Dzastur 1,719 June 7, 2013 Author Share June 7, 2013 "...but, truth is, I knew that already too." I love this sequence. In a scene directly previous to this screenshot - in which she's bouncing a mug of cider on her head - Applejack looks silly happy. It's a sort of "I knew it / told ya!" happy, and she's earned the right to express it. It's accompanied by harmonica music and everything which symbolizes Applejack as a character; it's her shining moment. The shot above is the coda on the "Dear Princess Celestia, I wanted to share my thoughts with you: I didn't learn anything!" letter, and the animation and sound fit with the sort of triumph she's feeling. Dzastur 1,719 June 8, 2013 Author Share June 8, 2013 "Yes, I do..." The best parts of the Smile, Smile, Smile song are split between Pinkie being on-screen by herself and being on-screen with other ponies who've totally bought into her infectious happiness. I especially like when she gets that determined look during the "there's one thing that makes me happy, and makes my whole life worthwhile" portion, and also when the rest of the Mane 6 show up and carry her around. But I think this screenshot sums up the song pretty well on its own, too. 5 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie
Astrobrony 655 June 8, 2013 Share June 8, 2013 "Always works." This screenshot is just so adorably out-of-character for Fluttershy that you can't help but love it. I just don't know why, but Fluttershy's OOC moments, even brief ones like this, make me smile. 5 Applejack is best pony! Antismurf9001 1,271 June 8, 2013 Share June 8, 2013 This screenshot is probably one of my favorite Fluttershy faces. It approaches (and maybe surpasses) Squeakie Belle levels of adorableness. 6 "Ceterum censeo background ponies delendas esse" - Stellafera Credit for the Octavia vector goes to the awesome Harmonic Revelations Credit for the creation of my avatar and signature goes to the amazing Wubsie Once again, thanks! Dzastur 1,719 June 8, 2013 Author Share June 8, 2013 "This day is yours!" I love Putting Your Hoof Down. The best screenshots probably come from Fluttershy's scenes in the darkness of her house, but there's interesting angles and perspectives throughout this entire episode. The one above is another of those that I feel illustrates the plot of the whole episode pretty well. A mirror + the subject of the mirror in the same shot is a great example of the artists not cutting corners. And right after this is when she goes into "royal Canterlot voice mode" when addressing her little animal friends. Luna would've been impressed. 4 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie
Dzastur 1,719 June 10, 2013 Author Share June 10, 2013 "Get something else on my desk by the end of the day, and it'd better be juicy!" For me, Ponyville Confidential is the "eyes episode." Best drawing and animation of eyes in the series thus far. A well-known example is the screenshot of the CMCs looking bewildered while trying to think of a new Gabby Gums story (it's already been posted in this thread). But the "eyes have it" throughout this show. In the above shot, I like the CMC's gazes in relation to where Diamond Tiara's angry face is while she's getting all up in their business. Extra: for a really excellent animation touch, check out Sweetie Belle's "wow" expression right after Rarity tells her that her friends love Gabby Gums - her eyes actually dance. 1 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie
Winona the Dog 1,984 June 10, 2013 Share June 10, 2013 I don't know about you guys but when Spike did this, It kind of creeped me out a little. I mean slowly his mental state deteriorated giving into his natural dragon instincts and to be honest; the earlier stages like this were much creepier than the later stages when he finally grew up. Not only that but he sticks his tongue out and his eyes blink oddly......God this episode was unsettling.

Dzastur 1,719 June 12, 2013 Author Share June 12, 2013 "But I still want him to be all mine!" Classic Disney. The music, the camera angles, the villain. It's pony-fied homage, and it's done really well. Also, once again, the animators don't shy away from mirrors - which I've mentioned before is one of my favorite touches in the series. 2 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie
dekutree64 713 June 12, 2013 Share June 12, 2013 How's about some more Rarity? This is pretty much the quintessential Rarity shot for me. I love how beautiful she looks without even needing clothes Not quite "refined" enough to put up with the weird taste of fancy foods though I love this expression, while looking ridiculous in all that makeup. The bitter taste of defeat. This scene is more example of the high quality cinematography in the show. The late evening/night sky and dark room giving the feeling of tiredness after a long day, Rarity looking frazzled, Opal makes herself known, and then the pieces of the dress falling just as the song comes to a slow end. Brilliant. And one of the most emotional shots in the entire series, although it really needs the music for full effect:
An Old Head 4,816 June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 Short of just swamping this thread with my hundreds of Pinkie frames, here's a favourite of mine that doesn't involve Pinkie (which are few in number). It's from S1E22. I think this one frame was brilliantly done; look at Twilight's eyes. This scene is where Twilight panics because Fluttershy's unsuccessfully tried to fix up Philomena. Look at how forceful her pupils are and the position of her eyelids; see that little squint under her left eye, and how her mouth curves unnaturally. That's exactly the sort of expression Twilight would adopt; wrought with panicky disbelief but still forced with the need to listen to Fluttershy; but nonetheless stiff with disapproval that one of her friends would endanger her good standing with Celestia. It's not even her angriest expression - but it's great. What also makes this screenshot for me is how Philomena simply sits there without the slightest bit of concern for her own well being It's that little contrast in such a short scene. Now that I think about it, this whole episode is under-appreciated. celestia damn it, this is hilarious, but i don't remember which episode is it from, come on, fellow ponys, can somone tell which episode is it from? its driving me nuts Turns out it's from the same episode - A Bird in the Hoof. That chase scene when Philomena escapes? They find her on a bench afterwards. n.n

