Hall Extension: Opening of the Requests Guild

It is no secret that Creative Resources has been somewhat of a dumping ground for both members and staff alike when trying to find a place to put topics that don't have anything to do with the sections that surround it.

 

Unfortunately, the use of Creative Resources as a 'general purpose' forum for threads that couldn't find a home in the Pony Art boards has turned it in into a mish-mash of art resources, suggestion threads, collaboration topics, contests, and the like. In a bid to mould our vision of Creative Resources as a place where our members can look for tips, tricks and art resources without having to sift through a mountain of request threads, the staff has decided to create a dedicated sub-forum solely for requests.

 

Observant members should have noticed by now the addition of a 'Requests Guild' sub-forum in Octavia's Hall, followed by the mass exodus of about 500 or so topics (about 12 pages worth) from Creative Resources into it. Nothing major has changed to Octavia's Hall, however all new request threads (whether offering or asking) should now go into the Requests Guild.

 

What then, should go into the main Creative Resources board you ask? Well, exactly what it says on the main page description! Members looking for project collaborators, tips and tricks on different art styles, tutorials for using programs, requests for help on a project, art resources that you have created, are all welcome. 

 

For those still unsure about exactly what goes where in Octavia's Hall, look forward to a posting guide that Vexx and I will be releasing shortly.

Since there has also not been an announcement regarding the formerly pinned "Free Signatures for Everypony" and "Free Avatars for Everypony" threads, I figure now would be a good time to make it official. For all those who missed the last post by ~Chaotic Discord~ before the threads were closed, here's the rationale behind it:

 

Well, everypony, today is the day the staff have collectively decided that these pinned topics are no longer worth their weight as being pinned forum resources. The issue is, there are little to no individuals keeping these topics properly up-kept anymore. The thread OP himself has been inactive for eons, and the rest of the signature/avatar makers have either become inactive themselves, retired, or simply forgotten to maintain the place. In the meantime, only a fraction of our latest generation has come into this mossy fortress of signature and avatar making and taking up their ancestors' helm.

On top of that, all of the 'well-known' avatar and signature request makers already have their own threads, or could have them if they weren't volunteering their time to try and keep these threads from falling into chaos with no one taking any of the posted requests. It's unfair to expect them to help out. It's a lot easier to simply let these threads finally have their rest, lay them in the Forum Hall of Memorable Past Threads, and direct people to take the time to from now on look through Creative Resources as a whole, find a signature/avatar request shop they like, and post there.



To any and all who have requested something and have received no response, I highly suggest you do what I mentioned and seek out an individual request shop :3 There are lots of request shops all over CR. Have your pick. There's lots of talented folks.

To any and all who have taken requests, given a request and gotten someone who is making them their request, or gotten their request and wish to express gratitude for the maker, I suggest you finish your interaction via PM or another alternative means

All of your works will never be forgotten Your will to help out make members' time here enjoyable by pimping out their accounts with signatures and avatars is part of what made, and continues to make this community so wonderful. We shall now continue to see this throughout Creative Resources as a whole, in each and ever individual request topic that opens.

Look out individual request shop owners and nomad signature and avatar makers who take requests from 'Can someone make something for me?' threads  You're now our one and only focus!

This would probably be the best things to make sure everything stays organized. I kind of get tired of coming across other threads that aren't strictly the user creating artwork and asking for help for their drawings. :V

As a third and final follow-up to these two changes, Vexx and akita have also been working on a detailed guide for Octavia's hall, that will explain all the sections and what they're used for, in a modern sense. That'll be a locked, pinned info thread in Creative Resources, much like the 'welcome to _____' threads found in Show Discussion, Sugarcube and General Discussion.
