So here lately I have been going through some short term depression and it seems that i gravitate towards mlp and the fandom as an outlet for my sadness. And i was wondering ...... What does mlp do for you? or even why do you participate in the fandom? I know for me its really a way to bring my spirits back up and forget about anything that ever bothers me. I watch mainly because it brings back memories of my childhood and the feeling of innocence. And with those feeling comes a certine brand of happiness that I love, so I do use MLP to battle depression as well I have a folder on my desktop full of adorable pony pics titled "Emergency Feels" for when I don't have time to watch an episode.

For me MLP is just plain hilarious.   I really like the humor style of the show.  It has a loony toons feel but also has good dialogue based humor.  Then you have all the parodies on the internet.  Plus ponies are just plain adorable.  Overall MLP cheers me up regardless of what's happening to me in real life.

My grandma has been in the hospital for the last couple of day. I've been staying up with her till 5-7 in the morning. I watch MLP, go on these forums, and go on other sites to keep be awake, and with out these activities I could have done this.

 

MLP is just greatly written! This show has great stories, great characters, and the characters are not stereotypical girls. MLP has made me a kinder and happier person since I've started watching it.

Every time I watch MLP I get this wide grin on my face, and I usually don't even notice. When I'm watching, I no longer give a damn about any of the problems in the world, and all my mind is focused on is the world of colorful ponies... 

 

This fandom in a way made me more openminded a person than I already am. I learned that not everything looks appealing at first. I remember watching my very first episode, S1E1, back in December 2011. When the theme song came about my first thought was something like "OMG LOL so gay". Luckily, I was watching with an open mind, because I thought "if lots of guys my age like this, there must be a reason to it." So I kept on watching and watching and became glued to the show.

Generally, I don't take on "uplifted spirits" or "a more positive outlook on life" or anything of that nature (though some episodes will do such a thing every once in a while) when I watch MLP; I've always been a very feminine guy, and candy-colored ponies fit with me quite well in the first place. Put said ponies in a TV show that's both funny, well written and add in some terrific characters, and you've got me hooked. 

 

The fandom actually probably provides more for me than the show itself; these forums being the number one benefit. But I also love some of the fanart and fanfics it inspires, and all these combined provide for hours of entertainment.

 

The show will give that "warm and fuzzy feeling inside" every once in a while, but that's just a nice surprise every now and again. Mostly, it's just a damn good show with a damn good fandom that brings me happiness in many forms.

Sound like you all have some great reasons for watching the show. i was just looking to see if anybody uses it like i do, to lift me up when im feeling down and get some softness back. The reason i say "softness" is because a lot of times when i turn to mlp is when i seem to look harshly upon things. I tend to feel like every thing is horrible and i hate everything (especially at school and on facebook) and when im by myself i just feel sad and useless but whenever i get on forums, draw some of my favorite ponies( which i should post one of these times), watch episode, and look at fan made stuff, i just kind of snap back and start feeling normal again

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic 4th Generation provides me with a daily dose of nurturing truth and calm-collective but sometimes crazy displays of every day trials and tribulations concerning our favorite color-candied ponies (The Mane 6). It reminds me that even in this sometimes fickle and unfair world that we live in there is always the possibility to learn new things and accept each other for who we are and to spread the message of love and tolerance - Things that as adults, we forget to remember as life throws everything it has at us in order to try to make our lives as miserable as possible. It's amazing and it will always hold a special place in my heart, even if it is at the end of a day a wonderfully done cartoon. MLP is basically my "everything" cure. Cure for depression, cure for sadness, cure for boredom, etc.

 

It's like the feeling when you are gifted a giant teddy bear. You smile so much you just want to hug it. And well, that's how I feel everytime I watch an episode of MLP, a clip of MLP, music remixes of songs from the episodes (most were linked by brony friends), and whenever someone even mentions ponies, I just want to TALK ABOUT THEM for hours and just forget about everything else that's going on with the world. It managed to be the accessory to my escape from my pessimistic side life.
