"Get ready buddy. This will be our first fight in this region, so let's make sure that we get off on the right foot." Cal said to Sol confidently, both of them eagerly awaiting to see what the thug would make his Mightyena do. Sol ignited his blaze to show that he was ready for anything that would be thrown at him.

"I forgot how bad this place was..." Stella said quietly. Though her voice was a bit indifferent. Absol seemed to stiffen in the area. While the other two remained indifferent. They had been here before, after all. "Well, no need to wait around. Lets keep going." The girl said. After all, there was nothing here. And she wanted to go to Slateport as soon as possible. From this point on, Stella was actually unaware of what the area was like. This could be fun.

"I remember seeing some huge pokemon here once. I wonder if we'll see any." Stella said. She truthfully didn't want to see any.

Riolu wanted to punch that guy right in the face with a dual chop, but Octavia hushed him down. "Listen, he wants us to leave. Let's leave." Octavia turned to the grunts. "Oh, um, just two things before we go. Is the museum going to open tomorrow, and are their any good battle sites? I really am itching to have a battle with a good trainer! It's been months since i've had my last battle."

"Wot does our cause matter to you?" The man spat. "Let's just say that it's funding the war effort." A sneer split his face. The man had two golden teeth. "You'd leave now, if you knew what was good fer ya."

Shamus shook his head. "I already said no once. If you want me to leave that badly you'll have to force me. Or are you afraid you can't take me?"

The bald thug cracked his knuckles, grinning menacingly. "Your words, not mine, whelp," he laughed. A pokeball emerged from his pocket, and emerging from it was a dark, wolf-like pokemon with flowing, tangled fur and blood-red eyes. "Mightyena, this man needs a bit of convincin'," the thug said. Mightyena growled in response. "Now, be a good boy, and we won't have reason to rearrange that pretty little face o' yours."

Shamus watched this unfold with a satisfied smirk. "I think I can officially call this robbery now. This is your last warning; leave the kid alone or Perry and I will beat you silly," he said as he gestured towards his magmar, which engulfed its body in flames in preparation for battle.

The man smirked. "Mightyena, you know how to deal with fire-types, ain'tcha?" Mightyena snarled, and whirled around. It flung large slabs of sand at Sol, intending to dampen those flames.

(The statue wasn't there at her last visit. Did I not mention? Oops. Well, I'll update to show some Pokemon activity in the city.)

Fortree didn't seem quite devoid of life after all. A few Taillow flew out of the charred trees to the north and landed, twittering, on the iron statue outside the ruins of the Gym. A pile of ash quivered near the charred stump of a tree. The air was wavering near the door of the Pokemon Center. A large clump of foliage near the edge of Fortree Clearing seemed to be quivering, and looked devoid of the fire damage the rest of the city had taken.

The kindlier Team Aqua member, the one with the Armaldo, shrugged. "If you go to west to Oldale Town you'll find a gym. Take the bridge, or the route north if you don't want to pay a fee. Be careful if you go that way, though. There's been fighting lately on Route 110. As for the museum, who knows? The governor's a bit..." "You'd best not finish that thought if you want to keep your tongue," the Aqua member with the Crawdaunt warned, threateningly.

"No hard feelings, kid. We're only following the boss's orders," the shadier thug drawled. He almost lazily flicked a pokeball from his pocket. A teal pokemon with a large dark fin on its head, and orange spikes on its cheeks emerged. "Tomp!" it said, a dark look on its face.

Cal didn't miss a beat. "Sol, how 'bout giving them a taste of your speed. Avoid the sand with a Quick Attack!"

Sol sped through the slabs of sand that were hurled towards him by the huge Pokémon. However, due to the sand, he lost traction and was hit directly by one of the globs.

"Are you okay!? Need to keep an eye on your surroundings buddy. Always be aware" Cal's eyes were fixed on the thug's, he had no intention on letting him get away with his petty theft.

Absol had relaxed somewhat, due to seeing so many pokemon around. Not to mention most of them seeming happy. He began to wander around. "Huh. Is that new?" Stella pondered, looking at the statue. She wasn't really the observant one, so new or old held no difference.

Meanwhile, Absol inspected an untouched leaf pile. It seemed to be moving. It also wasn't burnt. Which was... Odd. "Come on Absol! We need to get going!" She called to the pokemon. He seemed to not hear her.

