I don't listen to any particular "sub-genre"I just listen to whatever the hell I like. I don't really care about the different sub-genres. I don't even pay attention to them.

I don't usually care for most modern day metal music, because most of the time, it's just a bunch of noise to me. If I have to pick a favorite sub-genre, then no doubt it would be symphonic metal. I'm a sucker for bands like Within Temptation, who do symphonic rock and metal. Do yourself a favor, and look 'em up.

Who is this "Within Temptation" band everybody seems to be bringing up? I'm assuming they're symphonic metal, but then again symphonic metal isn't in my taste. I'm surprised at how my least favorite sub genres are the most popular lol.

Really? I only recall seeing about one person even mention WT. Most people don't know them.

 

They're a Dutch band that have been around for 15 years, and while they have enjoyed some success, but they're definitely still not that well-known. The lead singer is Sharon den Adel, and she's known for having a very light and lyrical mezzo-soprano range. Her singing voice is definitely an acquired taste. Their songs can be described as "epic" and "cinematic." I can't promise you would like them if symphonic is not your thing, but in the end they're more of a rock band than a metal band anyway.

I'm actually not a huge fan of all the female fronted bands. In fact, the only female fronted metal band that I like is Arch Enemy. But even there I'd much rather listen to other bands of the same genre as Arch Enemy, bands like Carcass, (EARLY) In Flames, At the Gates, Children of Bodom, etc..

Within Temptation is awesome. I like it along with Nightwish, Sonata Arctica,and Epica. Something about symphonic music I just love.