Dzastur 1,719 June 14, 2013 Author Share June 14, 2013 "A fear that will never come to pass..." Spike's greatest fear is no longer being Twilight's assistant, and being sent away. It's been demonstrated before, but it's spelled out in plain language in this scene in case anypony was confused. This isn't like his fear of zombies - this is a real fear that's frankly very justifiable, given the position of dragons in the series and how they fit / don't fit within Equestria, or even the simple idea of him getting older (which children can relate to). Showing these two against a dark blue background isn't ideal, but it's absolutely necessary to carry the weight of what Twilight and Spike have just seen, and I think it is done well. It's a good exit from a lump-in-the-throat scene. (Frankly, I find Spike's fear to be one of the most resonant and rather brilliantly understated themes in the series. I sure hope there aren't any villains out there who could leverage that fear against him and use it for evil purposes - I'm lookin' at you, Chrysalis.) 6 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie

dekutree64 713 June 14, 2013 Share June 14, 2013 Time for an all Twilight post This is one of the most awesome scenes in the show to me. The music, the horn effect, and the ground itself crushed beneath her hooves. From this and other moments, it appears levitation just links the object physically to the caster, so either Twilight has legs of steel, or she's also casting on herself to prevent being crushed. This is a great character detail shot, Twilight showing her OCD for organization This one does a nice job of capturing the mindless, but fairly happy at the time, feeling of sleep deprivation. And Pinkie's like "uh oh, I better just stick with her, cause I sure as heck can't make her stop..." I love how Twilight's dream of the gala has nothing to do with the actual gala, and everything to do with Princess Celestia. This shot sums it up nicely, with the big ballroom and fancy dress, but only two ponies in the world Reality has friends around, but just as much happiness. And another good Twilestia moment. All the others are busy watching the action, and Twilight's just like "screw that, Celly needs me!"
Super Derpy 535 June 15, 2013 Share June 15, 2013 My favorite screenshot is at the beginning of Dragonshy when everyone does a different pose when they are preparing to go fight the dragon. Pinkie Pies pose is just hilarious and is classic Pinkie Pie. Its just goofy and something you weren't expecting. Another one of my favorites is at the very beginning of The Mysterious Mare Do Well with the Rainbow Dash fan club. I just find it sort of cute that all those ponies idolize Rainbow Dash. 2 Thanks to LittleRawr for the signature! Dzastur 1,719 June 15, 2013 Author Share June 15, 2013 "...that's how I'm able to have fun in two places at once!" This expression on Pinkie is initially a bit of a puzzler, given the scene. If the artist had decided to go the safe, tried and true route, you'd have expected her to be either in wide-eyed fun mode, or maybe with her eyes closed and a big smile, conveying a sense of pride for her, um, multiplicity skills. But instead we get something more subtle, as I think she's looking for Rainbow Dash's approval re: her meddling in the pond because she's already seeing some cracks in her plan. There's a bit of "pony who ate the canary" at work here. 2 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie

Dzastur 1,719 June 15, 2013 Author Share June 15, 2013 (edited) Ate the canary? Why would a pony eat a canary? Sorry - that's my fault. It's a mega-outdated expression. Dzastur 1,719 June 19, 2013 Author Share June 19, 2013 "...and I wanna be heard from!" Sleepless in Ponyville has some of the best art direction in the series, I think. It's chock full of new backgrounds and off-kilter camera angles. This screenshot isn't that remarkable in terms of artistic value, but it's more of a curiosity: Scootaloo doing something reminiscent of a certain would-be mentor's "sonic rainboom". Which brings us to three undeniable (wink) conclusions, 1. Scootaloo is adorable, 2. Rainbow Dash will become her big sister, and 3. she's going to eventually rule the ground the way Dash rules the sky. 1 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie
Dzastur 1,719 June 21, 2013 Author Share June 21, 2013 "We'll be an unstoppable team, ma'am." Wonderbolt Academy was the first episode of MLP: FiM I saw. I don't need to say too much about the episode itself because it's been commented on ad nauseam by others, and rightfully so - it's a standout. I like this screenshot because it establishes the crux of the conflict between Rainbow Dash, the prevailing attitude at the academy, and her deciding how she's going to deal with it. Love the colors used here.