The Thug's eyes narrowed. "Mightyena, while he's down! Use Shadow Ball!" A large dark orb formed at the end of Mightyena's muzzle, and it shot at Sol with the force of a bullet.

"Marshtomp! Deflect it with Mirror Coat!" Marshtomp's body glowed, reflecting the environment, and it leapt right into the cloud of purple gas, which started to fly back towards its source. (If you look it up, you might find a hint as to another pokemon this guy has. Marshtomp doesn't normally learn mirror coat.)

A head poked out of the pile of foliage. A head with a beard made of Bananas. The Tropius didn't seem too upset about being disturbed, more curious. It stood up, and ruffled its wings. A Spinda that had been napping under them fell off of the Tropius in ill grace.

Absol stumbled back. It was... Surprised. How did he not see the humongous pokemon in the first place? Absol wasn't really intimidated, though. He stood his ground, though made no sound.

Hearing quite a bit of commotion, Stella looked behind her. "Wow." Was the only thing she was really capable of saying. Oddish looked about ready to attack. Though, since it was not asked, she remained still. While Swablu flew up to the Tropius casually. Clearly knowing it had an advantage if it attacked.

Cal knew evading wasn't an option, his only viable option was to try and counter the shadow ball.

"Sol! Use your Flame Wheel to try and stop that Shadow Ball!

"Quil!" Sol's blaze went full throttle as he shot a wheel of fire directly at the oncoming attack. The collision of the two attacks caused an explosion obstructing all vision.

"I've got to get on the offensive side here. Sol isn't really that good on the defensive, all he has is his speed. I just hope that it's enough..." Cal thought to himself, trying to figure out as to how he can turn the tides.

"You don't know?" The Trick Master looked surprised. "I guess Unovites have other things to worry about." He twirled again, then launched into a brief history. "Teams Magma and Aqua used to be the two villainous teams here, much like your Team Plasma. They were dedicated to reshaping Hoenn to their will, literally, with the use of legendary Pokemon. They managed to sieze control of Groudon and Kyogre, respectively, and simultaneously, and Hoenn was almost destroyed in the mighty battle they waged afterward for dominance." The Trick Master twirled again, wringing his hands incessantly. "But then a Hero emerged, and foiled both teams. The Mighty Beast of the Air, Rayquaza, thwarted those of the Sea and the Earth, and sent them fleeing back to their ancient dwellings, to never bother Hoenn again. The Hero, with Rayquaza by his side, went on to take the seat of the Champion in Ever Grande City. But Team Aqua and Team Magma perservered, and undermined the new Champion's efforts. Eventually, they grew strong enough to overthrow him once again, now that Rayquaza had returned to his ancient dwelling as well, to return the balance to nature. And now, Hoenn stands divided, as Aqua and Magma became the major powers of the region, forcing Gym Leaders and Cities to swear servitude. And the Civil War is tearing Hoenn apart." The Trick Master gestured at the bridge. "And you happen to be standing yards away from the front line, my friend. Fighting between Aqua's Slateport and Magma's Mauville has been heavy, dirty, and underhanded. Neither team has the upper edge, but both once great cities have been made little due to the fighting. But even they don't compare to the atrocities at Fortree and Petalburg..." He spun around. "And at the Trick House..."

"And I thought Plasma was bad." Miles said in response to the Trick Master. "I mean one evil organization was bad enough. I had no idea Hoenn had to deal with two." Miles suddenly started to realize what the vision he saw earlier meant and he didn't like the conclusion he was coming to. "So you said a "Hero" stopped Magma and Aqua the first time, why can't he do it again? Surely a bunch of mooks are no mach for the champion of an entire region."

(It was sleeping. You only saw the foliage.)

Swablu bounced off of Tropius's head, and Tropius merely gazed at the little puff bird stonily. The Spinda who had been napping under Tropius's leaves, however, wobbled over towards it, lifting a pair of knobbly little fists.

((OOC: That was a lot of work for something I probably would have found out pretty soon anyway. It's Corsola, right?))

Shamus tried to react quickly. "Perry! Charge through the smog and crush it!" Perry ran forward, trying to hold it's breath as it ran through the smog, and leapt toward its opponent in an attempted body slam.

((Lol.))

