After the Emerald War came to a close after Rayquaza intervened at the Battle of Sootopolis, sending Groudon and Kyogre back to their lairs for a slumber, and Rayquaza's chosen hero went on to challenge the Elite Four, Teams Magma and Aqua retreated to their bases in Mt. Chimney and Lilycove Harbour respectively. In the following years, they continued activity underground as the Hero of Sootopolis settled into the champion role. Unfortunately, with such a young, mostly untested champion leading the region, Magma and Aqua were given the chance to expand and grow underground once again, and have again reached heights of power they once held, together even rivaling the strength of those warriors of Ever Grande Island. 
 
The coup d'etat was noisy, but in the end, the Teams Magma and Aqua managed to work together long enough to overthrow the Ever Grande Regime, despite the popularity of the Elite Four. 
 
Since then, the Gym Leaders of Hoenn have been forced to, or have chosen willingly, to ally themselves with one team or another as the Hoennese Civil War began, between Team Aqua based in Lilycove, and Team Magma in Mt. Chimney. The war has been raging for some time, and major incidents include the Great Petalburg Flood and the Fortree Arsony. Gym Leaders Norman and Winona have relocated to Oldale Town and Mt. Pyre respectively.

The Cave of Origin has been sealed, oddly, in Sootopolis, and the floating city of Pacifilog has achieved independence mainly because both teams are terrified of the pillar that rests in the sea right next to it.
 
Norman, Gym Leader of Oldale Town, has tried to keep Oldale and Littleroot neutral in the wars. Against his wishes, Magma and Aqua have been fighting in the area, each attempting to take Norman's little safe haven.
 
The former Elite Four: Sidney, Phoebe, Glacia, and Drake, have all disappeared off the face of the earth. They are rumored dead or captured.
 
Former Champions Steven, Wallace, and Brendan have disappeared as well, yet the populace seems less certain as to their specific fates.
 
 
Now that you know recent Hoennese history, now it's time for you to assume your role. Magma and Aqua are each attempting to now gain the upper hand. Both teams are too afraid to attempt to summon the gods of Sea and Earth again. They have new goals now. And it's up to you to take a side, or else thwart them. 
 
Many trainers around the world have recently spotted two majestic Pokemon speeding across the globe, one red, one blue. None can explain their recent activity, but Latios and Latias seem to have a method to their madness. Some trainers in the paths they fly have been receiving visions, those of a desperate plea for help. These trainers... Are the ones destined to bring resolution to the Hoenn Civil War, and may even save the world by doing so.

RULES:
 

1. Absolutely no godmodding or instant hits. That goes for everything, from Pokémon battles to a hotdog-eating competition.
2. In extension, no controlling characters or Pokémon that aren't yours.
3. Whatever Pokemon you start with should be native to whatever region you're from. You may bring up to three pokemon from your native region to Hoenn, and none of them may be third form Pokemon. 
4. Final form Pokémon found in the wild are too powerful to catch early on in the RP, and middle form Pokémon, such as Flaaffy and Pidgeotto will present a formidable challenge, but will be catchable. Generally it's easier to catch a Pokémon if you bond with it first, like tends to happen in the Anime. 
5. Do not think it necessary to evolve all your Pokémon to their final forms. Look at the Anime. Most trainers you see will often not evolve their Pokémon all the way, and they still end up being fairly powerful. Look at Totodile and Squirtle. If you're imaginative enough, things should work out for you.
6. No person or Pokémon is perfect. Remember that they all have their flaws.
7. No legendary encounters. You are, by extension, not allowed to own a legendary pokemon, or a semilegendary such as Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, Salamence, Hydreigon or Garchomp. Non-fully evolved Pokémon of those family trees are okay.
8. Keep in mind a Pokémon's natural disposition. None but the strongest trainers would be able to tame a Gyarados and hope to remain alive. 
9. Romance is allowed, but don't get carried away with it. Same goes for alcohol.
10. Trading and battling other simmers is allowed. I'll provide a judge and will regulate the action.
11. Don't use your Pokémon to threaten or injure people. That's Team Magma's job. And Team Aqua's, I suppose. Unless, you know, you're just as horrible a person as most members of Team Aqua or Magma. Or just really friggin hate that guy.
12. If you have any ideas on what to do with the roleplay, please do not hesitate to let me know.  I'm always open to ideas.

