You think villains reforming will be a repeating thing

Whether or not we get new villains, or see old friends return in seasons 4 and 5. I don't want anymore reformations. It made sense for Discord because Discord was never evil to begin with. Characters like Chrysalis and Sombra are evil incarnate. Chrysalis feeds off love, she's a parasite. It's what she has to do to survive and her nature will never changed. If they reform Chrysalis I will kill myself not once....but twice. Can you kill yourself two times? I don't know but I will find a way if it comes to that

*Looks up from picture of Gilda getting reformed by Rainbow Dash and smiles*

Well, I'm not so sure about that. I sort of disagree on the point that Discord wasn't evil; even if he didn't realize how great it is to have friends that actually care about you, he still didn't horrible, malicious things and ruled over ponies and made them suffer before being cast out by Celestia and Luna. He also clearly took glee in his evil and mischief.

Regardless, I don't know if they'll do it again. I do know that they will probably introduce new antagonists if needed, although I won't strike out the possibility of seeing Lightning Dust, Gilda, Flim and Flam, or other assorted antagonists again.

I also think there are already topics like this, so prepare to get merged.

I don't really think it will be a repeating thing, because if they keep repeating it, they will run out of villains unless they come up with ideas for new villains. Plus, it would be too predictable every time they reform a villain. It could be good in some cases if it is a least favorite villain but, it would bad in some cases if the villain is highly liked then it would result in something different.

Only one guy has been reformed, guys.

Trixie doesn't count. All she did was apologize for being a dictator. Maybe her apology marks a gradual change, but as if now, all that's changed is that she isn't vengeful.

They just "reformed" Discord so they can make him even more like Q. For half of TNG, he wasn't technically a villain. He was a sometimes ally (in the loosest sense) and constant troll, a role I see Discord falling into.

I'm on the fence when it comes to Trixie. I don't know if they're implying that she will now be a better pony and stop going around lying and humiliating ponies for her act, or whether she was just apologizing for her terrible actions at the time and her little "Great and Apologetic Trixie" thing was showing that she truly hasn't changed but simply isn't looking for revenge against Twilight and her friends.

Regardless, I don't count Trixie as a reformation either, so perhaps that's a moot point.

it doesn't look like reformation is gonna be a repeating topic. even if they brought back sombra, that makes only 2 villains to reform at the moment.

I do agree that more reformations are unneccesary. we could use more villains though. maybe not to the degree of having a rogues gallery of mlp bad guys. so far the only external threat I see is if chrysalis ever decides to come back.

wouldn't luna count as well?

I imagine Luna becoming all hipsterish about her reformation and looking at Discord like:

Luna: Punk, I got reformed two seasons before you, get on my level!

*Luna puts on shades*

Regardless, I think the whole reforming thing is a strange way to put it anyway. Like, what if Lightning Dust came back, her and Dash fought, but then they realized they were both being stupid and they made up. Would that be a reformation? Sure, Lightning Dust wasn't the nicest pony, but if she came around on her own and changed her ways, is that reformation?

Naw I don't think so, the show has only had Discord and Luna reformed technically, sure Trixie apologized  but well she wasn't reformed or anything, she just was showing she was sorry for taking things to far.

I don't think it'll be all that common though, just because 2 have been reformed means nothing really.

...yeah. Maybe. But her character was written to be redeemed within one episode.

I'm just a bit tired of people accusing the show of going on a reforming/redeeming spree.

even if people count trixie's comeback as a redemption, that only makes 3 instances in the whole series. that was more of a change of heart anyways

Oh, I hope not. That Discord reform episode was downright silly (not in the good way).

I really don't think it will happen. Not because of any continuity within the universe, but I think the MLP creative team knows better than to reuse that concept. I think the only reason they did it for Discord was an excuse to bring him back, as a salute to the bronies.

They did kind of "reform" Trixie, but I think that was more of a clarification of her character, since she wasn't all that well written in Boast Busters.