Marshtomp couldn't see the Pokemon coming, the smog was too thick. Worried, the trainer shouted, "Quick, aim a Mud Shot at the center of the smog!" And Marshtomp obliged, hitting the smog dead in the center, where it thought it detected a shadow.

Cal knew evading wasn't an option, his only viable option was to try and counter the shadow ball.

"Mightyena! Hit it with a bite attack!" Mightyena lunged out of the smoke from the resulting explosion, teeth shining brightly and maliciously as it lunged for Quilava's neck.

"And I thought Plasma was bad." Miles said in response to the Trick Master. "I mean one evil organization was bad enough. I had no idea Hoenn had to deal with two." The Trick Master whirled again, wringing his hands. "I'm not sure, to tell you the truth. One could guess that Champion Brendan was only able to defeat Team Aqua and Magma with the power Rayquaza provided, and many actually believe that. I don't believe that, though. Brendan defeated the trainers in my Trick House too many times, wriggled his way through all my puzzles too many times for it to be sheer luck. He's a powerful Pokemon Master in his own right. No, I think that Aqua and Magma used powerful legendary Pokemon to defeat Brendan. Which ones, though, I can't be sure. Most of it is just old legends and fairy tales."

((Oh. Kay. Sorry, I always think Tropius are larger then they actually are...))

Oddish was still in a battle position. Trying to take down a Tropius may or may not be the best idea. But, both Oddish and Swablu would be great at such things. And catching it would be nice as she could use it to fly to Slateport. And if the Spinda was an issue, that would be no trouble. "Okay then. Oddish Sweet Scent!" Oddish, who had been ready in the first place, jumped out of Stella's arms and released the scent.

Swablu and Absol, who were completely unprepared for a battle, were hit with the scent themselves. Whether the Tropius and Spinda were was a different story, though.

((OOC: Obscuring its sight was the original point of using smog, so I'm counting that as a triumph.))

Given that Magmar was already in the air leaping towards Marshtomp, a mud shot in the center of the smog wasn't going to hit him. He soared over the stream of mud and came crashing down towards Marshtomp.

A few flames were flickering inside the dark cave, moving along as if it was a ghost... Well, it WAS a ghost...

A Shuppet seemed to leading a male and another Pokemon through the blackened Granite Cave, using its Will-o-Wisp move to illuminate the area. Alongside this male was a Kirlia, who looked a bit scared...

"Come on, Kirlia.", the male, properly named Trevor, said. "Are you really that scared of this cave? Shuppet isn't scared, right, Shuppet?"

"Pet!"

With his flame a-blazing , Sol let out a concentrated billow of smoke right into Mightyena's face.

Cal could tell Sol was hesitant about facing this menacing Pokémon, but his fighting spirit was strong and wouldn't give up until all was exhausted. It's all about waiting for that perfect counter-attack, he was just hoping it was would be soon.

"Well what happened to Rayquaza? How did this Brendan guy summon it in the first place?" Miles asked. He was very interested now as he felt the vision was coming together. He knew who the man he saw was and Miles now knew what the man meant. But if Miles was right he would need the power of a legendary Pokemon such as Rayquaza.

((Holy shit I'm actually late to the party at once. Excuse me while I compose myself. *cracks his knuckles* Hope there aren't any qualms about him owning his own boat. It could cause some fun shenanigans later on.))

Skylar sighed in contentment, breathing in the fresh, salty ocean air as the vessel he commandeered cut through the water like a knife. Living close to Olivine City had its benefits, especially when you knew people and could keep a personal vessel docked at the port, as long as you had the documentation. He glanced at the badging on the instrument panel of the silver and blue vessel, proclaiming it 'The Dashing Frost,' grinning to himself. To his right sat a pink, cat-like creature, the single gunmetal gray earring in its left ear glinting in the afternoon sun. "What do you think, Sunset? Not a bad day to be out for a ride, hm?" The creature turned to him with sincere eyes, turning swiftly back to the bow of the ship. Clearly his Pokemon was more focused on keeping his ship on the right course and making sure that its owner safely made it to Slateport City.

To date, this will be his first trip to Hoenn, and Skylar was looking forward to the exploration and new Pokemon he would meet. To be more specific, he was looking forward to catching a Sharpedo, a type of Water Pokemon that the locals in Olivine City had recommended for its fast water speed and agility. It was really a shame that it wasn't an Ice type, which Skylar preferred, but beggars couldn't be choosers. A gray shape was beginning to appear on the horizon as the speedboat sped along, looming closer with every minute that passed.

