Evilshy 5,090 October 19, 2011 Share October 19, 2011 ... Some of my IRL brony friends are the manliest dudes I know my age. I have maybe 4 or 5 IRL brony friends, one lives on a farm and does manly shit all the time, balancing working on the farm (which is really hard work) and college, where he's going for a criminal justice degree. Another works for his dad laying concrete at construction sites, and he also seems to know how to pick up any chick he wants. But he doesnt since he's been going steady with one girl for years, a pretty big accomplishment in itself. Another brony friend isn't quite as manly, but he is really smart and determined as hell. Like, he gets shit done, a lot. He's currently in college out of state, so I haven't seen him in awhile. There's me, and in all humility, I'm pretty manly. My family wanted to save money, so instead of hiring workers, my dad and I built a ~6000 square foot house by ourselves, with some help on the electrical, plumbing and concrete. I do pretty much all the landscaping since my dad has a bad back and has like 50-60 hour work weeks, and my mom has hand problems. Take today... I spent hours chopping wood in the rain while blasting the MLP soundtrack on loop. Also, a lot of my less manly male friends don't like MLP at all. 8 Signature now 99% less edgy! Tiaaaaa 176 October 19, 2011 Share October 19, 2011 It makes sense to a certain degree. People who are insecure about their masculinity will attack anything they think is a threat to it. If they can make other people seem less masculine by comparison then that much better in their own minds. Although I personally watch the show because I'm girly, so maybe I'm a bit of an anomaly. :x

Evilshy 5,090 October 19, 2011 Author Share October 19, 2011 The girliest guys I know are also gay and hate MLP :/ Also, out of all my female friends, only 2 like MLP (possibly a 3rd. We were talking on steam last night and she told me she was watching the first episode and she thought it was ok. I gave her the whole "first 2 episodes introduce the characters but aren't like the rest of the show" talk and she agreed to watch a few other episodes.) the rest have varying degrees of dislike, from "it's not my thing" to "I hate it and if I didn't already know you so well I'd think you were creepy" :/ Signature now 99% less edgy! Apple Bloom 2,933 October 19, 2011 Share October 19, 2011 Masculinity shouldn't even be a factor. A good show is good whether you're manly or not. You just have to be open minded enough to watch it without caring that you're not part of the target audience. As for myself, I think I'm pretty manly but it's not like I try to be. 11 Signature by @Nico. Come join us for movies and more! Yes, and in an ideal world, this would be true. But the world is anything but ideal and it comes up quite a lot I think trying to act manly is usually a sign of not being very manly; real men are already manly enough to be satisfied with their masculinity, and they know it. 2 Signature now 99% less edgy! Slendermane 477 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 Only real men watch shows about unicorns and rainbows. I am a guy and I wouldn't really call myself manly, but I wouldn't call myself feminine either. I am a nerd. I watch anime, collect comic books, and know more about multiverse theory than I do about football. I love animation, and this show has some of the best (American) animation I have seen in years. 4 Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. BizzarePony 199 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 Well, I for one am extremely sure that people who criticize are just the people who'll latch on to anything just for the sake of arguing. I, however, am a reasonable man, and I don't judge. I am comfortable with my masculinity. I really wouldn't be friends with someone who will write something off as "girly" or "gay." In fact, if you use the word "gay" to describe something you don't like, you've just lost al of your credibility. The truth is, our culture is just so focused on self-image that we've been boxed into a prison of our own design. If I can't break free from this prison, then who really am I? A mindless drone? A media slave? No! I will watch and say what I want, because I won't submit. I hope that we all can do the same. That is what Bronyhood is truly about. 7 Brace yourself. Winter is coming. LyraHeartstrings 482 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 I'm not like SUPER MANLY, but I'm not a little wimp. I'm just average... (this is my opinion, not others...) Of course it's girly, Faust wanted it to be for girls, but she wanted it to be enjoyable for everyone. She made it girly enough for girls to watch it, but epic enough to create an entire fandom! And of course, you don't have to be either girly or manly to watch it. Anyone can enjoy it! 4 Why are you dragging your cursor over my signature? Is there a problem here? Do you maybe expect something special? Honestly, that's kind of creepy. Are you trying to get as much information about me as possible? Maybe you're going to copy and paste this into onto your little collage or all things Lyra? (me, not the awesome BG pony...) You seriously have issues dude... I pity you. PlNKlE PIE 364 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 (edited) Being chained to an insecurity revolving around a fear of being criticized, rather than having the courage to be your own individual isn't masculine, it's childish. Edited October 20, 2011 by Pinkie Pie 2 "Well," said Pooh, "what I like best—" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called. Sugar Cube 4,843 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 (edited) Duh. You have to be pretty secure about your own masculinity to enjoy MLP: FiM. I mean, if you're a guy that is. Bronies are manly dudes, I reckon. Edited October 20, 2011 by Sugar Cube
Finesthour 7,287 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 Well if I am able to go to everyone in my school, and they ask me "Are you a brony?" And I say yes and they give me a high five, I say that is a pretty much success.
Octavia2 83 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 The people that critisize us watching MLP are mostly just close - minded. They hear "My Little Pony" and automatically assume that any guy who watches it is gay (so to speak) without giving it a second thought. I'd say you have to be pretty manly to admit to yourself that you love a show meant for little girls!
Petey 34 October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 Personally I am gay, well... Bisexual actually, but gay is a good generic term. My enjoyment of FiM has nothing to do with that, while it may say something about my age at heart it certainly doesn't affect who I am attracted to
