What if the universe lost its color?

Victoria and Co. pretty much said what I was going to.  The physiology of colour comes from the areas of the material (such as wavelength) and the stimulus of our eye and brain, and the names, and directions of sort are taught to us. :U It's all a mentally crafted thing. With reflection involved.

But, if I were to lose the ability to sense/see colour, I would get rather sad..I like grey and such...But blue is my favourite colour. D: I've actually thought about this before, too. I wouldn't like it.

well i would be pretty darn sad. but its something i could live with. as much as i love colors, i find that there can be just as much beauty in black, grey and white as there is in full color.

Would we remember what color looked like? I mean, would we all be like "omg wtf happened why is everything black and white?!" Or would our memories of color go along with it and we would have no idea what we were ever missing. I don't think I would mind everything in black and white unless I felt the sadness of loosing color and had memories of how it was before. That would drive me mad.

I think most beauty of the Universe comes from it's colors, but I can imagine that we would get used to it.. I mean! just look at the dogs! they also don't see in colors and yet they're so happy! :coco:

( Yes no colors on dog vision is a debunked myth. It is not true... This is for the sake of the joke only.)

You're right. This is how dogs see color:

Most of the universe is, and always has been, cold and black. It’s the small spots illuminated by stars that make it worth looking at.

I see you have walked into today's home decor sections in retail stores as well. :ButtercupLaugh:

But yeah, no. Colour is important to me. Shades of grey or monotone colour schemes affect me more than I'd have thought, I write entire shops/venues/etc off if there are alternatives available over this because lifeless buildings feel uncanny and bleak to me.

All the colors are gone and a replaced by nothing but black, white, and shades.

How would you react if that actually happened? Would you go mad?

Many other mammals don't perceive color in nearly the same way we do, so perhaps the change would not drive one insane, at least not entirely.

It would be an unsettling adjustment to be sure, there'd be some functional adjustments to see to.

But I think our cells would still remember having to make do with far fewer colors, hopefully you'd learn to carry on well enough.

Of course, the entire bandwidth of visible light is just one sector of the Electromagnetic Spectrum.

Next to a pony who could perceive the entirety of it, we must seem color blind already.

And always remember, the color is not out there in the universe.

It starts at the back of your eyes and proceeds through a very peculiar subroutine of your nervous system.

In a sense, all energy is white, grey and black anyway.

What we call color is how temperature differences are sorted out in a way that helps us interact with the environment in an evolutionarily advantageous manner.

What is color?

What is music?

There's no answer to these questions, but I would love to be able to see in X-Ray and Gamma Ray light.

Then you could really see the big booms and fireworks shows throughout the whole universe.

The sky would be a constant trip all the time, like a thousand rainbows powered by the transmission lines!

To be sure it would unnerve me, but I’m not going to lose my mind over something I can’t control, so I would treat it as a color-blind person would; I’d make the best of it and pretend I was in a black and white movie, and assure myself that color still exists somewhere, even if I couldn’t see it.
