personally I don't understand the difference between dubstep and techno

 

Very big difference. A very, very, big difference.

Techno generally has a 4-4 beat and maybe a clap/snare on 2 and sometimes a hi-hat on the & of 1. Not sure of a specific BPM for Techno, but im sure it can range from 100 up. Techno is very close to a lot of other genres like House cause they all share great similarities and is usually hard to tell the difference from. (for me atleast)

 

Dubstep is always 140 BPM, snare/clap on 3 instead of 2, and a modulated wobble bass synth. Not all Dubstep needs the wobble bass to be heavy and loud to be dubstep, as some of the earlier stuff is nothing like it today. Liquid Dubstep has the wobble bass, but aims at the presence of the music and the atmosphere over it.(Music terms ftw!) The atmosphere of the song can also make it lean into the Dubstep category even if it has no real "wobbles". As long as it is more focused on the synth used its not Liquid.

Techno:

Again, Techno is very close to tons of other subgenres of Electronic music and lots of people tend to have some random mixture of subgenres. Like the Techno song I posted, the artist is supposedly Tech House.....Techno and House combined. But its general enough for an idea.

Its definitely an aquired taste. Each artist is different as well, so it just depends on who you listen to. Techno does generally have more energy to it, though. Meant more for dancing. Dubstep is the sit back and chill kinda thing. And blast the bass as loud as fucking possible.