The two arrived at the looming gray dock of the city in under two hours, disembarking the Dashing Frost and emerging onto the dock itself. The boy made sure to grab his key from the engine before heading for the office on the far end, adjusting his bandana and shades. Skylar approached the small building, saluting the person at the desk. "Afternoon, sir. I'm here to register my vessel for my stay here in Hoenn." He held the registration papers in his hand just as he had back in Olivine, the Espeon sitting dutifully at his side, flicking its tail idly. "It's the Dashing Frost, at the end of dock number three."

((Roll with it, this could be hilarious.))

((Oh.

Spinda and Tropius both seemed to fall prey to the Sweet Scent.

Magmar landed on Marshtomp with a loud bang.  Marshtomp toppled over backwards moments before ceasing its Mud Shot, and Magmar took a blast of mud to the chest before Marshtomp's blast ended as it fell flat on its back.

"Pet!"

There was a cracked rock quivering in a corner. Something could be heard walking around in the dark behind Trevor. There was a flapping coming from up on a ledge to Trevor's right, and a shuffling in the dirt to his left.

There was a light visible at the end of the cave farthest from the entrance, but at least one of these obstacles has to be met before you can approach it.

"Quick! Aim a smokescreen directly at Mightyena!

THe Mightyena coughed, stumbling and recoiling from the blast of putrid smoke it had just taken to the face. "Mightyena!" the thug cried. "Use Sand-Attack!" And as close as Mightyena was, despite the fact it was blinded, it would be hard-pressed to miss blocking the source of that smoke.

"Rayquaza returned to its roost, of ancient times, on the Sky Pillar far out to sea. It's cut itself off from the rest of the world to maintain the equilibrium of nature, now, just as it forced Kyogre and Groudon to do. As to how Brendan summoned it... I wouldn't know. You'd have to ask him. Not that anyone has seen him since the war started." The Trick Master twirled to look at the bridge. "It sounds like the fighting is pushing this way. I'd get out of the way if I were you."

The man at the desk, wearing a blue bandana and looking rather bored, scribbled something on a few sheets of paper, and said, "You are now cleared to dock in all Aqua-held ports. If you're heading inland, I'd avoid Route 110. There's been fighting in the vicinity." He sighed, and went back to doodling whatever it was he'd been doodling.

Trevor stopped in his tracks, turning a bit before he could see the light off in the distance. He could already feel that there was something unusual about this... "Shuppet. Shoot out your Will-o-Wisps over to the sides of me... And to the back of me as well. Kirlia, be prepared for anything..."

Shuppet let out an agreeable cry, and three of the flames that surrounded her had spread out towards Trevor. The flames also grew in size as well. Kirlia, who had been wary of her surroundings as well, performed an about face and was ready to guard Trevor at any time.

They were ready for such an attack this time. Cal decided it was time to employ some strategy into the mix before Mightyena overpowered Sol again.

"Sol, use quick attack to run around Mightyena!

Sol began to almost dance around the Mightyena, making it a real hard shot.

"Now! Use your smokescreen to cover your path!"

As Quilava continued to speed around Mightyena, he was letting out trails of smoke. These trails soon became larger, and larger, creating a nice veil to hide away Sol.

"Kay!" Octavia piped as she and Riolu walked off, leaving the grunt in his wake, as Leafeon and Luxio were closely following. "So, let's start off at...um...how about we go to the upper routes?"

Riolu nodded as the quartet headed toward Route 110. Riolu kept on humming Team Magma's theme as he walked. He had read that Magma settlements were ahead, and he might talk Magma into beating up Aqua for him.

(Quote only the portion applicable to you, plz.)

Directly behind the small group, a Makuhita shielded its eyes. A swarm of Zubat directly above seemed startled by the sudden light from the flames, and began flying around, battering the group. A Nosepass could be seen spinning nearby.

Mightyena tried to keep its eyes focused on Quilava, but it was circling too fast, and Mightyena became dizzy. However, it heard its trainer's orders, and, looking straight down, jumped and shot a shadow ball at the ground. The resulting blast blew the smokescreen away.

The route was mostly abandoned. There was a trainer talking to a balding, portly man outside a ruined house, and the bridge had collapsed, making passage to Mauville difficult. The sounds of fighting were really quite close.
