Are there limits to Chrysalis's mind control?

She was able to control Lyra and Bon Bon when they were her brides maids. You think she is capable of cf controlling strong willed ponies like Rainbow Dash, Twilight, Cadence and even dare I say it.....Celestia?

I don't think Chrysalis would be able to mind control ponies with strong minds. Since they will be trying to resist and ultimately succeed, Chrysalis would need a plan to mind control them. She would have to catch them off guard. Basically, Chrysalis wouldn't be able to mind control them because of resistance and strong capability.

Chrysalis was able to mind control Shining Armor fairly easy and he's the captain of the Royal Guards so I guess he's pretty headstrong, but the thing was that she was disguised as Cadence so that was kind of unexpected. I'm not sure if she could mind control Princess Celestia that easy, that's kind of a question I need to ask myself.

Wasn't it Colgate, Lyra and ... can't remember... but I know for a fact Bonbon wasn't one of the bridesmaids. Anyhow, we are shown one of the limits to Chrysalis's mind control. It has to be renewed frequently. That is why Fake!Cadence was so adamant about SA not wearing his favorite uncle's clothes, even though "This Day Aria" makes it clear she couldn't care less... it was just her way of making sure he wasn't breaking free of her control. If he was disagreeing with her, she knew it was fading... the mental struggle also caused his headache, which gave her the perfect excuse to cast the spell on him again. Fridge brilliance.

 

So I think there are limits, but she can overcome those limits by being clever... just like Nen users from the Hunter X Hunter manga.

Actually is there any reason that her 3 bridesmaids were not actually changelings that were there earlier? I know the forcefield stoppped intruders from getting in once it was in place but Chrysalis and likely the 3 changelings as her bridesmaids were there before that. After all their eyes glowed green indicating that they could be changelings just like Chrysalis.

I'm pretty sure they were ponies and not Changelings and that the 3 were being mind controlled.

 

1. Why would they take the form of 3 ponies that happened to be bridesmaids? They should have just been in the changeling form and not pony forms.

 

2. Why would they be interested in catching the bouquet? Why would they want something like that when they are about to get food.

 

3. Shining Armors eyes were glowing green because he was under mind control.

 

As for the question I think Chrysalis can control weak minded ponies. They are just easier to control.

   I agree with Chaotic Lightning when he states that Chrysalis' mind control is limited to weak-minded life forms. However, I also believe her ability to mind-control improves greatly the more powerful she becomes. Meaning she can control more ponies at a time, and ponies of higher intelligence.

I think it depends on the circumstances.  She can't just walk up to a random pony and take them over.  If she had relevant information or substituted in for a loved one, she could take over all but the diarchs and mane 6.

You guys forget that changelings take the form of the loved ones of the target they are controlling, so there is some major shipping ideas that will arise from this theory, but changelings must get very close to those they wish to control, some speculate that changeling mind control magic takes full effect when the changeling kisses its target.

 

So Chrysy must have gotten extremely close to Armour in order to brainwash him for forced feeding.

Again they find target who are in relationships of sorts to feed on. Yes changelings can feed on emotions other than love, but in order for them to take control of any of the mane6, there would have to be some major "dream guy" characters who will try to do the mind controling.

If only they had either of these as surprise S4 plots. Just imagine if they had an unannounced Changeling episode withouot all the plot leak to the community like they always do.

.....you forget this is a show originally designed for little girls, i dont think they would use those *cough* ships *cough* for their show

I think that it depends on a person's mental structure. Chrysalis van mind control anyone if she can get In close enough and spend enough time with them.

 

 

Then there's the matter that her spell doesn't last forever. Like someone said when Shining Armor disagreed with her that meant the spell was waring off and she needed to renew it or else SA would have broken free of her mental powers.

 

The migraines Shining Armor had was probably his mind trying to fight back at Chrysalis's mind control.

I think that with the other characters, if she could, she would have.  So likely the extent to which she can do mind control is probably no more or less than what we saw her doing onscreen.
