So, have we decided whether we are going with 3.5 or Pathfinder? I've never played Pathfinder, but I looked it up, and it seemed like an expanded version of 3.5 to me.

It sort of is. I think the basic rules are about 98% the same, it just has different class abilities and that sort of thing. And a few new classes. Also, there are guns, but hardly anyone can use them.

Anyway, I walked someone through making a 3.5 character sheet without even thinking about it, so I guess that means it'll probably be 3.5. I don't much care either way, but I know 3.5 better, so if I'm going to DM it should probably be that.

If it would be alright, I might make my character now,  I suppose if we have people who are new to D&D, I might just want to stick to basic classes. (I.E no Samurai and such.) Are we just doing dice rolling for builds, or going with points?

Again, this is assuming I'm DM, but my standard rules are as follows:

  • roll four d6
  • reroll any 1s
  • reroll pairs of 2s (meaning you only reroll if there is more than one two)
  • take away the lowest die
  • if the sum is still less than ten, reroll
  • roll seven times and drop the lowest

It's a very generous system. You're also free to roll a second set if you're first set is really bad.

Wow. That's a very generous system indeed. I sort of agree there though. My first character our DM didn't allow re-rolls, and I was stuck with a 5, which, being new, I put in dex like an idiot. The elven druid who couldn't walk without tripping. I was actually better off being sneak attacked, because in a normal attack my dodge chance was so bad I dodged into the attack.

@@Brosparkles,

Also, you can use non-base classes if you want, but not ninjas. Ninjas are banned. It's been the rule with my friends since before I started playing and I don't want to find out why.

A friend of mine played a ninja during a oriental campaign of ours, I have no idea why they would be banned, but he only got it to level 3.(His ninja was also 6'6 and not very sneaky.)  I don't really want to play one anyway.

How is money going to work? If we're starting at level 4, are you going by the Dungeon Master's guide's chart? Or do you have a different way of doing it?

I don't know how I'm going to do it, because every time I do something different. I give you a definite answer before we start playing, but I'll probably roll for it somehow.

And I think it's the ethereal step that makes ninjas a problem. I don't really remember, though.

Okay, I'll just wait on buying stuff then. Because the level 1 recommendations were quite low(75-150), but the level 4 one in the DM's guide seems pretty high. (5400)

Heh, indeed you did. I wouldn't mind either a pony D&D or not, I've got OCs that I can use and I have my already made Halfling rogue guy.

What would be added to a character in Pathfinder?

Not much, there's just a handful of things that might be different, but I'm pretty sure we're going to do 3.5, because that's what I know best.

Good to know you're playing a rogue. Almost made one myself, but we don't really need two. (Going with a paladin, but I plan on going kensai as soon as I can.) (Sidenote: The whip is incredibly misleading in the player's handbook. )

@@ping111,@@Brosparkles, @@Quiles, @, @,

Okay, to all of you who are still interested: Get on Skype, add me as a contact, and make sure you're online on Wednesday. We'll be meeting then to discuss things, and possibly (but probably not) start playing. Exactly when we'll be on Wednesday hasn't been determined yet, but I'll make sure to inform you when I know.

how for serious? like an actual campaign being played out? or a casual gaming experience?

i play AD&D :/ so i dunno how that translates into the future versions....or pathfinder for that matter.

An actual campaign, yeah. If you haven't played anything more recent than AD&D then you might have a little trouble adjusting, but I think most of the basics are still the same. If you're willing to pirate the books, you can find stuff for 3.5 pretty easily. If you're not willing to pirate them, this website has pretty much everything you can legally find online: http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm Don't worry about Pathfinder, it's pretty much the same, really.

So yeah, if you're interested, talk to me on Skype.

Fortunately, I won't even be awake before then, so that shouldn't cause any problems. I'll take that in to consideration when figuring out an exact time.

On the topic of availability, on most days I should be available from about 3pmEST onward on weekdays and pretty much anytime on saturday and sunday. I don't know how many time zones our group is in, but hopefully it won't cause problems.

I can manage time zones pretty well. I've juggled three continents before, and it wasn't too bad. It helps that I'm available pretty much all the time except on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I already said that I would be available whenever...until next week sometime (I think...it could be later)

I should say again...there is a chance I may not be able to do this. I will have to see how busy I am but it may just add to the crazy stressful stuff going on right now...so we will have to see

But you're the one who got me started doing this. It won't be the same without you. Oh, well.

I should clarify that I am available on tuesdays and thursdays, but not until around 3 PM EST.

Hey! You people are supposed to be posting the times you're available, and so far only three of you actually have. I'm very disappointed in you people.

Can do Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays basically from about 4 - 10. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are a bit of a problem for me, though I could potentially make Sundays work if needed.

Alright, the general consensus seems to be wednesday afternoon. Or at least what would be afternoon for many of us. I'm still waiting on some of you, though.

Are you interested in this or not? Because we still haven't actually started, so there's time for you to join. Contact me (alex.kennedy118) on Skype if you do want to join.

@@ping111,@,

I'm still waiting on the two of you to post the times that you're available to play. Please take care of this as soon as possible, assuming you're still interested.
