMCs in general**, and the Mane 6 together***, aswell as other****. Here they are:

As we can see, Twilight Sparkle clearly has the most episodes individually. This is accurate, as she is the main character in a sense.

 

Rarity has a notable lack of episodes, as she is largely seen in episodes with another character, such as "Look before you Sleep". 

 

The CMCs have A LOT of episodes, considering they aren't the Mane 6. Due to the two central characters being from two different groups, I decided it would be best to list the episode "Sisterhooves Social" as "Other".

 

Another Oddity is how Spike has an episode more than Rarity. No doubt this change cam about during Season 3, with the current count being Rarity 0-2 Spike. I felt that "Spike at your Service" is a Spike episode, despite Applejack featuring in it a lot too.

 

The season 2 openers and finales have been listed as "Mane 6".

 

I have listed the Season 3 finale as a Twilight Sparkle episode, and have listed the episode "games Ponies Play" as an "other", because I am unsure of who the focus of the episode might actually be.

 

*for example, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity etc.

**An episode containing all three would count, an episode with Applebloom alone would not.

***An episode with more than one of the Mane 6 as the focus i.e. "Look before you Sleep"

****An episode with Zecora, Luna, etc. as the focus is in this category.

 

I understand I haven't grouped them in an ideal way, but the core ideas remain.

I never even noticed how many episodes Pinkie Pie has. I don't;know why, it's just strange that she appears to have so many episodes yet I can only remember like four Pinkie Pie episodes.

As an Applejack fan I have noticed that there aren't as many episodes with her as the focus as the others but I haven't really noticed the lack of Rarity until a bit recently. Twilight Sparkle is no surprise and the amount of attention she gets is understandable because she is the de facto leader of the group.

Yeah, in many episodes where Pinkie is involved she tends to be the focus of them. Contrary to Rarity, who is usually sharing air time with another character.

Yeah, the Twilight one didn't surprise me. I do think the CMCs are getting a lot of screen time though, in regards to other "Main" characters.

One thing: some people count Feeling Pinkie Keen as a Pinkie Pie episode, some count it as a Twilight Sparkle episode. I think it's the latter, too - in that episode, Pinkie is simply the vessel for an unfamiliar experience to make the story work. She does have her humour and say in things, sure, but Twilight's the one learning stuff. I'd make that her episode.

This is an interesting concept. I'm not sure on the finer details of how a feat like this would be accomplished, but I could certainly attempt it. Maybe i'll just do S3, and then see what happens next.

 

I certainly have the time to give it a go.

 

EDIT: Maybe just the screentime of the Mane 6, considering how many characters this fandom acknowledges.

Its kinda strange how Fluttershy has the least screentime besides spike, and yet she has like the 3rd most episodes.

I guess being shy shes not onscreen as much? Idk the reason .

 

Anyways this just goes to show the results your going to get from using screentime vs actual episodes is totally different. Then theres things to factor in like the amount of spotlight is actually put into the screentime or episodes of the characters, some episodes aimed at certain characters  involve them not getting as much of the spotlight as others, same thing with the screentime except the screentime chart literally contains any and all screentime, including them just showing in the background and maybe never saying more then a line.

 

I don't think it takes a whole lot of complicated graphing and charts to see if anypony is getting a big obvious lack of screentime, and if there isn't a big obvious lack of screentime then I just don't complain .

 

Still an interesting chart . I think I've actually seen it before elsewhere, not sure where.

Exactly it is obvious why I want more for Applejack who dosen't like seeing their favorite pony? But I would also like to see more Rarity because although she is my least favorite mainly due to her negative traits being emphasized too much and her positive traits being emphasized too little I still realize that she has a great deal of potential as a character.

I've decided to compile a list of all the episodes for each character. This is really MY opinion on what episode focuses on who, so feel free to disagree. In my opinion, episodes that focus on two characters such as Look Before You Sleep still count. It's okay to share the spotlight with a fellow pony. So here go!

Spike isn't part of the Mane 6, so it wouldn't be surprising that he gets less screen time... and anyway, people would be more interested in which of the Mane 6 has the least screen time.

Never realized how little screen Rarity had, I was expecting a bit more xP I thought Season 3 would focus more individually on each mane 6 character. 

But we all know King Sombra has way too much screen time, he should be removed.

Oh good, I wasn't crazy when I felt like I had no idea what anybody else was talking about when they said Rarity got featured a lot in Season 2. I was caught off guard by the fact that Rainbow Dash was actually in 4th place in the Mane 6. I guess she just has a lot of memorable episodes.

 

(I personally count the two-parters as Twilight episodes, which means she has a ton of episodes)

More Fluttery shy?   That is a win my book!

 

Rainbow Dash-i think is a over done in hype as a cannon

 

Twilight-Yah shes a kinda main cannon and even put into the side,  she gets time shots

 

Pinkie-they can put her into any type of story line based on how random she is made to be

 

AJ-Makes a good main but also 2ed type of side line based on her they wrote her

 

CMC-Yah they get a lot of air time but it also tends to be with the other Mane Six worked in.