This RP will be paced rather slowly at times. As DM, I'll be controlling all NPCs and the environment of routes and cities and everything. If you're not patient enough for a slowly-paced RP, or not willing to commit, then don't sign up. This is likely to be lengthy.

 

The Gym Challenge is still available, despite the war, and there being no Elite Four to challenge after receiving the eight badges. The Gym Leaders will likely be hostile if you've allied with the other Team, and will attempt to sway you towards their own if you've remained neutral.

 

Same goes for the contests, held quite often in Slateport, Verdanturf, Fallarbor, Pacifilog and Lilycove.

It took all the effort in the world to get my parents to move to Olivine, but we eventually did. I just...love being near water. I can't explain it."

"My dearest ambition is to become a gym leader someday, but for now I'll settle for becoming a powerful trainer. Winning isn't everything, it's about forming a bond with your Pokemon."

"I've crossed the Union Cave and taken the subway in Goldenrod City over to Kanto, but I haven't really taken the time to complete the Indigo League challenge. I hope to someday, though. For now, I'll focus on strengthening the bonds between me and my Pokemon until we're unstoppable."

"Funny thing you ask that. I'm 6' 3", with short black hair and long bangs. I wear black shades, my eyes are a light, vibrant shade of blue, and you can normally find me wearing anything black and frost blue. I carry around my gray, red, and black messenger bag everywhere I go, with the words "UnderOATH" and "On The First Warning" branded on the flap."

Have you traveled before, practicing your craft in other regions? I have not stepped off the land of Hoenn, not even to the cities of Sootopolis, or to Mossdeep.

Which Pokemon do you call your closest friends? My friends are amazing. Shuppet is usually the prankster, but she is extremely loyal! Then comes my next partner, Kirlia! She's a bit shy, but can pull out the moves in the clutch!

UPDATE ON MAJOR CHANGES IN HOENN SINCE BRENDAN ASCENDED TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

 

The Cycling Road between Slateport and Mauville collapsed during recent fighting in the area. The house known as the Trick House was crushed. The area has become a no-man's land. Skirmishes are common. A new path was forged between Slateport City and Oldale Town recently to encourage trade and influence in the region.

 

A large settlement has been founded on the west end of the bay in which Mt. Pyre lies. Pyre City is filled mainly with refugees from Fortree. 

 

Littleroot Canal nears completion.

 

Ever Grande City is a ruin of its former self. Rustboro City shows obvious signs of recent bombings. 

 

The Weather Institute was spared from the burning of Fortree City, despite its proximity.

 

The tram that brings people to the mouth of the volcano Mt. Chimney has been sabotaged and broken. The only way up is through heavily monitored Jagged Pass.

As a trainer, I want to explore as much of the world as I can, and meet all kinds of different Pokemon. The promise of getting into a good fight every now and then along the way is a nice bonus, though.

I've travelled through Orre a bit, but that's pretty much it. (If you aren't familiar with the Orre region, you're missing out on the two best Pokemon games)

Which Pokemon do you call your closest friends?

I have two Pokemon that I never go anywhere without: My Magmar, Perry, and my Electabuzz, Julius. They've been with me for almost my entire life, and are almost like brothers to me.

What do you look like?

Short and stout, with shaggy brown hair and a bushy mustache. It's because of the mustache that people usually think I'm older than I am.

In Pokemon Colosseum (and the sequel Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness), the Orre region is a barren region of mostly desert with virtually no Pokemon living in the wild. Because of this, some criminals take to using something called a snag machine to steal Pokemon from their trainers in the middle of a battle. It's the most interesting setting in the Pokemon universe in my opinion.

