i think it is because i moved the notes in Draw mode, and that apparently made new notes as well. i don't know of any other tool that moves around notes though.

Aah. If you hold too long without moving, it will copy that note and leave the copy in the original spot. The pencil and paintbrush both grab, just gotta be on top of the note you want.
