It was a gleaming, golden tower of light that shone with creativity and awesomeness and explosions and other cool stuff. It was the best. it was... The Last Poster Wins Thread.

Then the tyrannical megamods got a grasp on it with one of their many tendrils that spread across the forums. After the first wave of lockdowns, the mods had installed a strict new system that they could use to enslave every man, woman, or child. Ever since then, the thread was a near exact replica of City 17, except with more dead people in the streets. At least the Combine had the decency to get rid of the corpses.

Did they finally shut that down?

They have tried and failed numerous times. What they failed to realize was that everyone in the thread actually gave a fuck. However, the resistance only angered the mods and delayed the inevitable destruction that would soon follow.

My interpretation of the game: the rock monster foresaw a cataclysmic event that he needed to stop. His influence on mankind was only collateral damage; he only needed them to progress to the point where they could develop construction and fishing (the bridge and the fishing net in the lake). Once he was in the volcano, he never knew the lasting impact of what he did to help humanity.

 

You gotta think it like this: a single white blood cell has only one job: fight off infection and eat pathogens. It has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what its true purpose is in terms of the big picture: keeping people from getting sick. The same thing can be said about the very enzymes inside that very same white blood cells: they're just tiny little micromachines with one job, working for a larger beast that they will never get to see. The white blood cell is also a tiny little micromachine with one job, working for an even larger beast that it'll never get to see, either. The stone monster had one job, and he never got to see what he did to help mankind: not just agricultural and technological progression, but letting them survive. By extension, every person on the planet is like the blood cell and the enzyme; when we die, we never get to see the everlasting impact of our legacy; very few people ever get that luxury (unless you read your own leaked obituary).

 

By extension, the earth is also its own little micromachine, the solar system is its own micromachine, the stellar neighbourhood of the handful of nearest stars, the galaxy, the local group, the Virgo Supercluster, the visible Universe, the ENTIRE UNIVERSE, the multiverse, the omniverse-- what else is there!?! Going the other way around, there are the individual molecules, the atoms that make them up, the subatomic particles, all the way down to strings: they all have their purpose, but they can never know what they're really doing. Logarithmically, humans are right in the middle of the inconceivably small and the inconceivably big; we have the knowledge of what each part does, and the curiosity to find out what.

 

I think this game is supposed to make us feel small but significant.

My parents have gotten them and also I know that it is very very painful. I might have some cavities though, I need to brush my teeth more.
