I think I'm slightly worse when it comes to starting out: I have no idea how to make a cobblestone generator.

OK, so here's my conundrum: I started out on a 3×3 patch of dirt, nothing else after that. I have a semi-sustainable supply of wood, so that's my only building material. Other than going about it the same way CaptainSparklez did (which is to make it out of crafting table slabs), how do I make a cobble generator that doesn't burn itself to bits?

I just remembered I can compost excess saplings into dirt and sieve that into cobblestone. Time to grind; wish me luck.