What is your dearest ambition? I'm a trainer, of course. My plan was to challenge the Unova league but...well I wasn't strong enough to get all 8 badges. Since then I've trained almost every day in order to get stronger. It's been a while since I've challenged a gym though.
Have you traveled before, practicing your craft in other regions? Yes. My training has taken me around Unova and even to Sinnoh for a short time. I'm looking forward to exploring Hoenn, though I hear a lot of crime has sprung up in the last few years.
Which Pokemon do you call your closest friends? That would be these three here; Larvesta, Krokorok, and Luxray. Krokorok has been with me since I first became a trainer. I caught him as a Sandile and we've been friends ever since. He's rather lax and docile but becomes a fighting machine when enraged. He prizes the black sunglasses I gave him as he always wears them. Next is Larvesta. I hatched him from an egg I got at a Pokemon daycare egg giveaway. He's very calm, even during battle. He's far from evolving and probably needs some more training. Last but certainly not least is Zoroark. He's very mischievous and constantly uses his illusions to trick people both in and out of battle.

Definitely not. I can't stand Pokemon Ranger. If you have a means of playing gamecube games, you should really look into Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. They're more story driven than the main series, and they're unique in that all the battles are double battles, which allows for a lot more interesting strategy.

 Some of their moves seem a bit powerful. But I can live with it.

 

Oh my....This is not what I was expecting at all. This is like some Pokemon Conquest stuff. I like it, an elseworld sequel of Ruby and Sapphire.

What is your dearest ambition? I'm a trainer, of course. My plan was to challenge the Unova league but...well I wasn't strong enough to get all 8 badges. Since then I've trained almost every day in order to get stronger. It's been a while since I've challenged a gym though.

Have you traveled before, practicing your craft in other regions? Yes. My training has taken me around Unova and even to Sinnoh for a short time. I'm looking forward to exploring Hoenn, though I hear a lot of crime has sprung up in the last few years.

Which Pokemon do you call your closest friends? That would be these three here; Larvesta, Krokorok, and Luxray. Krokorok has been with me since I first became a trainer. I caught him as a Sandile and we've been friends ever since. He's rather lax and docile but becomes a fighting machine when enraged. He prizes the black sunglasses I gave him as he always wears them. Next is Larvesta. I hatched him from an egg I got at a Pokemon daycare egg giveaway. He's very calm, even during battle. He's far from evolving and probably needs some more training. Last but certainly not least is Zoroark. He's very mischievous and constantly uses his illusions to trick people both in and out of battle.

Moves: Sing, Refresh, Peck, and Dream Eater

Swablu was a gift from a friend. Haven't had him for that long. But, he's really sweet.

I caught Absol myself. He doesn't seem to like battling much, though. He will battle, but seems to hold back. He's also really serious...

I've started the RP. Your first post should be about arriving in Hoenn by whichever means you prefer, or if you're already in Hoenn, about you stepping out into the world. Mention the vision you were granted, about the young man on the legendary dragon Rayquayza's back asking for your help, in the name of Hoenn. I don't care which city you choose to arrive in, but make it accurate. There aren't any airports, so you'll have to arrive by birdback or by sea.

@@Glaceon, It probably won't come into play until later but how far should I take Zoroark's illusions? I know Zoroark can't transform like Mew or Ditto but they can make some pretty convincing illusions. According to Bulbapedia;

They can, however, make convincing illusions of attacks, and these illusions are extremely realistic, to the point that even cameras are fooled and one may believe they're being physically affected, though the illusion does not have any direct physical effect.

So before I'm having Zoroark grow 50 ft tall and smash a poor Taillow into the ground I wanna know what I can do with the illusions. And I haven't watched the Zoroark movie so I have no idea how the illusions worked there.

I think one of the anime characters owns a Zorua. Anyway... In the movie, Zoroark conjured up pictures of other many other pokemon at once, and attacks and stuff that people all believed, like floods, lightning strikes, and lava flowes even destroying the city. But that was a very powerful Zoroark, and none of the things Zoroark's illusions attacked were actually damaged, even though it made them look like they were. Besides, this Zoroark should not be that powerful. Try and keep the illusions small-scale, okay?

And I approve of those movesets. I didn't really require that you devise any this time anyway. People just decided to do it anyway.

 

As always, I'll reward ingenuity on the battlefield with favorable results. You've seen Ash's tactics in battle (in the later series; he got through Kanto on dumb luck) and out-of-the-box thinking will always get you somewhere with me as DM.
