While it may seem as if a monumental chapter is over - and it is - as you pointed out, ends bring about new beginnings. As a community member, a moderator, an administrator, a leader, and a friend, you are irreplaceable. We're all special in our own little ways, and the legends of the seemingly limitless amount of positive energy you brought to the Poniverse staff and community will live on in more conversations than are possible to count for months and years to come. You've left one hell of a legacy in the community, and I daresay you've changed at least a few hundred very real, human lives for the better.

 

Those endless nights making MySQL's cache work better, kicking IP.Board to behave itself, and keeping tabs on every attack that came our way... leading the charge on a number of projects large and small, technical and social alike... and between it all, never managing to lose sight of the top-notch community that led you here in the first place. Your infectious laugh accompanied every step of the way, embodying the spirit of love, joy, and friendship that this community was founded with. I think we'll all miss it. I know I will.

 

Beyond your service to the community, you were a new friend to me unlike anyone I had ever met before. From our shared tastes in science fiction to a mutual passion for elaborate worlds and keen interests in tech, you were to me a guide, a mentor, a pal, and a shoulder to cry on, often all at once. Your words of encouragement and advice played a large role in my own little quest to figure out what development was all about, and my decision to devote the foreseeable future of my life to it.

 

But it's true: the art of software development exists not for itself, but in service of our very much human society. Writing code for its own sake is a soulless, mind-numbing endeavour, reminiscent of lame school projects that exist purely to pad the teacher's marks book at the end of term. It is only when paired with a tangible, real-life need that affects real people's lives that the true beauty of coding gets to shine - and the result makes our crappy world that much better.

 

Software doesn't really exist. People do. Good software connects people to other people, be it a game connecting a player to the creator's vision, a DAW connecting an artist to the sound of their own music... or a forum connecting My Little Pony fans to other My Little Pony fans. And it is these connections that really make it worth it. That moment when an eager listener smiles at the sight of a crafty pony music search engine. That moment when an avid roleplayer smiles at being able to put their character's name beside its dialogue. That moment when a guy with an idea smiles upon being able to reach out to a kind, supportive community to realize an ambitious project that only brings more great people together.

 

That moment when one single smiling person takes the time out of their day to thank you, as just another fellow human being, for making a new experience possible, be it an experience with discovering new content or discovering new friends. That moment that brings out a little smile of your own, proving irrefutably that your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

 

These moments are priceless. These moments are the reason that we spend thousands of hours waddling around every nook and cranny of this community, fixing up what's broken and cultivating new seeds wherever we can. The particular seed you planted grew into an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind rose, and the joy it brought will forever live on in the hearts of everyone who values a good time with their fellow fans.

I hope I'm not too late to tell how much I'll miss you, even though I never actually got to talk to you much or getting to know you.

 

We'll all miss you dearly, and we all hope that you'll stick with us till the end even if you're not an Admin anymore. You are and will always be my favorite admin, and I hope we'll see each other again very soon.

I never got to know you (I think I was inactive when this resignation was posted), but I really wish I had. This is so deep that I was compelled to at least write a short twitter message to Feld0 thanking him for creating this site such that I had the oppertunity to see this amazing, amazing post. This is much deeper than that one, somewhat deep fan fiction I recall reading at one point (If anyone's interested, click here . I'm so glad I bookmarked that. In case for any reason fimfiction.net is inaccessible, HERE is a hastebin.com copy of the fiction.