Well how many Villains do they have to reform?

I mean Discord and Trixie are somewhat  better off now even though they aren't really reformed per say. One of them just apologized while the other promised to stop being a jackass most of the time.

Luna got EoH blasted so her NMM self wont be coming back unless they hint it. King Sombra is confirmed to be dead canon wise and Chrysalis pretty much shows no chance of being in the same boat.

The only two left would be Gilda and the Flim Flam brothers (Who don't really need to be reformed anyway) I only see Gilda being the only one who NEEDS to at least get another shot at because she's like the griffin version of Trixie........only less show-offy. Not to mention this could give us more insight on the griffon race as well as Rainbow Dash's fillyhood past.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few villains come back. However, I don't want characters such as Chrysalis or Sombra to be reformed. These characters are supposed to be pure evil. Sure, it doesn't work like that in real life, but here, I feel that the villains will be cheapened by their becoming good.

Minor characters like Gilda could work, but I'm not too interested in them, personally. Bringing back a a character from two years ago probably isn't too high on the producers' agenda, either. However, I would like to see something new happen with Diamond Tiara.

I honestly couldn't see Discord changing at first. That was a big shock to me. But maybe he's actually just more mischievous than he is evil kinda like Mister Mxyzptlk from Superman.

I don't think that will happen. Well, I certainly hope not! It would just seem lame and repetitive. Also, not  very good sign that the writers of the show are running out of fresh new ideas and have to start recycling characters. Ouch. That wouldn't be so good... unsure.png

Why are we forgetting about Nightmare Moon? Are some people still under the convoluted belief that she is Chrysalis or something? Luna was reformed, if we get technical, as well as Discord. And no, Trixie doesn't count. Being a condensing antagonist doesn't necessarily make one a villain.

I actually think it's quite possible more villains will be reformed and I'm not sure if they can really pull it off. It will be interesting to see if they do reform new, future villains, but not Chrysalis or Sombra. I have a theory that since they showed both of those characters causing fear and misery, they cannot be reformed. Ever notice we didn't really see how sad ponies were the first time Nightmare Moon tried to take control? Or why we don't see mass amounts of ponies truly suffering from Discord's antics? I think the fact that they showed both the changelings and Sombra putting other ponies in bondage and causing terror/misery, will make them too evil for children to ever think they could be reformed.

However, in some cultures, villains never get killed or defeated in fairy tales, I'm curious if MLP will try to advocate this. For instance one Japanese rendition of Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf apologizes and promises to be good from now on... and this was after the people to whom he is giving the apology have had to slice their way out of his belly! I'm very interested to see if MLP tries to do this. I highly doubt they would, but it's one of the things I'm really counting on seeing how it pans out as the series progresses.

Nightmare Moon was my very favorite villain. She was just so awesome. I'd love to see her again. Although I'd say Queen Chrysalis  made the best villain. Pure evil as well as super powerful. Not even Princess Celestia was able to stand up to her iirc.

Hopefully not. Even though I liked Keep Calm and Flutter On, I'm still going to miss Discord's villainous side. And reformation or not, letting Trixie get away with taking over Ponyville with just an apology is stupid. Besides, Chrysalis is still evil in the comics, and I doubt the show will change that.

I would like to see Lightning Dash and Gilda hook up and become friends the way Rainbow and Pinkie did. It would feel almost organic if they initially sought revenge against Rainbow together, but then decided they had a bond beyond vengeance. Of course, that would be a purely fanwank episode.

There really aren't a lot of characters that simultaneously need to be reformed and can reasonably be reformed.

I doubt it. Discord is the only reformation they've had. No, I don't really count Nightmare Moon/Luna. Nightmare Moon was defeated, not reformed. It comes across almost like a split personality, especially given that the moment she's Luna again, she is INSTANTLY regretful and just wants to be with her sister again. So in my mind, she wasn't reformed. The part of her that was Nightmare Moon was destroyed by the Elements.

But that's just me.
