Why is Rainbow Dash not in the Equestria Games?

I mean it seems odd that she is just looking forward to being a spectator.  She should be a participant.  As the fastest pegasus in Equestria, there should be SOME distance where she is competitive in their equivalent of track and field sprinting.  I mean at the Canterlot Wedding she went from 0 to rainboom speed in a relatively short time.  In a sprint race, just who is going to beat that?

She isn't the fastest not even close, if she was it would have been pointed out by someone who isn't just her friend and the delusion that she is is based on the fact that she is a main character so of course episodes are gonna show off how fast she can go over other Pegasi.

Well for one the games are being held in The Crystal Empire, so presumably they'd only let crystal ponies participate.

 

If not then I'm not sure, perhaps she'd rather watch others do sport for once?

The focus of Games Ponies Play was just making sure that the Empire got to host the Games. I don't recall Dash ever saying that she was just going to be a spectator. Granted, she also never said she was participating, but I'm pretty sure that when Ponyville is selecting athletes to represent the town/region of Central Equestria, I'm sure she would be at the top of the list.

She is the only Pegasus that has ever done a sonic rainboom, which is caused by going very fast. If other ponies are faster than her, why aren't they all doing sonic rainbooms? Also, she's won the best young flier competition, and on numerous occasion proven to be faster than other fliers. 

 

For instance, why couldn't any of the other wonderbolts catch that pie at the Gala? How is it, Rainbow, from across the room, sees the pie headed for the ground and catches it? If she is not the fastest flier in Equestria it's safe to say she is at least in the top ten. It has been said by other ponies including Spitfire (one of the main reasons I don't understand Wonderbolt Academy , and I think even Celestia. This isn't a biased opinion. Faust herself wanted Rainbow Dash to be a good enough flier to be a wonderbolt, and honestly I don't know why she isn't yet. She broke a bunch of academy records, she can make her own mini tornado, and she rarely spins out or bumps into anything. It's safe to say she IS a great flier, if not the best.

 

I have no idea why she wouldn't be in the games. It's totally possible that she would be though. It's not like they've said she isn't. My best guess if she is not in the games is there is some sort of age limit, or it does not involve flying. Maybe earth/Pegasus ponies would think it was racist or something

So you think there are other pegasi who can do a sonic rainboom.  It was essentially myth/legend.  That she can do such a thing should put her into the running for a speed event of some kind.  I do not put her in the 100/200 category though.  400/800 is where I think she would function in whatever equivalent the pegasi fly.

She's more than qualified to be a Wonderbolt in physical ability- it's in her personality flaws and such her issues lies. The Bolts are a team, and she likes to be the main star(which is not the point of the Bolts- this is why being a Wingpony is really the right position to give her).

 

 

Likewise, Lightning Dust is overqualified in the physical ability department as well... but lacks the proper mindset for Bolt.

Actually I think she is proving that she no longer lacks the proper mindset for being a Wonderbolt.  In the first season that was indeed the case but by wonderbolt academy she has proven that she has grown up quite a bit.

1) There's nothing in the episode saying RD *isn't* going to compete.

 

2) There is a good chance that the Equestria Games, like the Olympics, occurs every couple of years rather than every year, and the location is selected and announced far in advance. In which case the one in the Crystal Empire may be still a ways off and RD isn't thinking about competing yet, just nailing down the location.

 

3) There are weird rules about who can and cannot compete in the Olympics that change every once in awhile. At one point professional athletes were not allowed to compete in the Olympics. At another point I vaguely remember there being age limits on certain events. In which case, Rainbow Dash might need to make a choice: Wonderbolts *or* the Equestria Games, as she would not be allowed to do both, or she might technically outside the allowed age range.

 

4) Athletes may require a sponsor to compete in the Equestria Games, similar to various RL events, and perhaps RD did not have a sponsor. With Princess Twilight on the stage now, that's probably changed.

1. In the "Wonderbolt Derby, which is literally just an internal speed competition. And that still doesn't change the fact that they are primarily acrobats.

She's also the only proven supersonic flier(no, not even Lightning Dust has that until she pulls her version of the Rainboom). She has faster reaction->action speed than any other flier we've seen. Her wing power is more than twice the regular flier(and more than 150% of that shown by the other WB academy recruits). Her and Lightning Dust breaking academy records with their speed. Celestia herself saying RD is the best flier in Equestria(and the Wonderbolt's, again being HER team).

 

Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust are both far faster than the current Wonderbolt team. It's blatantly shown.

If the Equestrian Games actually happen in-show, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some time gets dedicated to Rainbow training to be in them, whether with the Wonderbolts or individually.

Those are all good thoughts.  One more idea is that Rainbow Dash hates the fact that the Equestria Games rejected Cloudsdale's bid to host the games.  Maybe RD has a strong grudge against this particular competition and refuses to participate.  But after she righted that wrong by helping the Crystal Empire get the games, maybe she'll decide to get involved now?

I guess she decided not to participate in the Equestria Games after Cloudsdale getting the bad news of not being able to host the games, instead Filidelphia earned the right to host the games. She wanted to make it so at least the Crystal Empire was able to host this years games. It is almost better then not getting what you wanted, almost.

I dunno, I think maybe she just wasn't interested in it, maybe shes not really wanting to after cloudsdale being rejected for hosting them.

 

Maybe she just would rather be her own and just doesn't want to take the time to get involved.

It could be that she will and its just that they haven't happend and it'll be featured in another episode maybe?

I don't think that's how it works. They're the Equestria Games, and they seem kinda like the Olympics. It doesn't matter where they're held, anyone can participate.
