i have a hard time reading joined text of any kind... guess that's me having such a hard time learning it. (incidentally, though, i actually love typography and want to become better at it)

 

also, i got bored and started working on a simple trap doodle in FL Studio. so far i have 1:30 of drum rhythms and simple sub-bass. i need to figure out how to do synths and vocals for it, though...

 

If you're not using a keyboard and making the synth directly in FL, drag a random sound from the side into the the pattern table, right click, and open up the piano roll to start composing. Alternatively, right click on said sound and go to the "replace" drop down menu, then select one of the plug-ins. You can play about with the sound a lot there whilst still composing your melody in the piano roll, and if it still isn't enough, link it in to a channel in the mixer and play about with it even more.

Oh, and about the vocals. I don't usually play about with my vocals a lot. If I do, I record the vocals in Audacity, import it into a new pattern in FL, link it to a channel in the mixer, and use the vocorder. Recording directly into FL is real pain.

i know how to compose melodies in the piano roll, silly. i meant i'm unsure how to get the sound that i want. this is kind-of what i am aiming for (except my song isn't that good right now):

You could probably replicate the little melody at 00:15 by playing about with SimSynth... I'm not entirely sure about WOOWOOWOOOOO WO WO WOOOWOOO thing, though. It's something I've ever really attempted.
